Yea, yea, hindsight is 20/20. He seemed like the best choice in ME1. He was a shitty dude but he was a politician. You have to expect politicians to be shitty dudes because the political world is full of shit to begin with. Udina seemed to have noble intentions throughout the game, and although he wasn't a savory dude, he seemed like a guy who wanted the best for humanity.
[editline]14th April 2012[/editline]
Also, please note that if you choose Anderson, in ME2 he is effectively bitching at you for the decision. He isn't a politician, and he has Udina do most of the work anyways. Udina is just plain out more effective as a politician.
Anderson is a bro, but he is a soldier.

More like foresight. Pretty much everyone chose anderson over him because he's completely untrustworthy and shifty eyed. He constantly throws you and others under the bus for his own political advancement, even when fucking Rl'yeh has arisen and the old ones are ravaging the world of men.
Maybe I'd choose him if I wanted someone to manage trade disputes or something. Not if I wanted someone to help me take down Nyarlethotep and the legions of the Black City.
Did we ever find out why [sp]Udina staged the coup in ME3[/sp]?
I know this is going to be a fairly unpopular opinion, but I'm completely fine with Wrex just being a squadmate in ME1 and being a person you talk with in ME2/ME3. I understand that Wrex is cool and all, but you get enough time to talk to him and let his character develop in ME2/ME3 without having him on the Normandy 24/7. Besides, uniting the Krogan under one banner that's not oriented towards galactic domination is a full-time affair.
I don't disagree at all. I understand why Wrex wasn't a squad mate in ME2 or ME3 - it was kind of obvious from his dialogue in ME1 that eventually he was going to try to reunite the Krogan once again as he had in his past, and, like you say, that's no easy feat - it's gonna take dedication.
But as much as I understand that it still doesn't make it any less disappointing that we miss out on him being a squad mate. He had some brilliant dialogue in ME1 when he was with you on missions.
Also, if I had to choose between Garrus or Wrex, to be fair I'd choose Wrex. That might not be a fairly popular opinion but I think I just generally like him more than Garrus (not that I dislike Garrus, he's pretty cool), plus... well, he's kinda more important than Garrus. I mean as per above he's uniting the Krogan and shit.

Can you name a successful politician who wasn't self interested? Like I said, Udina is selfish and resourceful, which makes him great at politics. Couple that with his seemingly sincere interest in the future of humanity, and it makes him a better choice.
Did we ever find out why [sp]Udina staged the coup in ME3[/sp]?
He was frustrated with the Council's inaction as far as the Reapers were concerned. Again, the coup still had somewhat good intentions, even if he was being manipulated and did a really shitty thing. It's sort of like TIM, except not as extreme. In ME2 he seems like an alright guy even though he's a complete shithead. He has noble intentions, but acts in a very horrible way. That's the way I remember it, at least.
By the way, assuming that was the reason Udina [sp]staged the coup[/sp], he was ultimately successful, because after that the council all threw in their support.

Disappointment can be good in a story sometimes. It depends on if you are disappointed at the situation, or you are disappointed with the writing itself. In this case I think the disappointment with Wrex is good disappointment. It wasn't poorly written, but it still sucks that he couldn't come along and save the galaxy with you.

exactly
that's why i elected a bro instead of a politician
because a bro isn't going to be pulling shit while I try to kill Shub-Niggurath.
I was pissed off at the fact that there weren't really any dialogue options during the meeting at the start of the game.
I'd have loved to have Shepard respond really sarcastically or angrily to the question "how do we stop them?"
Shepard: "How do we stop what?! The 'Reapers'? They don't exist remember! I've been trying to tell you about these big, evil, non-existent, sentient star ships for 3 years now for just for shits and giggles! There isn't anything to stop!"
Then he walks up to the desk and punches them all out.

But a bro isn't going to be effectively communicating with the other councilors.
Like I said, Udina pulling shit actually worked. His betrayal was successful, and in a way he could be considered a "Judas" of the ME world. He was a traitor, but his betrayal ended up doing good.

I wish. That would have been an excellent Renegade intro. :v:

Can you be the new writer for Mass Effect? I laughed out loud at that.

I really wished they put in a dialog option where you can "air quote" the turian councelor.

please become a writer :'D
I was really starting to like Udina and then that happened
Maybe it's just a rock that's standing up. There have been natural formations that have been monolith-like.
When can I go to the stars?
"Soon my sweet".
"I'm a boy, and why you are acting so pedo-ish...."

It's the fucking Protheans man. They tried to uplift our species with a monolith but ended up missing and hitting the wrong planet!

Oh my fucking god Shepard is such a douchebag. It's a good thing Ashley deserves it.
"He's not a zombie is he?" :v:
she just acts like you're not even being a dick
Ashley is a reaper all this time. For a second there, I thought she was a floating head.
Can you be the new writer for Mass Effect? I laughed out loud at that.
If I wrote any of the ME games there'd be paragon decisions, renegade decisions, neutral decisions, and then there'd also be the 'incredibly sarcastic' decisions where Shepard would simply go off on long winded tangents to prove why people are morons by pointing out how stupid and flawed their logic is.
Oh I just finished my billionth playthrough of ME1 to christen my new desktop and Ashley is such a bible thumping racist bitch to Liara at every impasse that I couldn't have been happier to get to Virmire short of dancing on her grave.
My Resurgence pack isn't showing up in the store
My Resurgence pack isn't showing up in the store
Are they even out yet?
The Resurgence Pack will probably get to us on Tuesday, like the other weekend packs.
Speaking of which, the Premium Specter Packs expire on Monday (for Americans, at least) so get your fill before they're gone.
I've never gotten much good from the Premium Spectre packs, I've always had more luck with the normal spectre packs personally.

Wow, this is MUCH better than the current one. It still doesn't utilise specific choices to achieve certain endings, but it's still better than the original.
I really should start writing my other two alternate endings, the ones that require specific choices to be made, whilst also having personal choices at the end of each finale. Time to begin writing Song of the Rachni ending, a unique spin on Synthesis.
I DON'T WANT ANOTHER FUCKING ARC PISTOL FUCKKKK ARC PISTOL IV
I did get a Black Widow in the same crate though.
What's a good weapon for Gold?
The Raptor's really working out for me so far.
