I know a few people who got rid of their copies of ME1 and ME2 and are now dismissing the franchise entirely because of those endings.

To be honest, I was (and still am) a little pissed about the endings because they're all pretty unhappy. That said, the "good" ending ends on an ambiguous enough note that I can fill in the happy ending myself. I can make that work.

It's not only about that, you know... it's the whole thing. The entire concept of these endings, each one. And yes. It sucks one hell of a huge dick.

Bioware [i]themselves [/i] said there would be a range of endings and some of them would be reasonably good. In reality, all the endings amount to the same thing and they're all bad. I'll dig up the quotes if I have to. Yes, billions were going to die in the war, but Bioware took it one step further than that. Poorly written drama for drama's sake that shits on everything you've ever done in the trilogy.
All the Endings are Ambiguous.
Also haven't got on the Normandy yet sadly, you get rail-roaded a bit until the Citadel. But I don't mind, the Narrative calls for it and that is hunki-dori.

So is everybody pissed at them because they're all grimdark, or because they're not written well?
I can see the endings being something people will debate with each other over.

Both, really.
I'm sure the game is awesome, it's just all the side shit they are pulling off which is disappointing.
Endings are actually not really that dark at all.
Than again this is the same series where its about extinction at the hands of an unstoppable force and in ME2 you see people get turned into DNA goop.
I can't say I didn't expect something dark from ME3.

once again I don't think the main problem is that the endings are dark, but that your previous choices in the previous games don't matter at all in regards to the endings

I don't think I've seen the that trailer. It's not like I am bothered by spoilers or anything, just generally saying.
Whelp 1 hour in and ME3 already makes me want to cry.
After playing for only 3 hours I really like the dialogue, its not to the point where I have to get Shepard to confirm that he wants cereal for breakfast but not automatic to the point where he just killed fifty million people. You still make every major decisions, just your major decisions effect your overall attitude, which makes sense unless you have a split personality.
Also scanning isn't a chore anymore, its somewhat fun trying to balance finding everything and not getting the Reapers to come rape you.
