you should be able to assume direct control of your champion.
if i must tear you apart, goblin, i will
The assuming control aspect of Arena mode would be pretty awesome in Fortress mode.

Like Dungeon Keeper (II? Don't know if you could do that in the first one).
Regarding molten rock : You can dig through it by simply channeling it.

this fucker has been fighting my forgotten beast for like, 15 minutes straight, he has not a single body part not injured..
maybe you shouldn't have recruited a dwarf that was "belarded by great hanging sacks of fat"
Edit:
I haven't had any immigrants after my last wave for quite a long time. My fortress has 22 dwarves, and the population is rising very slowly from fortress children. No dwarven caravans have arrived. I fear for the fate of the Mountainhomes.
okay... I'm really going to make genuine effort to play this today... what do yuo reckon a realistic goal would be, today?
I like the new version. Confused in military screen, can't get my goddamn fighting guy to get in soldier mode.
Added the military guide to the OP.
Also, I now have three forgotten beasts in the caverns below my fort, a giant poisonous spider, a quadruped made of slate with noxious emissions, and a flying filth monster.
The spider one has killed numerous olm men/women blowgunners and wrestler, and has yellow damage to most of its legs/abdomen + cephelothorax.

The military screen befuddles me as well.
So far I've got two people in a squad, don't know hot to activate them.
Also:
Morul Nishuthir, manager, cancels Construct silk bag: need 10000 silk cloth.
Also I just had my first siege...
ROFL MILITARY IS A JOKE
5 macedwarfs, 4 axedwarfs, 4 crossbowdwarfs, didn't do SHIT to 7 goblins that attacked me. Not even a scratch. Not even mentioning that my dwarfs refuse to use ranged weapons... fucking lame... not playing this until some fix.
Disappointed.
Marksdwarves are broken fyi.
Also, what armor did your guys have. The goblins' copper weapons should barely penetrate iron.

Yes it's not a bug, the new system makes silk cloth have "fuel" so that it doesn't all run out in one craft or so. So if for example a cloth has 15,000 fuel (not sure but for example) it takes that 10,000 from it, leaving 5,000 for other purposes.

That's... all wolf blood...
At first it was near the stairs to the lower stockpiles so I thought a wolf came in and my hunter killed it. But ever since then the blood has been growing, going through the doors into the dining hall and even up the stairs.
I have a bleeding wolf ghost in my fortress. :ohdear:
[editline]07:50AM[/editline]
Or my dwarves are spreading it around by their shoes.
I remember a few years ago when I was like, "I can't wait for this army arc so that the fortress mode has a greater purpose." Maybe in another few years...

:v:
A giant toad came up from the underground caverns, toppled my statues, killed one wrestler, ripped another wrestler's ear off and injured a war dog. My militia commander punched it to death.
I should probbaly get some sort of armor/weapons for my military rather than just silk clothes...
I just found out animals have status pages with descriptions.
Apparently the two cats I have are enormous and gigantic.
Has anyone managed to get plaster into hospitals yet?

Bronze... already found out that bronze is almost adamantite in this version.
I just discovered a cavern... in adventure mode :ohdear:
[editline]03:18PM[/editline]
oh shit giant cave spider webs
im getting the fuck outta here fuck this quest
Maybe some of the values for bronze are messed - could be why bronze colossi are nigh invincible.
My woodworker is a maniac. A raccoon stole a stone ring (he's stonecrafter as well), so he starts throwing tantrums, goes into the other carpenters bedroom, slashes his head off and promptly goes into a macabre mood. He is now at my masons shop and is waiting for the carpenter to decompose.
Fucking raccoons.

My woodworker has been sitting in this one dwarf's room watching him sleep.
He worships a death god.

So you have one sheet of cloth it will be made of say 15,000 pieces called "fuel" and they use 10,000 "fuel with 5,000 left but you still have one sheet of cloth left?
How does it show up if look at it using the k key?

Yeah it's probably your dwarfs spreading it around. Your hunter washed himself near the river, then bunch of dwarfs walked back and forth from it.
I must say that my favorite way to play so far is 800x600 windowed.
I've found the easiest way to make an entire generation of supersoldiers (6+ Dwarves per "harvest") is to build mega-constructs with stone blocks.
For maximum effect, build their required workshops inside a mountainside with the stone you want to use.
For even more maximum effect, use engravers after they've engraved almost everything.
Somebody needs to make a guide for the 2010 version. I have no fucking idea about what to do.

My guide:
Wait for next update
do we have any idea when the next update is?
Is this free?
Is this free?
if you can't figure that out by yourself you shouldn't try to play this.
Is this free?
Yes, it is free.
do we have any idea when the next update is?
Probably at the end of the week, or at worst next week.
