This thread is about SCARY experiences, not STARTLING ones. Anyways, mine has to be when I was playing F.E.A.R. 2 project origins, and you were in the elementary or something and I had not seen Alma in a long time. The music was putting pressure on me and I went into a public WC and there was this low wall that you could see over, but not completely. There was this big mirror that there are in those rooms. I could see Alma in the mirror staring a me, I prepare to shoot her but I look there and... Nothing. The music was making me feel all paranoid and I almost spinned there like some spinhacker. I went onwards and I were about to go crazy and I saw movement everywhere and was about to turn off the game because I could not take it. Then: Blue moving light. I instantly knew it was an enemy soldier and I shot him and his buddies all relaxed. I felt great.
Mine is crashing into another plane in deep fog with almost full volume. (I was practicing with failed instruments)
Resident Evil 4, Regenerator, i almost shitted my pants when i saw them.
Got charged by a Pseudogiant in STALKER. The part that was terrifying was it was heavy fog, I could hear feet stomping on the ground, I could see the screen shake, but I couldn't find it. I'll never forget that image, I was looking to the left, then to the right, the noise got louder, and I looked behind me and the damn thing was 5 feet away from me and closing fast.
Penumbra. I pretty much shit my pants that whole entire week.
I shit myself the first time I was pushed down the escalator in Condemned. I had cleared the entire area and thought I was safe. Oh god I was so wrong. I think that's the first scary game I enjoyed.
These stories are nice, thing that makes FEAR 2 so scary is the psychologigal fear when you have not seen Alma for ages
armed assault evolution heavy infantry combat between a platoon of opfor and eight of us; everyone except for the team leader and I died and we bounded back to an unoccupied village, took shelter and called in reinforcements while opfor tanks and infantry rolled in to hunt us down. we were there for about 10 minutes until one of them spotted us and a thirty minute gunfight ensued. we were already low on ammo so we had to take really careful shots and it was hard to hold off the infantry. what made it worse were the tanks. egugghh anyway, nothing dramatic happened like last-minute saves from a black hawk that rolled down and dropped off twelve guys or anything like that. we just got shot to oblivion [editline]03:02PM[/editline] anyway i pretty much pooped my pants the entire time we were running from bullets
I shit myself all the way through the resident evil 5 campaign.

And how they react if you take a picture OH GOD I'M SEEING IT IN MY HEAD NOW JESUS CHRIST :byodood:
I shit myself all the way through the resident evil 5 campaign.
Why would you be scared of an action game?
I always start off scared by the atmosphere of games like Penumbra and Condemned, and then after around 10 minutes it they aren't scary anymore.
Thief 3. Shalebridge Cradle. 'Nuff said.
Thief 3. Shalebridge Cradle. 'Nuff said.
yes.
Being stalked by an admin and his buddies in a DarkRP server using rp_downtownv2. Practically, the only safe place is in the sewers, and you'll be living in constant paranoia.
Thief 3. Shalebridge Cradle. 'Nuff said.
I've never played Theif 3, I always here people say that "The Cradle level" is one of the scariest things ever. What exactly is so scary about that level? Shit I thought this was the more active thread. Sorry for the 3 hour bump.
Ghosts

It's an asylum full of undead patients that will fucking kill you dead. They're almost impossible to hide from. :ohdear:

Only scary game I've ever played were the Penumbra series, pretty much the whole atmosphere was scary for me, especially the dog man part with holes in the walls, I couldn't push my self to go through the hallway for a while. Fear, Doom, etc.. not much.
Penumbra is a free game isn't it? I want to try it :D
There is a demo for it, I've never personally played or seen it, but from what I've heard it's as scary as the actual game.
Resident Evil 4, Regenerator, i almost shitted my pants when i saw them.
I never got past that bit on RE4, I had very little ammo, and ended up wasting it all, kept dying due to no ammo.
And the first half of the level is just an incredibly scary atmosphere, with whispers, wind, and those goddamn footsteps from upstairs.
What's worse is when you have no idea where you're supposed to go so you start to get lost in the place.

what does this have anything to do with anything
The very first time i played 'We dont go to Ravenholm' and 'Lowlife'

Although not a game. It was really damn creepy.
One of the scariest ones was probably the hospital level in Afraid of Monsters: DC
I was playing some lego game and I had to go underwater for something and the eels scared my shitless.
