New devlog
04/11/2010: Things are finally settling down. I got a chance to program a bit today, and I fixed another crash bug today (deleting hospital zones) and failed to reproduce a few more bugs, he he he. I'll be continuing on with that tomorrow. I also did some preliminary merge code yesterday. There are a few more things to check, but it looks like that should proceed without any weird surprises.
And an updated changelog! http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/mantisbt/changelog_page.php
Someone should post the log here because I don't want to sign up for mantis w/e
My miner got injured, and the doctor is giving her sutures, but no one will give her water. I have plenty of buckets, a brook, and murky pools if needed. Do I need a well to get her water?
Do you have a bucket?
Do you have a bucket?
I have some in the furniture stockpile. Do I need to have them in a specific place?

[5 issues]
Pretty much the same issue.
I have some in the furniture stockpile. Do I need to have them in a specific place?
In the older versions no, but I'm not too sure about the new version.
New devlog
Pfft. Still not playing it until pathfinding and military is fixed.
Pfft. Still not playing it until pathfinding and military is fixed.
Same, but more on the pathfinding than anything.
I have some in the furniture stockpile. Do I need to have them in a specific place?
Do you have a 'water source' zone designated?
Do you have a 'water source' zone designated?
I have the brook designated as a source, and I've seen the doctor use it to clean patients.
why are people having such difficulty with irrigation?

Wow, I was looking through legends when I found a battle that pitted an alliance of 183 elves, 53 humans and 3 goblins against an army of 1,183 attacking humans. The defenders, despite taking 54 losses while the attackers took 183, repelled them. I believe that this was the last goblin fortress left, so the entire human civ took it upon themselves to kill it. It still stands, though devoid of any goblins. The enslaved races have made it their own. [editline][/editline] More amazement. I looked through the entire war, and that wasn't the last goblin fortress; it's the second to last. Turns out that over a period of four years, that fortress was attacked five times by a human fortress dwindling from 1540 at the beginning to the 1183 at the end. While the elves defending it did take heavy losses, it was never taken.

I'll make up a back-up save, abandon my fortress, and check legends (then revert the save back, of course.)
I'm already in Legends, looking through it.
I'm already in Legends, looking through it.
Oh, I meant mine, you talking about Legends got me interested in my world's history.
Man I hate it when I embark and all my dwarfs and shit and in a 1x1 square.
All the God damn flux is in the top half of the mountain, and there aren't any ramps allowing me to get up there.
All the God damn flux is in the top half of the mountain, and there aren't any ramps allowing me to get up there.
Either build some or mine into the mountain and straight up?
Or, in a more abstract manner, build a straight-up staircase outside, a skybridge to the flux and mine it out.
, I was looking through my legends and found, "In 1044, the Duel of the Hydra Spun Massiveyelled the Hairy Pusses of Spittle and the human Lalgi Handledgroove occurred" I read it as "Hairy Pussies of Spittle" at first, and I lol'd hard when I re-read it. [editline]09:33PM[/editline] Since I'm perfectly agile, I'm chasing a bunch of Elk around a barren snow wasteland, and I'm chopping them up with my bronze great-axe one by one :v: I feel like a wolf, chasing down its' prey
Elves arrive at my site and the first thing they see is two dwarves, my militia commander and his buddy, running around with axes, following the order "Kill groundhog". Apparently "kill groundhog" means less "kill this specific groundhog" and more like "death to all groundhogs". Oh and the elves did see a civilian dwarf too. Carrying the left rear leg of a groundhog to butcher it. I love Dwarf Fortress.
No matter what I do I can't seem to get my military to train. :argh:

[editline]09:53PM[/editline]
No matter what I do I can't seem to get my military to train. :argh:
military's pretty fucked atm
Because of the nature of military at this time, I'm turning Invaders off in the Init file. Don't judge me, I'm doing it because I don't want my carefully designed fortress to fall due to to the inability to, I don't know, actually get soldiers? Be aware I'm not taking the "peace" that is caused by this to build up an unstoppable military of hideous proportions. Hell, I'm doing it because I frankly don't have any fucking idea HOW to form a military at this time, and the talks of how horrible the military system is now isn't helping. [editline]06:00PM[/editline]
Either build some or mine into the mountain and straight up?
I'll probably do this, then just carve a tunnel into the top of the mountain to the ground level, of course I'll remove the artificial ramps when I'm done though.
It's been 5 years and no invasions or sieges yet.

And does it take effect immediately or do you have to start a new fortress?
Does that stop ambushes as well? And does it take effect immediately or do you have to start a new fortress?
Ambushes count as Invaders, snatchers and thieves, however, do not count. I remember when I was working on my Pyramid in 40d, before I turned it off I'd get an ambush every 20 minutes and a siege almost every year. When I saved and exited DF to alter the init file (turning Invaders OFF) I never got attacked again.
...the talks of how horrible the military system is now isn't helping.
I love the new military system. I recommend you take a look at the wiki for learning it. It explains a lot of things clearly.
I haven't found a place that even has goblins nearby to attack me! They need to show up on the civilizations page, right?
