So there is no secret relay in dark space and the alpha relay is at the very edge of our galaxy? It's been too long to remember it's location on the galaxy map. Who knows how much time we actually saved killing hundred thousands of batarians, but Earth is fucked up pretty bad already in the beginning of ME3. Where is Dr. C when we need him?

Killing the Batarians bought us a couple extra weeks, which is a fair trade if you ask me.
Nevermind, however I recently came up with a question regarding the plot:
In Mass Effect 1 you block off the Citadel's signal with the Prothean software from Vigil. How do the reapers even know Sovereign failed? I'm sure they all were still hibernating to save their energy. Then the Collectors happened, why do they suddenly attack? After all ME2 made it look like the reapers finally came, because Shep blew up the collector base. Did the plot went haywire or is my memory missing a piece of the puzzle?
Sovereign could've woken them up right before he opened the citadel so they'd be ready. They would've realized he failed after not too long and would've started their way to the galaxy.
Pretty sure the game mentions the Reapers would have noticed it has been too long, (and obviously why wouldn't they notice that is been so long for their vanguard Sovereign.). They were also travelling at the end of ME2's plot, and seeing as by the time of Arrival/ME3 I suppose implies they been doing so for awhile.
I think they've been traveling since the end of ME1
I think I may ignore the thread for a while. It's becoming more and more tempting to click the spoilers and the only game I've played that hasn't been spoiled for me in the past five years is ffXIII. Which I have still yet to complete.
I think they've been traveling since the end of ME1
If so, then why Human-Reaper?
I have to save my honour. The Citadel was the biggest mass relay in our galaxy leading to dark space. Sovereign was already of the regular time schedule and the deactivation of the citadel caused the reapers to travel into milky way.

They lost one of their number.

A couple of months or years actually.
For once, genocide is a good(?) thing.

You are implying that it is ever a bad thing with Batarians. Death to the xenos.

I suppose I'd feel more sympathetic to the species if they weren't all characterized as racist fuckwits.
Found this from last year:

New squad member announced?
I think the reason I don't like Vega at all is that he's been turned into a substitute for a Krogan squadmate. Krogans being my favourite species, I'm kind of disappointed we're stuck with a meathead who however strong, ultimately isn't going to be Krogan-level tough.

The way I think of it, it's like they got loads of characters from previous games (none of the really cool ones iirc) and had some guy walk next to them each for twenty years. The end result is Vega.
So he's sorta loads of sorta uncool guys pasted together. Whether or not all the uncoolness compressed into him actually circles back around and makes him cool is up to you.
Got to take this home from work.

He's getting kicked off the ship if he starts running around yelling "I AM HUMAAANNN"
That said, I'm more than willing to give Vega a chance, it's the other squadmates I don't want around.

I've never seen someone so fiercely defensive of a pack of Cools Light.

yeah, the other two new squadmates don't sit too right with me either. I didn't think it would matter, back when I thought I'd have a temporary squadmate with me each mission plus one permanent (garrus), but now it's looking like they're not temp squadmates but just temp NPCs.

The squad is in a sad state if I can't even field a 2 man team of characters I want. I thought for sure we would've at least gotten temp squadmates, but it doesn't even look like they've bothered. :/
Just finished Shadow Broker and Arrival DLCs.
Shadow Broker was kick-ass. The dialogue, the action, all very cool. Arrival was pretty ho-hum in my humble opinion. The action was satisfying, but the overall story left me feeling a bit hollow. Nevertheless, it still works as a lead up to ME3, but it could've been better.
The best parts of Shadow Broker were the little video clips of all the various minor characters at the end.
Vega just seems out of place and shoe-horned it to me. They didn't really need to add a new character.

Those were cool, but I think Lair of the Shadow Broker's excellence comes from having some of the best character writing we've seen to date in the Mass Effect series. Liara went straight from "Meh" to "Oh. My. God." in less than two hours, and Shepard finally got to show some humanity.

That banter between Liara and Shepard during the final battle on the hull of the ship was priceless.

"You've tested this right? Tell me you've tested it."
"Enemies on the right!"
"LIARA! TELL ME YOU'VE TESTED IT."
"Not now, Shepard!"
"Don't you miss the days when you could just rub Omni-Gel on everything?"
Solid gold.

I thought it was pretty cool how Shephard actually took a wound once (when he fights with that biotic chick and falls from the building) and almost got eviscerated by that same biotic chick.
We really need more close calls like that. So the player's less going "oh cool he just jumped that gap" and instead says "oh shit he almost fell down that gap and died horribly".
Little differences like that can really make a character.
A thread that popped up on BSN (I know) reminded me of that DLC character in the collector's edition. How would you guys feel if
HOLY FUCK DON'T CLICK UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR SHIT RUINED
[sp]the prothean actually is a DLC character? I mean, they accidentally let it slip that the collector's edition came with the prothean. They denied everything and now it just says "exclusive character." To add to that, the prothean apparently isn't even important to the story. I even have the collector's edition pre-ordered, and I'd be fucking livid for so many reasons if that were true.[/sp]

I'll slaughter someone if that's true. [sp]You don't make the last survivor of a long-thought-extinct race an unimportant DLC character.[/sp]
