Sadly, no. You have to be playing the game while you host, and we can't do anything if you go afk.

In version 1.92 they added the option for preferred hosts to host a dedicated crawl server.
In crawl you can't earn cp, so this won't be that great for new people, but you still get tokens and items which you can use to make gear if you play long enough. A new player can't hurt the team, and once I beat chapter three I will be able to revive people.
Two of the game developers are hosting, so you could get on and play right now instead of the usual long wait for a server to pop up.
Version 1.94, there is dedicated story mode now too!
