But it's really not efficient, there would have to be some serious use of mass effect fields to even allow them to stand up would there not? Considering that they're absolutely massive, and probably weigh an unimaginable amount. They'd need some sort of method of preventing themselves collapsing under their own weight. Surely hovering would be more efficient.
Then again, giant space squids that shoot lasers.

imo the whole walking thing is one of the major fuck ups bioware has done (and imo they've done many). Reapers, if they got to the Galaxy at all, should've taken the smart / Cylon approach and nuked shit from orbit. Or just turn a huge amount of the population into husks, they'll wipe out the rest.

It's probably got a great deal to do with psychological warfare when you think about it. I mean... imagine how morale crushing, not to mention terrifying it'd be to see giant mecha-Cthulhus stomping about on the surface of a planet. Psychological warfare is an incredibly useful tool in war.

One Reaper had a mass effect field that kept it intact in the atmosphere of a gas giant for 1.7 million years [i]while dead[/i]. I'm pretty sure Earth's gravity itsn't much of a problem for them, also hovering would be less efficient as then they'd have to support all their weight with mass effect fields rather than some of it.

Reapers aren't trying to kill everyone, they're trying to harvest them. Nuking planets would be counteractive to their plans.
