I just realized that my fortress isn't near any other civilizations. The only traders I will ever get are Dwarven, and I will never be ambushed/sieged because there aren't any goblins. And I was doing so good, too. It'd be boring to continue.
Huh? Brooks are an infinite source.. they never run out.
Probably a bug then, I embarked with a brook and the pools ran dry in the summer. My civilization screen says that there's a reptille civilization how can i come in contact with it or talk to it?
Got a world where Goblins don't exist, and Elves, Humans, and Dwarves live in harmony.
Got a world where Goblins don't exist, and Elves, Humans, and Dwarves live in harmony.
Sounds boring, start a world war.
I'd make Mt. Doom in a heartbeat if it weren't for the problem that Active Volcanoes lack iron, flux, coal, and pretty much everything that makes those locations valuable.
Huh? Brooks are an infinite source.. they never run out.
Actually, brooks do dry up in hot biomes occasionally.
Except the dwarfs will win and are not controled by a fucking genius crazy man. (yes hitler was smart, just crazy.)
But I'm controlling the Dwarves :smug:
Nope, Giant Olms can exit the water and slaughter your fortress.
None of these die w/o water? ... They gonna get pissed off when that underground lake disappears as I made a hole in the bottom :F
Except the dwarfs will win and are not controled by a fucking genius crazy man. (yes hitler was smart, just crazy.)
No. No he wasn't. Hitler was a fucking idiot who had the common sense to keep a staff of smart people near him at all times. The only thing he had going for him was a good speaking ability and a country full of people willing to believe anything. :colbert: On a side note, I tried out the Xenomorph mode. Holy shit. :v: The only issue is that they don't have the ability to open doors. If you start out as one in adventure mode, you're pretty-much stuck inside the inn. :raise:

Is there any way to ensure a supply of running water near where I start? I keep making sure that my embarkation site contains a brook, river or stream but all there are on any z-level are murky pools.

(The brown squares which you can change the size of in the embark screen) It has to have at least one square over the water on the area map, not the region.

Just because you are not able to look through the wool over your eyes, through the media's blanket of retarded misinformation, you would be able to clearly see hitler was a briliant man.
Doing a large search for the most badass Volcano name I've ever seen.
Please don't continue the Hitler conversation in the Dwarf Fortress thread. Please.

Relax! Hitler wasn't smart, he was just goddamn lucky. It was sheer luck tha kept him from being assassinated in 1938, and he was barely able to hold 40% of election polls, despite silencing much of his opposition. His major contributions include letting some 10,000+ (I forget the exact number) Allied soldiers escape during the Battle of Dunkirk, fucking up the Battle of Britain, allying with Mussolini, and actually thinking he had a snowball's chance in hell in a war against Russia. He failed the entrance exam to an ART SCHOOL twice, and got lucky that he didn't serve life in prison for high treason during one of his early protests. He's like a guy who continually kicks your ass in Monopoly not because he has a good grasp of finances, but beecause he gets all of the good Chance cards and lands on Free Parking a lot. He's lucky. His Cabinet gets most of the credit for the shot that went well. :raise: [editline]08:12PM[/editline] Anyway, are there any other good creature mods for DF2010 besides the Xenomorphs?
I am in the process of making the Irkens from Invader Zim. But I am not finishing it until we get major bug fixes. Because this will be a pretty much full dwaven conversion.
A dwarven child went berserk and is now smashing his head against the wall or something, his head is dented and there is blood flowing everywhere. Well in the beginning of my fortress I found an underground cavern that had giant spider webs and water at the bottom. Well, getting all the silk and free water is fine but I'm scared to meet the giant spider...

If you fail at that, and the GCS gets into your fortress, well... Cry and scream, and don't feel ashamed while doing it, it's happened to all of us. [editline]11:08PM[/editline] Can someone here recommend the best resolution for the new version? 800x600 hurts the eyes and just doesn't look right, while the standard resolution, while better, is just a tad too small when things get hectic.
Is there any way to turn off the "digging designation canceled: blahblah stone" thing? Trying to mine a z-level above magma is really annoying. [editline]11:17PM[/editline] Yay, adamantine.
r Scroll to a combat log, press enter.
Call me stupid but I still can't find the combat logs. I press r but it brings up shit about buildings.
Uhh... are you on the newest version? :raise: A thief just ran off with an artifact, doesn't that cause the creator of said artifact to go insane? [editline]12:16AM[/editline] I now have giant tigers guarding the entrance to my fortress. :c00l:
Well this is interesting. I just started a new fortress. Randomly generated name: Rulefortress. The main part consists of a high-up dolomite plain (perfect for a megaproject) with a brook running through it, going to a waterfall, six levels high. The waterfall flows through the mountain biome, going through the forest biome just before leaving the map. There is a big canyon, and my fortress entrance is dug into the side, across a temporary floor bridge, about halfway up. In winter, the forest biome freezes first. This freezes the exit tiles for the brook, causing it to back up. Additionally, whenever it hits the forest biome, it freezes instantly, creating a temporary wall. This lets it back up even more, creating a narrow, very deep, and lopsided lake. The entrance to my fortress lies under this temporary lake. I didn't realize this, and had one of my miners digging out a farm and preparing to irrigate it. I had basic workshops and stockpiles on the dolomite plain, waiting for sufficient infrastructure to place them in the fortress. Suddenly my fortress starts flooding. Fortunately, my farm is above the entrance, to allow for easy irrigation. I have my miner dig his way onto the plain, while creating a burrow (named "Get The Fuck Up Here") to keep my dwarves from going down and getting in trouble. The entrance hall and deeper stairways of my fortress have some water in them, but not too much. Most of the way through winter, all the water freezes solid in an instant. I mine my way into the fortress, but keep the dwarves out until I can be sure what's going to happen. Spring hits. All the ice melts at once, except for the forest biome ice, which is still forming ice walls. The fortress starts flooding completely. I keep my dwarves on the plain. Eventually, the ice holding the lake in melts, and the water flows off the map, leaving an ordinary (now muddy) brook behind. I think for a moment of how to drain my fortress, and then dig next to the brook to the very close stairway. The fortress drains into the brook. I go back to the task of irrigating my farm. Current plans for Rulefortress: set up an automatic emergency drain system using pressure plates, grates, and floodgates; replace floor across chasm with either walled-in waterproof floor with doors, or (preferred method) a drawbridge attached to levers and pressure plates triggered by water. Build some sort of megaproject. Oh, and I assigned a soap maker immigrant to be my military commander. He named his squad The Fenced Balls. (I'll post images next winter.)
