[sp]The catalyst created the reapers to create controlled genocide. He was protecting organics from themselves, because the Reapers stop them from complete self annihilation. That's what the point of it was. You're not seeing far enough into it. I understand it's still kind of an oddly simple reason for it, but it is "for the greater good" sort of thing. Saying that "so you use machines to kill people so machines don't kill people" is your defense against the Catalyst's reasoning is a bit short sighted.[/sp]
Yes, [sp]It built a species of sentient creatures who's only purpose is to kill off all life, to protect them from creating a species of sentient creatures that would inevitably kill off all life.[/sp]

"I kill everyone because OBVIOUSLY it is completely impossible for synthetics and organics to co-exist." Also, you ignored the fact that Shepard proved the catalyst completely wrong earlier in the game.[/sp]
So, I just started writing a fairly poor fanfic to cover the glaring gap in my heart the ending left. [editline]16th March 2012[/editline] i really hope it doesn't stay my main idea behind the game, i'd like for this to get patched but hope is hard to find

Operation Goliath is really making me wish armour, weapon and ammo enhancements weren't used up whenever a match ends prematurely. You don't get any XP or credits when that happens anyway.
[sp]But what the Catalyst said is very presumptuous. "I kill everyone because OBVIOUSLY it is completely impossible for synthetics and organics to co-exist." Also, you ignored the fact that Shepard proved the catalyst completely wrong earlier in the game.[/sp]
[sp]Yeah, the main problem with that whole idea is that it's something you have to build up to thematically throughout the series by showing examples of how AIs and organics can't coexist. Instead the games have literally the opposite, with EDI and showing how the geth only attacked organics because the reapers forced them to. The only genuinely malicious synthetics the player encounters are the reapers. The reaperchild's whole premise has no basis in the game narrative so it's stupid to make Shepard accept it, and even stupider to expect players to.[/sp]

It's been a day and I'm still depressed by the ending.

Has this been posted yet? http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/324/index/10089946
There’s been a lot of discussion and debate about the conclusion of Mass Effect 3, so I thought I’d share my perspective with you here. I’ll avoid outright spoilers, but I’d still recommend finishing the game and experiencing it for yourself before reading this. For the last eight years, Mass Effect has been a labor of love for our team; love for the characters we’ve created, for the medium of video games, and for the fans that have supported us. For us and for you, Mass Effect 3 had to live up to a lot of expectations, not only for a great gaming experience, but for a resolution to the countless storylines and decisions you’ve made as a player since the journey began in 2007. So we designed Mass Effect 3 to be a series of endings to key plots and storylines, each culminating in scenes that show you the consequences of your actions. You then carry the knowledge of these consequences with you as you complete the final moments of your journey. We always intended that the scale of the conflict and the underlying theme of sacrifice would lead to a bittersweet ending—to do otherwise would betray the agonizing decisions Shepard had to make along the way. Still, we wanted to give players the chance to experience an inspiring and uplifting ending; in a story where you face a hopeless struggle for basic survival, we see the final moments and imagery as offering victory and hope in the context of sacrifice and reflection. We've had some incredibly positive reactions to Mass Effect 3, from the New York Times declaring it “a gripping, coherent triumph”, to Penny Arcade calling it “an amazing accomplishment”, to emails and tweets from players who have given us the most profound words of appreciation we've ever received. But we also recognize that some of our most passionate fans needed more closure, more answers, and more time to say goodbye to their stories—and these comments are equally valid. Player feedback such as this has always been an essential ingredient in the development of the series. I am extremely proud of what this team has accomplished, from the first art concepts for the Mass Effect universe to the final moments of Mass Effect 3. But we didn't do it on our own. Over the course of the series, Mass Effect has been a shared experience between the development team and our fans—not just a shared experience in playing the games, but in designing and developing them. An outpouring of love for Garrus and Tali led to their inclusion as love interests in Mass Effect 2. A request for deeper RPG systems led to key design changes in Mass Effect 3. Your feedback has always mattered. Mass Effect is a collaboration between developers and players, and we continue to listen. So where do we go from here? Throughout the next year, we will support Mass Effect 3 by working on new content. And we’ll keep listening, because your insights and constructive feedback will help determine what that content should be. This is not the last you’ll hear of Commander Shepard. We look forward to your continued support and involvement as we work together to shape the remaining experiences in the story of the Mass Effect trilogy. Thanks for taking this journey with us. Casey Hudson
Is this possible Ending DLC confirmation? (Probably not, but I hope so)
It's been over a week, and I still can't stop thinking about it.
That's kinda pathetic. Sure, I was a little angered by it for the first 10 minutes after but then I accepted it and I don't care because it's a game, and the ending won't ruin it for me because in my eyes it isn't about the ending, or else games would just be movies, interactive movies, where you don't really get a choice anyways. It's about the journey there, too. People are quick to forget that.

Except the ending was suppose to show how your choices mattered. If we were going on how the journey mattered not the ending I should be playing on action mode.
Anyone know the magic spell for Coalesced to change the sniper rifle barrel extension's last upgrade model back into the huge muzzle break? It looked pretty boss on the Black Widow.
Except the ending was suppose to show how your choices mattered. If we were going on how the journey mattered not the ending I should be playing on action mode.
Well of course the choices you make in-game affect later on. Yes, I agree that really your choices didn't make a huge difference in the end, but really, it's asinine that people say "Oh the entire series is RUINED because of this ending!!"
That's kinda pathetic. I can live with the [sp]death of commander Shepard.[/sp] Hell, I even expected it when I was halfway through ME2. What they did not give us, however, is the closure we all wanted. All the things you've worked for in ME1, ME2 and the biggest part of ME3 are left for what they were. We do not get to see what happens to all the alien races that have helped us retake Earth. We are not explained what the Normandy is doing fleeing from the scene of battle. We do not get to see how the alliances between the Krogan and the Turrians are the Geth and the Quarians are working out outside of war. Instead, we are presented by a plothole riddled ending which negates all the work you've put into the games. And that is what pisses me off.
Marauder Shields was definitely the best part of the game.

(Probably not, but I hope so)
That's a whole lot of words that say very little, and also fails to touch on the ending beyond a passing glance. Probably still too early for them to say anything concrete. [editline]17th March 2012[/editline]
Oh, I love that ending. But, I figured while we still have no concrete answer, I might as well provide my own twist.
Yeah, I'm doing the same. Arkis has some great ideas, but I want to make it my own.
Anybody remember this from [sp]the last scene? It got some momentum with the Indoctrination theory[/sp] [img_thumb]http://i40.tinypic.com/nlsebc.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://i42.tinypic.com/13ydst0.png[/img_thumb] Well, I'm playing through ME2, and I'm on the mission where [sp]you go to investigate the Collector vessel the Turians "disabled". This is a pile of bodies you observe early on.[/sp] huh
That's just reusing assets.
That's just reusing assets.
still neat [editline]17th March 2012[/editline] dibs on the "harbinger started controlling shepard on Horizon" theory!
MOTHERFUCK WHY DID I [sp]CHOOSE TO SAVE THE KROGANS, FUCKING MORDIN, NOOOO :([/sp]
MOTHERFUCK WHY DID I [sp]CHOOSE TO SAVE THE KROGANS, FUCKING MORDIN, NOOOO :([/sp]
[sp]I thought about doing a run where I save the Salarians...but then I saw that they only give you like 150 war assets. Krogan give you like 500+. Krogan win this round, always[/sp]
