This thread made me nostalgia hard, havn't played it in a while. But ive seen some vids of 4.0 and yeah the feeling of half life isn't there. Those were some gooood times, back in the days of Team Fortress Classic, Sven Coop, speculating about Half-life 2. Daily nostalgia dose complete.
I've been playing Sven Co-op since before the Source engine existed, when there were more servers, more players, more fun, and it was more alive. I'm a regular on the Snark Cafe servers, I mic spam, yeah, but it's mostly music, but it doesn't change anything for me, I still have fun, but I still miss the old days when I was an ent mod admin on some server, those were good days.
wonder if any old snarkcafe regular remembers me

I do believe it was ruined when it lost the old-school Half-life 1 feeling to it.
I remember being hyped as fuck over version 4.0. And then I completely forgot about it until version 4.5, so I downloaded it and it wasn't fun at all, it was just.. Bland..
Yeh yeh same here man but I will never forget the day that I downloaded svencoop 3.0...it was an amazing experience back in the day to play half-life coop with lots of new guns and monsters,I was happier than the day I had my first girlfriend ahahhaha.Damn shame version 4 ruined it
Sven Coop 3.0 was the best version in my opinion. It didn't have all those tactic00l weapons that 4.0 has and it really kept the old school Half-Life 1 feel. Goddamn so many hours of fun I had on all the amazingly fun levels. I don't play as much Sven Coop anymore, it just feels kinda meh. The game lost its soul. It can still be fun every now and then though. I'll download that low definition pack and see if the game feels better with it. The new weapon sounds are annoying.

Sven Co-op still being cool. Like the rest of people said, avoid those servers (or better, make a dedicated server for playing with your friends like i do). About the models, is true that it make me angry in the 4.0 version, due the lag it made (30fps on a GoldSrc game, unbelievable), although later they fixed it.
For me, the best "map" is the [I]The Escape Series[/I]. The best combination of cooperation, adventure, plot (it doesnt have much, but well) and action that i have been seen in my life.
P.D: Playing mods like They Hunger or USS Darkstar with your friends is without any doubt the best you can do.

can't beat it now since the new updates broke it even when if you do fix it the end boss doesn't die making the map unbeatable

I never trusted the secretcity/turrican maps ever since nomble. Freaked the shit outta me back then.

The Birkin monster was in the REO1 not RECO.
I'm surprised some of you even remember those maps though. I wish they would have made them official maps.
Sven Co-Op was dead to me after they changed the guns and made the AI completely ridiculous. Valve did a good job on the original grunt AI. They were capable of communicating with eachother, realistically used grenades, and using cover. I tried to play a map with a lot of grunts after the update, and they all bumrushed the hallway I was in firing wildly(but of course super accurate), after throwing a nade each of course. It wasn't fun anymore.
The 'Half Life feel' was the mods selling point anyways, I could only imagine what Half Life would have been if Valve had included Co-Op from the start. When they added the new 'realistic' weapons, that was it for me. It sucks though, so many damn good memories. RECO, RE1, SvenCoop1 and 2, extended, extension, arena, They Hunger, Escape, osprey, AfrikaKorps(Everyone always left when the server hit this map).... Wow I can remember so many good maps. Makes me want to play it again, but I wouldn't be able to launch ten grenades from my MP5.

Being someone who started playing Sven when it was at 4.0, I only really started hating it when they gave the alien grunts the ability to throw snark nests.
Why did they have to combine the two most annoying enemies?
I'm not a massive fan of the burst fire plus manual reload rifle , nor with the run and gun enemies , but in my opinion it's just the XP mods ruining sven , as well as the lack of anything new coming out for it. I mean half of the current maps for it look hideously ugly and although they have good gameplay , it really dampens the feel for me.
I remember if it was Sven Coop where you had the garrysmod map, gravity gun and stuff, and props stashed somewhere unaccessible for non-admins, and metrocop model. Before Half-life2 if I'm right.
Anyway I made a puzzle in the air with pipes and propellers and picked random players into my deadly maze with the gravity gun :v: (also noclip, I got granted those admin tricks for some reason)
