I don't have the trouble with the vehicles anymore :-) Just the planes really, the ones that are available are not available very often so it's very difficult to get anywhere with aircraft as a new player. The aircraft available and the poor flight model (at least in the ones available) also are very off putting to a new player. Another frustrating aspect is the continual destruction of my armour to machine gun fire. I would expect it from a panhard or similar but when your in an R-35 or an A-13 you would expect they would take it. It seems odd to say but my best times in this has been as a rifleman, and the game can be very rewarding, but for the majority of the time entering in as a noob it's just frustrating, i'm only about 50 pionts off level 3 for infantry when most of the good weapons open up so hoping that aspect will get better. The pictures earlier on this page where the germans organised 50 tanks and sent recon vehicles ahead, that should be how this game is played, but in the week i've played it's nothing like that at all. All the attacks i've seen have been few scattered infantry and the odd tank. Have the days where that sort of organisation gone? Reading this thread before i joined the trial i was expecting this sort of thing happening often and i think this is the biggest disapiontment. I was hoping to go in and be part of organised attacks with large numbers of units, but all attacks even with large numbers are just idividuals doing what they want and not following any tactics or plan. Don't get me wrong, it's genrally a good game but to make me come back for more than mabee a month after the trial i would have liked to see a bigger tactical element to the battles i take part in.

We took it in about 30 mins.

A little explanation and apology in order, by the way. I was the guy that was leading the silent cap on the town of maastricht. Didn't quite go over so well because not everyone was privy to, or appreciative of, the idea of sneaking around and being like a ninja :) So that's why I asked the noobs :P to defend the FB (firebase). A little mean of me, perhaps, although we really did need legitimate defense at the FB because we had nobody else there lol. Thanks for working with me; I appreciate it. Yeah definitely come by my training class monday night, 7:00PM US EST, GMT-5. It's gonna be pretty long, so expect to spend at least 2-3 hours with me :o If you don't feel like sticking around that long, no worries. The first 2 hours will be flight training anyways.

IF you can launch offline but not online, most likely a firewall is in place. XP has one built in, virus checkers have one built in and Zone Alarm etc are firewall. Each new update or inital install of ww2ol requirres new privs be given to the executable. Any time you have a problem , post in the ww2ol help forums..PC or Mac and there are a lot of people who have been fixing stuff online for this game for the last 7 years. Welcome aboard all you new guys..Bloke13 is in the Black Knight Brigade and like all new guys, he seems to be enjoying himself. WW2OL is a very newbie friendly game. FYI..the Graphics. This may have been posted..but.. The graphics will never be standalone 32 player quality because..the map and view distance is a minimum of about 4k for infantry and 8 or more for planes etc. In this you have all the trees, bushes, bldgs, players...which can be up to 128 in each view..left 128..look right another 128, smoke, explostions,bodies, tank hulks, tracers, sounds and more. If polygons were not budgeted there would not system capable of displaying the graphics. So..when things can have few polys it does. The Rats are always improving the graphics and a new engine is due this year. Unity II will help with graphics, FPS and connection. So, there is more to see than a 200x200 meter map on a standalone..no smoke fog, bldgs to shorten the view distance. Now, the damage model. Each round..Each..is tracked for 3k meters or until it has lost all of its energy. Its velocity,energy, tragectory, its angle of impact on any of the many components of each "thing", the lost of energy which is converted into damage on the component, it angle of exit, its energy, velocity, direciton and its production of spalling, concussion efffect from HE component of the round,,if any...are also all tracked with the energy direciton ad infinitum...the round is then tracked till it hits another component, the damage inflicted..its exit ...on and on till the round has traveled 3k or has come to rest. All of this is going on in the background and coupled with the graphic needs of such a long view distance, when FPS can be save by being a little bit less than Art on the stuff in view, the rats have done so. So, it isn't the prettiest thing to see, but it is the most immersive game I have ever played and counting the Beta I have been here for 8 years in june. Sorry about the long post, but thought you new guys should have some idea of what the game is doing. hardcase [b]Edit:[/b] A13 and smaller tanks have very thin armor..so thin in fact that the Anti Tank Rifle can .."kill" them..Penetrate and kill the crew. &.62 etc is not going to kill your tank. If you have your commander up looking around, a rifleman is going to get a kill because..lose the commander..counts as a kill of the tank. If someone is shooting you with a MG that does not mean someone is not putting a sap on your tank, or you are being killed by someone else. The damage models are closely watched by everyone and a lot of us have been here for years. If you cant find a newbie planes..check the other airports..if there are some there but no mission..ask for a mission and someone will post you, then make you mission leader. Fly with a Joystick, using a mouse kb is death and a waste of good equipment. Learn to fly offline, each plane lost on takeoff takes several real time hours to replace. Remmber..set the prop pitch with the ' key..fight in Max RPM. You would be surprices how many fly with the default setting of cruise. Set your trims. Also..as new equipment is reserache and manufactuered, the older stuff becomes newbie stuff. So, soon you will be able to use all the equipment you see higher ranked people using. NM..there is so much to flying that no one could post all the needed info.

I'll be DAMN sure to include you in the next op - including letting you in on the sneaky-sneaky attacks. Those - we call them 'ninja caps' btw - are a bit few and far between, but when they work the consequences are devastating for the opposing force!

When I use mouse controls in a plane it's really slow to turn, help?

Fusion..you cannot fly with a mouse kb.You will not be able to dogfight, you will only lose valuable aircraft and each one takes 7 hours to replace. No one recommends flying with mouse KB, you can drive...but not well..but fly is doing nothing but costing your side planes. Buy a cheap 1 hat 4 button JS. Better yet get one of quaility with a throttle. ..

Yeah, mouse and keyboard really sucks to fly. I am sad that my joystick broke. Works for everything else though.

Damn, never done so many paradrops on 1 day! Must have been around 25 para sorties against them allies. at least 10 of the sorties were successful (either taking over the whole place or start a successful capture. Also done infantry alot and some tanking. But tanking went crap. got shot 3 times (1 hit kill) and another 3 times i just didn't kill anyone.

Oh man you tankers better watch out. My squad leader showed me how to kill a tiger with one satchel and how to immobilize/1 shot all tanks :D Although the 232s hit boxes suck. We covered one in around 18 satchels and the gunner was still fine.

When I get a better PC I am buying this game and WILL NEVER STOP PLAYING.
