• Limited Magazines vs Limited Bullets

The SWAT 4 system where if you reload with ammo still in the magazine, it gets saved for later. Every time you reload, you switch to the next fullest magazine, cycling through this process every time you reload. Games where reloading with a magazine partially empty means you lose the magazine itself irritates me, because it'd be stupid to throw away ammo like that. As gman003-main said - it depends on the game.

I'm a compulsive reloader and I despise realism. The one exception I will make is realistic singleplayer games, when done right those can be fun.
Killing Floor has magazine reloading, doesn't it? I like that.
I also am a fan of the magazine carryover system, where when you use up lets say 10 rounds in a magazine and you reload, you'll eventually cycle back to that 10 round magazine.
I hate magazine reloading. Especially in SWAT 4. (Although you don't lose the entire thing, but still) SWAT 4 isn't even that realistic. I can understand it in a realistic game like ArmA 2 - but not SWAT. People instantly die from one 9mm round to the foot in that, there aren't even ironsights. Magazine reloading should be only in realistic simulator games. It's just annoying anywhere else.
Here's how I see it. You waste half a clip, reload, you keep that clip on your belt. Its not a full load, but its there. That's how it actually works in reality, you use half, change clips, you don't just drop half a clip of potentially life saving ammunition, you keep it handy. But with something like a revolver, it's even easier. You just take out the bullets you haven't used. OR PUT NEW ONES INTO the slot's you've fired.
KF has ammo count turned into mags and that works pretty well.
Arma 2 uses a mag system, but if I remember right ACE mod lets you combine magazines when you push a button (though it does take a little bit of time to do this)
Killing Floor has magazine reloading, doesn't it? I like that.
No, it just looks like it does. If you have enough bullets to make 15 full 9mm mags, it will show 15 mags, even though when you reload it it will only take the bullets it needs. (aka fire 10 rounds, it shows 14 mags, fire one round, still shows 14 mags)
The Darkness used guns for ammo. Jackie just threw the guns he had in his hands away and pulled out 2 more.
Didn't he reload if the next gun he had was the same as the one he'd just used? Either way it was a cool touch.
Killing Floor has magazine reloading, doesn't it? I like that.
It shows your ammo in the form of magazines, but you don't throw away mid filled mags. So instead of showing like 50 rounds. It would show maybe 10 mags if each had 5 rounds.
That was only with the pistols, not the other guns

Didn't he reload if the next gun he had was the same as the one he'd just used? Either way it was a cool touch.
Nope, the only guns he reloaded were the pistols his uncle gave him and the Darkness guns, though they didn't reload so much as recharge. Every other gun got tossed when you ran out of ammo or hit the reload key.
I prefer magazine reload, because when the bullets carry over I just reload all the time without knowing.
Right. But all your mostly-spent magazines don't magically marge together into one either. A game with limited ammo and limited magazines, where the number of bullets in a reloaded magazine is remembered, the partially used ones are then cycled in the order they were removed, leaving the player with about 4 or 5 magazines with say, 4 bullets each if they don't reload often. Most realistic way of portraying it.
Firearms source does this. Also the chambered bullet stays when you reload a new magazine.
Alien swarm had a magazine system. I prefer magazines because it prevents me from reloading every 2 seconds with weapons other then shotguns. Something that was always suppose to be a benefit of a shotgun was that you didn't need a magazine, made it ideal for a tight situation. Nowadays everyone reloads all the time and sprays ammo everywhere.
Killing Floor has magazine reloading, doesn't it? I like that.
Thats different, the magazines it shows is the rounded number of bullets you have. ah fucking late. Anyway, I hate it when you have limited magazines because, like most FPS players, I reload after killing someone.
Depends on the game
just add a button to transfer ammo between clips. he sits down for like 5 seconds and sorts it out, sure it's boring to sit around but it's a realistic game.
Considering how I reload whenever I finish shooting, limited bullets.
Depends on the game, but I do love realistic games. I love Red Orchestra's style of reloading. Especially since I can walk to the objectives while reloading over and over to admire the sexy reloading animations.
The magazine system was used forever ago in Rainbow Six 3. Magazines that had bullets left over in them would be put back in circulation according to how many bullets are them. So if you have a magazine with 15 shots and reload, then have one with 17 shots and reload, after you cycle through all of your fresh magazines, the one with 17 bullets would be loaded first.
I like Red Orchestras system, where you keep your magazines, and it doesn't tell you the ammo count, only the weight of the mag. When the mag is empty, you'd throw it out, otherwise, you'd just cycle it for another mag.
The magazine system was used forever ago in Rainbow Six 3.
