• Game engines that were a waste of time

As for people bashing the Unreal Engines, they are actually pretty decent. There was one game that just never should have met the Unreal Engine, and that was Tribes. When they made the last Tribes game, Tribes Vengeance, they used UE for it and IT WAS TOTAL BAWLS. Tribes never should have been put on the UE... As for engines I don't like, the one used for Doom 3 was quite awful. Terrible optimization. It's no surprise it didn't recieve much community support, it sucked ass and didn't deliver on many of the promises that were made.
UE was okay for UT games. It's not okay for like 30 shit games made by devs who couldn't be bothered making an engine for their own series of games. Instead we take the UE smack it into our generic shooter game. Now don't get me wrong. The UE engine is fantastic for shooter games like Gears of War,but for the love of god, every game that uses this engine has the same stupid characteristics over it. I NEVER rate a game that uses a premade engine for their games over 4 out of 10.
What? You know that most Unreal games are incredibly difficult to tell apart right? Almost no other engine is that modifiable. Splinter-Cell, Mirror's Edge, Rainbow Six, Deus Ex, X-COM: Enforcer, Red Orchestra, SWAT 4, Army of Two, BioShock. I bet you you didn't even know a lot of these games were Unreal Engine, and they are very much different across the board.
^That. Just because some lazy developers just use the GoW cover system and the default palette doesn't mean that's the only thing it's capable of. I'd say it's a great engine overall in just about every aspect.
Unreal engine. All of them.
Dude, the 2k4 and UT3 engines are great. Tonnes of games have been used on them, and some of the best mods I've played came from them.
Trespasser's engine.
That's no excuse for Bethesda. They have plenty of money yet they just re-used Oblivion's crappy engine on Fallout 3. I'm sure if they made an engine that actually feels like an FPS engine they would have been way more successfull with their game, instead they used some chunky, outdated and annoying engine and screwed it all up.
it's not a FPS to start with, it's supposed to be a FPRPG with melee weapons and coincidentially featured "guns" and if you actually used VATS, wich is there for a reason (bettering your chances of hitting a target according to the games rules) you'd stop treating it like Call of Duty Radroach edition!? nad good point, gamebryo does indeed suck, alot! and it is chunky, alot! and too outdated! but when i play the game i don't really give a flying, gravity defying fuck about it since it is very immersive, and i have secret fantasies of killing Moira and putting her head and ass on a spike at the Bomb! [editline]10:13PM[/editline] scratch that, i actually want to feed it to tenpenny
CryEngine 3. Making games look worse is advancing an engine, when you already have the most graphically advanced engine in gaming?
If you were at least able to see you could see the "XBOX 360" and "PS3" at the corner. And worst of all, people are agreeing with him.
Bethsoft's Gamebryo.
How about "The Last Remnant" or MMO "Aion" ?
Aion uses cryengine 1. [editline]05:19AM[/editline]
If you were at least able to see you could see the "XBOX 360" and "PS3" at the corner.
If you were at least able to see you could see the "XBOX 360" and "PS3" at the corner. And worst of all, people are agreeing with him.
Consoles are bad for gaming in general. That engine goes to prove it, "DLC" (aka bull SHIT) goes to prove it, console ports prove it, and strings of rapid sequels prove it. The engine is a step backwards, and the only reason for making that step is to sell Crysis and Warhead on the $moos (cash cows)
yeah it's horrid. I recently started playing oblivion and i noticed that oblivion has better lightning/shadows than fallout 3. There is no self-shadowing in fallout 3 for example and you can't have aa and hdr at the same time, engine limit or some shit.
ಠ_ಠ
Gamebryo. Why Bethesda? WHY?!
ಠ_ಠ
Oblivion does have much better shadows. As the length increased they differed cool. And the self shadows looked nice except in conversation.
Gamebryo for fallout 3, Really bethseda? even though for oblivion it was alright, you really screwed a whole lot of the engine up for fallout, I mean... Self shadows? GIVE ME! Seriously, big mistake for fallout 3. but for civ 4... fuck yeah.
No you can have HDR in Oblivion as well, Geforce 8 or higher does it perfectly.
My 2 4850's won't let me turn both options on at the same time officially. I had to force-enable AA in the control panel. [editline]06:25AM[/editline]
I have played neither of them so I won't comment on how well they have modified the UE to fit in a RPG universe. But I hope for their own sake that they have.
Hey idiot. Guess what engine Mirror's Edge uses?
Some engines used by Ubisoft. Seriously, give us fucking mod support for Assassin's Creed or Far Cry 2. And Unreal 3 is a great engine, it's the artists that really decide how the game looks, not the engine. And CryEngine 3 is a more optimized CryEngine 2... what is not to like?
Source Engine will Evolve, they won't replace it, because Half Life 2 still has some bit of John Carmack's Quake engine in it. Quake Evolved into GoldSrc, which evolved into Source, and that has been modified heavily over the years to what we now know as the Left 4 Dead version of Source.
Plus, the compatibility between engine versions is a priceless asset. [editline]06:30AM[/editline]
the only engine i can say that failed is Gamebryo seriously Bethsoft, that's the best you could do?
The fucking animations suck ass, Try walking diagonally in Fallout 3. Just fucking try it.
The fucking animations suck ass, Try walking diagonally in Fallout 3. Just fucking try it.
LOL. I never even attempted such a feat.
18 WoS' Prism3D engine... no. Just no.
TO ANYBODY WHO SAYS THAT SOURCE IS A WASTE OF TIME: there are 32 Source Engine commercial games out there, and Valve only has about 15 games made in Source.
Aion uses cryengine 1. [editline]05:19AM[/editline] Also your second video looks like nothing CryEngine2 can dish out at full.
That is Cryengine3 on CONSOLES.
Consoles are bad for gaming in general. That engine goes to prove it, "DLC" (aka bull SHIT) goes to prove it, console ports prove it, and strings of rapid sequels prove it. [editline]07:54AM[/editline]
OH FUCK, YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND CryEngine 3 is CryEngine 2 with deffered lightning and console support. Why is that bad?
Because 2 was bad and console support made 3 even worse? [editline]07:56AM[/editline]
My 2 4850's won't let me turn both options on at the same time officially. [editline]07:56AM[/editline]
And Unreal 3 is a great engine, it's the artists that really decide how the game looks, not the engine.
Agree
That is Cryengine3 on CONSOLES.
I never said it didn't look good on the non-console version. What I did say, however, is that Cry2 looks way better than the one in his video (Which was a console version). I didn't say Cry2 was better than Cry3, I just said that Cry2 is better than the version of Cry3 in that video.
i heard that from some places others i heard that any traces of the original quake engine had been rewritten or something
I found it: [cpp] //Deprecated Quake 2 code return 0; } [/cpp] So there we are, there is some iD Tech 2 in the Source Engine!
The Renderware engine Used for so many shit games (excluding the early 3d GTAs)
Unreal engine is really great and looks today outdated but I love it and also Source Engine is kickass, totally moddable and stable and optimized, :buddy: Can't stand people bitching it.
Too bad that UE looks the same with everything even with games that don't consist of grey and brown bloom.
Pokemon Red engine.
