I sometimes had crashes in smod that forced me to put my pc to sleep mode and back up so I can end hl2.exe
I've had nothing but problems with Source games crashing in Windows XP, because then it refuses to move to the desktop so I can end it. Windows Vista and 7 makes it easier because it forces it to go the the options menu on ctrl-alt-del, but then Garry's Mod crashes every single time I exit it. @ Colin: you forgot Iji :v:

GTA4's engine. Lags like an absolute motherfucker, even on consoles.
GTA4's engine. Lags like an absolute motherfucker, even on consoles.
Table Tennis was laggy? GTA IV's lag is based on how much it's rendering, which is a hell of a lot.
Tetris engine.
Table Tennis was laggy? GTA IV's lag is based on how much it's rendering, which is a hell of a lot.
What? No.. It's based on many factors.
I sometimes had crashes in smod that forced me to put my pc to sleep mode and back up so I can end hl2.exe
Essentially this. [editline]01:14AM[/editline]
No Source crash prevents you from seeing a taskbar if you do CTRL-ALT-DELETE. Even pressing on Alt Tab or the Windows button always works for me.
Yes because there is absolutely no variation in PC's, what works for you must work for me right.
That's no excuse for Bethesda. They have plenty of money yet they just re-used Oblivion's crappy engine on Fallout 3. I'm sure if they made an engine that actually feels like an FPS engine they would have been way more successfull with their game, instead they used some chunky, outdated and annoying engine and screwed it all up.
And then Fallout 3 would probably be this holiday? Do you know how long it takes to develop a new engine?
And then Fallout 3 would probably be this holiday? Do you know how long it takes to develop a new engine?
They could have at least used an engine that was less shitty like UE3 (which probably would have boosted development speed, too), CryEngine, or something else. Gamebryo is shit. It isn't optimized, it crashes and freezes all the time, and is hard to work with.
Frostbyte or whatever for Bad Company. Took those bastards how long again? 6 years? Something like that anyway. Then a year goes by and the third Red Faction comes out with buildings you can actually destroy. [editline]08:22PM[/editline]
It's not, if I'm honest. Yes, flexible in the way that the visuals have been improved over the years but not at all versatile in what can be done with it and what games it has brought us. Comparing it to a "hard-working" engine such as UE-series and you can see it's very held back. Don't get me wrong, it does what it's supposed to (albeit usually with some duct tape and bubble gum). But it only does what it's supposed to.
This, source is overrated. Most older HL2 mods these days find themselves strangled by the limitations of the engine. A solution could be to shrink the player scale but that would require a lot of work. I believe the Empires Mod team has done it though for their aircraft maps.
What the fuck are you talking about. I use windowed mode on everything I can, such as in Garry's Mod. So if it crashes, I don't have to restart my PC.
I crash constantly in fullscreen and never have to restart my PC. I seriously think you are doing something wrong.

Source is starting to seriously show it's age, it has huge limitations on many aspects of its engine, and when you compare it to any new engine, it just looks clunky and slow. The only reason it's worked so well so far is because Valve are amazing developers who support and document their engine extensively, but there's only so much duct tape fixes here and there can do.
What's that? I can't hear you over the sound of these awesome Game Maker games.
For every good gamemaker game there are 10,000 bad ones.
For every good gamemaker game there are 10,000 bad ones.
No one is making you play them.
Hey Suicide Requiem, is this argument leaving you in despair?
Red Faction Guerilla's engine. Well, you can destroy stuff......sure can..........yep.....
I crash constantly in fullscreen and never have to restart my PC. I seriously think you are doing something wrong.
I only get it in Source based games. When I say restart, I mean put it in sleep mode and bring it out.
The Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing engine.
The Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing engine.
If it even has a real one.
Whatever engine oblivion and FO 3 use. Don't get me wrong, it looks nice and stuff, but the physics are wonky and it crashes from time to time.
What's that? I can't hear you over the sound of these awesome Game Maker games.
You forgot The Scribble Ninja 1 and 2 and STEALTH!
Hey Suicide Requiem, is this argument leaving you in despair?
I'M IN DESPAIR, THIS WORLD PUTS ME INTO THE DEPTHS OF DESPAIR! At least someone on FP have a good sense of humor. :P
Souce and UE3 have the same problem: all the ames look the same.
Souce and UE3 have the same problem: all the ames look the same.
*cough* Half-Life 2 , Dark Messiah , Zeno Clash *cough* *cough* Unreal Tournament 3 , Mirrir's Edge *cough* Think first, then post.
How games look is not up to engine, it is up to game maker.
Souce and UE3 have the same problem: all the ames look the same.
Their graphics look the same even if it's not the same colour scheme you can tell a source and a UE game.
Yeah, they need to get a new engine. Sadly, I think they're going to use it for Fallout: New Vegas.
New Vegas ain't Bethesda, it's Obsidian which leads me to think that it could be a top down Never Winter Nights style point and click, or possible Knights of the Old Republic/Mass Effect third person. But this is just guesswork, don't quote me on this.
The Buckets of Blood engine. All that work for 10 minutes gameplay, one single fucking level.
How games look is not up to engine, it is up to game maker.
They are limited by the engine, and often certain engines have a certain feel to them, but I mostly agree with you.
They are limited by the engine, and often certain engines have a certain feel to them, but I mostly agree with you.
When you have access to the engine source code, you can change anything about it, the feel of the engine is irrelevant.
