And Fez isn't a platformer. of course you're not going to like it if you try to shove it into categories where it doesn't belong.

It really is just another ~deep~ indie pixel platformer BUT WITH A TWIST
It's a puzzle game ya dingus. It's not that hard and deep of a concept to understand.
To be fair he does make fair points in that video but TBG is suppose to be satire even though was never funny. Somehow it's very ironic to call out gimmicks when you're one of those "I hate popular and well received games so I am cool and edgy" people.
It's a platformer with puzzles in it.
it would be a platformer if it's main thing was the platforming, which it definitely isn't at least for me and most people who played it. i got nothing out of jumping around and enjoyed the game for the puzzle bit of it. i bought this game cause of the praise it got and thought "man how can jumping around and collecting stuff be fun nowadays at all" but the game isn't about that.
This is a silly argument. I think it is neat that this game involves QR codes in secrets, and does a lot of sorta 4th wall stuff, like the first section where it shows their computer systems rebooting. Hillarious. Is there a way to read QR codes though if you don't have a phone/tablet with a reader? What are folks without those supposed to do?
There are alternative solutions to those.

Sweet Wikipedia link man! All I wanted to say with "Fez isn't a platformer" is that the game is not focusing on that bit and as such you shouldn't call it crap cause the platforming isn't great (no enemies to stomp on, you don't die) I thought the platforming wasn't great too, but still loved the game for everything else it did.
It's a puzzle game ya dingus. It's not that hard and deep of a concept to understand.
It's a puzzle game with no puzzle or challenge. From what I've seen of the game, there's no puzzle except keep rotating until you see the block you're looking for. And never pay any attention to things like "IT TOOK 5 YEAR TO DEVELOP" When an indie developer says that it usually means they worked on it for one year, took a three year break, and then worked on it for the last year or less.
It's a puzzle game with no puzzle or challenge. From what I've seen of the game, there's no puzzle except keep rotating until you see the block you're looking for.
You haven't seen everything then. The rotating part is done in like a couple hours.
You haven't seen everything then. The rotating part is done in like a couple hours.
So what you're saying is that their whole driving gimmick is only used in the first parts of the game Brilliant
So what you're saying is that their whole driving gimmick is only used in the first parts of the game Brilliant
There's still rotating in the latter parts of the game but it gets more interesting than "rotate and now you can jump on this platform". There are actual puzzles instead of "figure out how to rotate this so you can collect this yellow box".
I must admit that the rotating to 3D thing wasn't very well incorporated into the puzzles. That disappointed me but I still think the game is great, because the other puzzles and the story/atmosphere of the whole game were very well done and gave the whole game a sense of awe and mystery. Really mysterious atmosphere etc, but I do think if you're not in the mood or if you don't want to like it you'll probably just find it boring. Or alternatively you can say it's just pretentious Indie SHITE. It's really down to interpretation. Some people enjoy it. Most hate it.
I must admit that the rotating to 3D thing wasn't very well incorporated into the puzzles.
Most of the puzzles based solely on rotation can be solved fairly quickly. The black hole anomalies that show up a little later, though sparse, make them a little more interesting because you have to figure out alternative routes, or get to point B in a slghtly different way. I enjoyed one section where it used to just be a platform you made by flipping one switch, but when a fold in space occured, I then had to flip two switches to create a bridge from which i could shimmy across, just beneath the anomalies to avoid being vaccuumed into space. On another note though, one of my major beefs is finding out how to navigate the map. It is a cool concept, web of cubes and such, but it can be finicky, making it hard to see where you are supposed to go, or making the wrong map cubes fade that you were trying to reach. Having to look for the specific door to navigate through to get somewhere can also be a bother. In some areas, it shows the environment you will travel to in the background, but at other times, it is a guessing game. The companion you have helps by showing you where a door leads before you go into it, but I think a "select destination" system would have helped, which would do something like cause a faint rim of light along door frames that would lead you to the fastest route for your destination.

Fez might be another mock indie game, but it is 10 bucks, and it is still an enjoyable experience. It has good ambiance, the art, for being 2D pixel art, is still vibrant and pleasing to look at, character animations are cute and fun, there is an occasional chuckle here and there, it has some interesting puzzles, and the 3D rotation element isnt annoying or anything, just adds another element. It might not be a challenging platformer, or something to be praised as truly innovational, it has the occasional glitch. It is still a pretty good experience for its price tag, with quite a few mysteries to solve and a nice length to its play time.
I'm finding this game to be a quite enjoyable experience.
Just completed the game to 209.4%, which I think has to be, or is at least is very close to the maximum you can legally get. Such a great game. I just find it sad that I'll never have that experience of that wonderment and curiosity of discovering it all for the first time again, like seeing the crazy worlds and levels for the first time and cracking the puzzles, codes and the alphabet.
Nope, I don't own a XBox. What if they pulled a super meat boy and told you that it is better to play with a controller?
And there are no controllers on pc right?
Surprised this thread is so dead considering afaik this is one of the best indie games released in months... guess it'll get popular once the PC version is released.

Is there even any proof that minecraft uses developer graphics for example? I don't remember notch ever stating that he was going to significantly overhaul the textures or existing graphical style of the game and then just saying fuck it. In fact the only texture he changed IIRC was the cobblestone, and that was because majority opinion was that it was ugly as sin (Valid).

Some crazy shit hidden in the soundtrack apparently. Downloading now, it is a good listen
Ok now he's just trying to be ~deep~ and <<ArTiStIqUe>>
I bought this yesterday after a friend nagged me to get it. From his description I really didn't think this would be any better than one of 100 free flash games on random websites, but I was so wrong. It's ingenious. The way that the rotation makes sense but doesn't always follow complete logic and you're able to move the 3D direction to reach "impossible" areas is so clever. Sometimes you look at something that doesn't seem possible and just have to think outside the box (the "normal physics box") and then you'll manage it. For me, it got a bti samey after a while, but that's probably cos I played 80% of it through in one long sitting. I'll finish it off some day. For what it cost, this game is a bargain.
