Normal FTL uses a Mass Effect core to lower the mass of the ship and then uses normal engines to push it forward afaik I don't see the Crucible disrupting that, But it would take a lot longer to get anywhere, and you'd probably have to make huge ships / new engines to make it across the gaps
That, I could see. Perhaps, without nearly instant FTL via Mass Relay, the races of the galaxy would be inclined to develop better FTL (stronger engines? Not much that can be done to Eezo, speaking from a purely conjectural standpoint). Then again, that'd basically make ME into Star Trek/Stargate, except with better aliens. [editline]2nd April 2012[/editline]
Holy shit can we all just agree that space travel is kind of fucked without the Mass Relays? Even if you could go a little faster than the speed of light, it would take you for fucking ever to get anywhere.
I'm not disputing that, I'm just discussing on a different note.
What I'm interested in is their statement a while ago that this was the end of shepard's story but not necessarily of the ME Universe (Galaxy). Prequel? Sequel? Something-in-betweenquel?
Actually, I'm just realizing that ME has the biggest setting of the most recent space operas(?). Halo, Star Trek, Farscape, BSG and Firefly all took place within a very small section of the galaxy, no more than a few thousand light years (in Firefly's case, a large solar system). Stargate is the exception, especially with SGU. ME, though, gives us access to basically the entire galaxy. Every section of it. And those are just the Relays we have access to.
That's why I love Mass Effect so much. It's fucking enormous in comparison to everything else.
The games don't feel very enormous yo. Mass Effect has a huge universe, but what you experience in the games isn't very big. Whenever you visit these giant locations you can only visit a very small amount of locales, and you can't really land on any planets that aren't involved in main quests. I mean, in Mass Effect 1 it felt bigger, because you could just drive around on uncharted worlds and find random shit that wasn't really linked to anything. You could spend hours and hours exploring and still not find everything there is to find.

Speaking about feudal styles, I wonder how the different races would have looked during their "medieval periods". I kinda imagine a Rennaisance krogan with plate armour and a large flintlock.
99% of the stars in the galaxy are unexplored as of me1. Drive core discharging, limited relay network and fuel limits set a practical boundary on how much you can explore. The systems you visit are just teeny tiny bubbles of civilization in an inhospitable and unexplorable wasteland. There could be thousands of cultures, stuck without the relay FTL in the closest few systems they can limp to.
The games don't feel very enormous yo. The citadel is like 5 rooms with nothing to interact with, same goes for pretty much every other place you visit.
I don't have to see something in this game to know it exists in the game world.

Stargazer hadn't heard anything from alien civilizations, everyone is in their own.
Or all the species, for that matter. The asari, especially, considering they're almost universally biotic.

A fantasy game, but with the Mass Effect races, and their relationships with each other.
Or all the species, for that matter. The asari, especially, considering they're almost universally biotic.
Which reminds me, we haven't seen normal asari husks. Banshees are the asari with the latent AY-gene, approximately 1% of the population. I'd imagine normal husks would be like human husks except with barriers and biotic punches.
You know what would be interesting? A fantasy game, but with the Mass Effect races, and their relationships with each other.
Galaxy of Fantasy, based on turian mythology!
I wonder how early krogan guns looked, or melee weapons, for that matter.
I've actually pondered what each race would've used in each of their "middle" ages. The Krogan probably would've used large, wide-headed spears, as any other kind of melee weapon would completely lack the depth and penetration needed to kill a Krogan. Alternatively, they might've used heavy, wide-bladed machetes or military picks heavy enough to penetrate a Krogan skull. The Turians probably used maces, given their long limb reach (allowing for high-momentum swings) and bony body structure (necessitating a weapon that can splinter bone easily.)
People earlier were speaking of "their moment" of the game, and this one definitely got me. The "hold you again part" was a little wonky for me.
There most likely is no galactic community. Stargazer hadn't heard anything from alien civilizations, everyone is in their own.
Remember though, the remainders of the fleets that re-took earth are in orbit after the space magic went down (in the "best" endings). So maybe Earth has become a new hub of galactic civilization? Or at least has the most diverse population species-wise.
what the hell, you can be gay with kaiden?
what the hell, you can be gay with kaiden?
Very.
why isn't ashley a lesbian god damn it
She's way too religious for that.
why isn't ashley a lesbian god damn it
a threesome option as a side romance would have been hilarious (and kinda hot depending on who) and deviant art would never stop with the slashfic [editline]2nd April 2012[/editline] never
She's way too religious for that.
I guess it just doesn't fit her character. Each sex gets two: FemShep having two lesbian LIs and MaleShep having two gay LIs.

Actually, in the first game, Liara seemed totally fine with it, but Ashley flipped the fuck out.
Bugger, looks like I'll be missing Beachhead. In other news, it'd be cool if they released some MP DLC that let you play PVP, or as the enemy forces. Maybe not let you pick classes as it is now, but make them wave/point based unlocks. For example, playing as Reapers you'd only get Husks/Cannibals for the first two waves, then Marauders wave 3-4, ravagers wave 6-7 and brutes/banshees in the final waves.
So I tried the multiplayer for the first time today - university network issues prevented me from playing. Two things - 1) It's surprisingly good, 2) I seem to be forced to play engineer due to no-one else having Overload/Incinerate to deal with wankers, and 3) My God, credits come thick and fast. That was three things. I meant three things
