I just want to throw something into the discussion, because people still think of BioWare as a company. It's not, they lost their independence in 2007 when EA fully acquired them. They remain their own branding because the name is well known, but they are not independent at all. Everything they do is because EA wills it.

No its not important. Its side story, the focus of the game is to stop the Reapers, not save this guys ass even if he should be dead. The Protheans were very important in the beginning, now they aren't so much. They're history.
It's important to know about the lore of the Protheans. Such as maybe an explanation to what happened 50.000 years ago. It's a major plot event for the people that care about the lore.

We know what happened 50,000 years ago. The Reapers came and fucked the Protheans up. Whats he going to tell you? We were unprepared? For all we know he was a fucking garbage collector and they just froze him to try and save their race. He could know absolutely nothing other than that they got utterly raped by the Reapers.

And yes we know reapers fucked shit up but not specifics on what happened which could be interesting to know such as if they had a chance, if it was a long war between almost equal opponents, if the protheans are connected to the reapers in any other way and so forth. Now things like this might be in the main game and not the DLC but if they decide to put everything about the prothean in the DLC and not just the recruiting part EA will officially be the worst company ever in my eyes.

The multiplayer shit is also fine. It's open to everyone. Everyone can do the Facebook recruitment thing. If you get collector's edition you get the artbook. And what's wrong with the soda DLC? You get one small item that has a small bonus with a code that's on ANY soda bottle. Even if you don't drink it, there are shitloads of people that gave codes away because they don't play the game.
