I'm still gonna have to go with the racist option of sticking with humanity regardless of how we are, then expressing my desire for reform through civil war. Aliens are allies or assets but my loyalty is with my race always.
Manifest destiny and all that shit, I reckon we could make a nice impact if we ever find aliens.
If we're anything like the way we are right now by the time we make contact, I won't be surprised when the aliens make a large impact on us.
America would attack or at least abduct the aliens, I'm pretty sure there was a leak of their "just in case alien" documents a few years ago.
How about oyu come visit then?
Whereabouts are you? I'm going to Vienna.
Way too many variables, good chance we wouldn't have the tech of a normal space faring race if we were new to it so it'd be a lovely assrape.
Just hope that they treat us like a scared and confused animal stuck in a cage and don't hold it against us if we react violently. Just restrain us until we calm down and can talk like grown-ups.

I reckon they'd be just as surprised as we are at alien life. Who knows, maybe the first military encounter will be comprised of soldiers refusing to shoot either side because... well, I know I'd be way too shocked to actually do anything.
That is, unless the aliens look like the Thing. Then we'd somehow firebomb them in space.
Or if they looked like spiders
Nuke'd within minutes of encounter
That makes sense (not the spiders thing, that's just racist). Also, speaking of the Thing, I kinda realised that the Necromorphs from Dead Space are very much like the Thing except with little regard for stealth; they infect everything dead and create horrors that will infect and kill everything living. The Adjutants are also like that, except I doubt that the Adjutants are inherently stealthy either; that's the job of indoctrinated sleeper agents.

If they have the tech required for interstellar transport, pretty much certain that they have the tech to stamp on us with the heel of a giant boot.
But as people have said, it'll probably just be the equivalent of a nature show, them staying the hell back and not interfering as they watch us tear at each others' throats.
Maybe they're in the habit of uplifting races, guiding them and protecting with benevolence. There's a few nice HFY copypastas involving humanity doing such a thing, I like those ones.

Plus there's the giant orb in ME1 where you see a tribe of early humans running away from an alien ship. The same type of orb you collect in Firewalker
If they were super advanced and space faring, you'd think they'd be smart enough to be compassionate/merciful towards less advanced races. But that's assuming they think at all like humans do.
[editline]5th February 2012[/editline]
not saying humans are the beacon of compassion but we'd probably understand not to bomb the shit out of the first life we came in contact with and would try to make peace

Or they would say "Well, They seem fucked up beyond all help. We should probably end their misery"
I mean we have been sending out all of our TV and Radio Broadcasts into space. They must have seen the shit we do
Let's just hope they cant access the Internet
Okay, need some advice here. Should I replay ME1 and ME2 before ME3? Or, should I just keep my save from them two games and import to ME3?
Righto guys, I was thinking, and most FP megathreads for multiplayer games have a playerlist kinda thing in the OP, so for ME3's co-op I was thinking we should do a similar thing with our origin nicknames? In case we want a facepunch match or something?

Why does smart = compassionate? For all we know there could be a swarm of Von Neumann probes getting close to our solar system right now to destroy us because some alien species figured their only chance of survival in a hostile universe was to create a race of self-replicating life-destroying spacecraft before someone else does it.
Might work, could be fun.
Where the Aliens in the Beacon vision ever confirmed to be Protheans? People seem to think that the [sp] Collector-like Prothean is a retcon [/sp]

They were always completely assumed to be Protheans, considering on Illos you saw their statues.
To be completely fair, they're an ancient race, the world of ME barely knows shit about them, and the game never directly says those ARE the Protheans.
[editline]5th February 2012[/editline]
Than again, you do talk to a hologram in ME1 (I think?) which kind of implies it.
So who knows, maybe its a massive retcon or not, Bioware your writing is 2deep4us
Also, finished all the quests and stuff and got around to Overlord for the second time. It's better than I remembered. Also, this was genuinely creepy.

I don't remember Vigil implying it. Is BSN full of trolls or something? It's a Prothean beacon, so it must be Protheans according to them. Apparantly it would be a retcon, even though it was never stated those were Protheans in the vision.

Honestly I don't really remember that much nor do I know what BSN being trolls has to do with this :v:. But honestly I'm not too sure, I'd have to replay ME1 to really see.

It's BSN who is arguing that the [sp] Collector Prothean must be Retcon [/sp] Even though it was never confirmed.

I thought the beacon/cipher visions shows the downfall of the protheans. The statues on Ilos show great resemblance with the protheans from the vision.
Someone on /v/ went batshit insane about this and made an image:
http://i.imgur.com/jfnEy.jpg
contains leaked [sp]prothean squadmate[/sp] art
[sp]Not sure if I'm remembering the script incorrectly but... don't your squadmates shit their pants when they see that the prothean looks like an asari goddess? Why didn't anyone see the resemblance with the collectors? Unless, of course, Bioware didn't decide on the prothean look until after they did ME2.[/sp]
That's because the statues look like the race in the beacon / cipher visions which shows the memory of the protheans thus it must be them.

Let's also not forgot that ME2's prothean vision plugs a collector into the same vision you had in ME1.

Watch this.
[sp]Depending on how they handle it, he could just be a Prothean who escaped the reapers during the collector process and went through most of the process. This probably won't happen though because BioWare.[/sp]
Watch this.
Well yeah, my point was that the vision implied they started like the statues on Illos, and were changed into the collectors. [sp] So they shouldn't look like the collectors by default [/sp]
Lets hope ME3's writing actually explains it. I mean hey, we can argue Bioware isn't the best. But I'm sure they'll explain this, considering Mass-Effect is their biggest franchise to date. You wouldn't want to fuck that up.

They tried to explain it, and shot themselves in the foot in the process. [sp]They said the protheans were a collections of races, so the ones from the beacon and the ones from the collectors could've been different. Except they went on to say the statues on Illos represented a species long before the protheans. [/sp]
