Why horror games on older engines are just more freakin' scary?
Now it gets attention from most of facepunch? C'mon, I've been waiting for this since early 2009, wait no, I think 2008... But, anyways, I've talked to ruMpel about the game, he's pretty awesome.
Holy shit that's crazy haha.

This mod looks really awesome but this thread is just very very late.
Afraid of monsters directors cut is scary as fuck. Seriously, it's scarier than silent hill series :ohdear:
I look forward to scaring myself silly with this, looks awesome :v:
Why horror games on older engines are just more freakin' scary?
because monsters look scarier with low quality textures and rough models
because monsters look scarier with low quality textures and rough models
YES, THAT'S EXACTLY HOW IT WORKS! I'm not shitting you either, I get more scared from playing Resident Evil 2, than 5.

Oh wow, that's pretty impressive for Goldsrc. EDIT: I removed the image, I apologize for it.
good job ruining the image
Sorry.
YES, THAT'S EXACTLY HOW IT WORKS! I'm not shitting you either, I get more scared from playing Resident Evil 2, than 5.
That's how it works most of the time. There are a few exceptions, though, such as Amnesia. That was both a beautiful game and pretty much the scariest anything ever. Also, 5 was basically an action game, rather than a horror game. Of course 2 was scarier.
Why horror games on older engines are just more freakin' scary?
Your mind is able to fill in more details. I think. Not only that, but sometimes the graphics can be just so vague, it's dreamlike.

play this until black mesa source comes out, then realize that BM:S is a shit mod that wasn't worth waiting an eternity for, then play this some more
Why HL1
There's less competition in GoldSRC modding and you only need one game to have everything you need available. In source you have at least 12 active mods being worked on at one time, and it's broken up so that you may have HL2, but not be able to play all the mods. Really finding a good Source engine mod can be like finding a needle in a haystack. Also, they tend to stand out more. The source engine leaves "fingerprints" everywhere that makes it impossible to forget you're playing a HL2 mod.
Reminds me so much of Silent Hill... Only more fast paced and first person.

Even though, I'm not able to pass some parts of the game, due to no progression. So, I keep passing out.
That pond screenshot looks almost like the pier in RE4. Don't shoot the water!
Your to picky.
:eng101: I want that bad spelling rating back. On-topic: Looks nice for gold. Also I hope it refrains from a lot cheap scares and sticks with creepy atmosphere.

I can recognize almost any texture, sound or animation from HL2 after years of playing it and its mods. This really kills the atmosphere, and the only way to really negate this problem is make a total conversion... an almost impossible task for most modding teams.
Any word on when this is out?
I've been waiting for it for a while, after I discovered it had bumpmapping. afraid of monsters has so far been the only game that has legimately scared me.
