You should try Minas Tirith next, I've always wanted to build something like that.
Edit:
I mean how epic isn't this

Now i want to make that
As a fortress.
is multi-core support even on toady's priority list cause it's lame that my fortress grinds to a halt when I hit 60 pop
I think multi-threading is one of the last things Toady is going to do for DF.

YES, You can construct mechanims out of metal!
Only game to complex for me to want o figure out.

Well, considering you can't even spell the word "too" I don't think that's surprising.
Hey, why doesne't maydays pack work like it did in 40d?
I mean, half of the stuff STILL show's up as letters.

Well, he hasn't merged the new version with the OpenGL stuff from the 40d# versions. Once he does that it should run better.
My dorf is standing in front of his kill tagged issued elf and he does nothing :saddowns:

Try this for boosting FPS:

Is there any tileset that properly works?
Is there a way to increase the size of your fortress after you embarked?
Is there a way to increase the size of your fortress after you embarked?
no
no
How about boatmurdered, their fortress got bigger.
How about boatmurdered, their fortress got bigger.
Dig more?
The playing area itself doesn't grow bigger. Map edges are always map edges.
Ahem, a tileset, or any graphical enchancment that works?
Guys I found out through an LP that the heavy a misc. item is, the stronger it becomes. I've been running around with a 5 ton dragon corpse smacking elves into space. This might not work in a future version because it seems that as long as you are wielding the corpse it does not slow you down.

That was in the 2d version.
Is it normal that DF2010 uses almost a gigabyte of RAM when saving?
[editline]02:56PM[/editline]
and loading?
[editline]02:57PM[/editline]
and during play in fortress mode?

yes. This ascii game uses processor power like nobody's business
The fact that you can't build a farm on a soil layer is also a bug.
Odd, as I can do that anyway and have been doing that.
I really want to start playing this, but I can't seem to make out what stuff is, so I'd like to start out with the 3D version. I downloaded the 3D version from the OP, but when I run the .exe, I'm pretty sure the 2D version starts. Is there something else I must do to get 3D like in those pictures which were posted earlier?
Also what do you suggest taking with you when you first embark?
You need a river, some lvl 4 hills (atleast), trees, moderate/warm temperature, right? what else should I look for?
Then once I've embarked, I choose to plan carefully.
Here's what I'd choose, but I need some help:
- 2 proficient miners.
- 1 proficient lumber jack.
- 1 proficient mason.
- 1 proficient carpenter.
- 2 proficient grovers, one of them is also a proficient brewer.
Then I get a long list of items, which is not in the 40 tutorials, I remove the items, and add these manually:
- 20 --- helmet seeds.
- 1 iron anvil.
- 1 shortsword. (forgot the material.)
- 20 ale, wine, rum and beer.
- 4 dogs and cats.
- 20 spider silk ropes.
- 1 sand (because that was what I had some points left for.)
- I might have missed something on the list, but what else should I bring? (I removed cloths and didn't have enough points to get some clothes with me again :v:)

Way too many ropes, you need more doctor supplies. Other than that, it looks good.
What would count as doctor supplies? I haven't played very much yet :S
Does cloths matter? Can't I just save some points and let my dwarves be nudists for now?
Thank you for your helpful reply :)
Your dwarves has clothes with them.
IIRC doctor supplies are:
Crutches (or however it is spelled)
Cloth (for bandages)
Splints
Buckets
and probably some more I can't remember.
Make a Hospital zone.
Press I , go over the zone, press Shift + H to see what is needed.

The game is a 3D game viewed in 2D. You see one Z-level at a time. Although there are 3D visualizers for the game, there's no real 3D interface (yet)
Is training bugged in the new version? I have a squad set to train, but no matter what I do only one of them will train. I have the month set it to 6 dwarf minimum, so all the dwarves in the squad should be training...
Dragons are way too easy, I killed one with no wounds with a talented swordsman/adept armor/shield user.
