Magic Online is horrible
I'll look into it.
Jesus Christ, I used to just get the cards because of the awesome artwork beautifully hand craftedly etched into each one with love and care.
More like done once then mass produced.
In my opinion all TCG's are a fucking ripoff, because basically the more money you spend, the better deck you can build, and the more chance you have to win.
Although I did some collecting in the 6th and 7th grade.
Is it just me or are some of the new cards ridiculously overpowered? Like Ambassador sphinx
Alteil is another card game and is in my opinion, much better.

Not nescessarily every TCG is like that. Alteil is one example, every set has useful cards
I wish I knew someone who played Magic, I've got loads of cards but I've not played it in so long I forgot the rules.
The last time I did play a TCG was when I was 10 and I liked Yu Gi Oh.
I lost and the other guy took my favourite card ):

By any means, Ambassador Sphinx isn't overpowered. Some of the older cards tend to be even more powerful, like Mishra, Artificer Prodigy for example.
But yes, the newer a set is the stronger the cards are.
I lost all my cards :( yugioh and magic
fukken life is a bitch
Oh man, I used to play 7th edition a long time ago, definitely the best.

Not nessicarily for magic. The only deck I have is Endless March, which is a pre-assembled deck. And it's pretty damn good, most of my friends whenever we would play on occasions would always hate it when I played with it simply because of how annoying it was to play against with me.

Anyways, I love Magic. My favorite color is blue, with white being a close second.
The Xbox 360 edition is utterly terrible. They've got the rules down, all right, but you can't customize your own deck! That's half the fun!

Magic: The Gathering (colloquially "Magic" or "MTG") is a collectible card game created by mathematics professor Richard Garfield and introduced in 1993 by Wizards of the Coast. Magic is the first example of the modern collectible card game genre and still thrives today, with an estimated six million players in over seventy countries. Magic can be played by two or more players each using a deck of printed cards or a deck of virtual cards through the Internet-based Magic: The Gathering Online or third-party programs.
Each game represents a battle between powerful wizards, known as "planeswalkers", who use the magical spells, items, and fantastic creatures depicted on individual Magic cards to defeat their opponents. Although the original concept of the game drew heavily from the motifs of traditional fantasy role-playing games such as Dungeons & Dragons, the gameplay of Magic bears little resemblance to pencil-and-paper adventure games, while having substantially more cards and more complex rules than many other card games.
The Point of the Game
In a game of Magic, two or more players are engaged in a battle as powerful wizards called "planeswalkers". A player starts the game with twenty "life points" and loses when he or she is reduced to zero or less. The most common method of reducing an opponent's life is to attack with summoned creatures. Although reducing an opponent to zero life is the most common way of winning (or losing) the game, drawing from an empty deck (called the "library" during the game) will also cause a player to lose. In addition, some cards specify other ways to win or lose the game.

This should go into general discussion. Have a box.
Oh man, I love Magic! The other day I decided to organize my collection(around 4000 cards), it took a while. It goes by set, then colour, then alphabetically. My main deck for standard is a simple yet effective bant exalted beatdown kinda deal, though I'm trying to build a nice deck around Sanguine Bond(thinking white/black vampires). I have to agree with postman about the xbox live game, not letting us truly customize the decks is retarded, that's half the fun of magic.

Aye, i love making new decks. I do it all the time. Blue troll decks are the best. Load it up with a bunch of different counterspells. 4 washouts, 4 shifting skies, 4 chameleon spirits, 4 llawan Cephalid Empresses and a bunch of other cards. Winning is rare but youll piss off the other player so badly theyll rage all the way through.
The game looks fun, but there's nobody near me to duel. :emo:

It isn't just a card game.

You don't need Lich's Mirror when you have Mishra in your deck. My friend has it and in 5th turn he's got about half of his library in play. I have yet to find a way to beat his defense.
Also, Sen Triplets. If you play this and your opponent has no creatures in play it's an insta-win card (he's immobilized except for combat phase), except when you're playing something bigger than a 1v1 match.
Ravnica pissed me off with all the fifty colors bullshit ( but Debtor's Knell is nice ).
Although I kinda like the new sets, I'm just not really into it that much since the only person I have who is willing to play is heavy into tournament stuff or this monstrosity affinity deck that manages to steamroll everything except a counter-deck.
Cards from ~7th edition and earlier have some mixed art ( some of it is great and some of it... not so much ) and generally look nicer to me, but the newer cards read easier with clean backgrounds on the text.
Although I'm tired of seeing flavor text definitions for trample on the card, but not something considerably more important to explain like double strike.
If that pisses you off, the Alara block is made up of all that stuff.
Pain in the ass cause you have like 3 color cards at least.

You'll piss them off with a Stigma Lasher every time.
I fucking love bant exalted decks. I stall with a bunch of useless cards until i get a fair amount of exalted out there and Knight Captain of Eos and Mobilization . Ive learned this combo can be game breaking if the opponent doesnt have a way to kill my knight captains. I've stalled against decks far more powerful than mine until i could come back with some stupidly powerful 1/1 that become like 8/8s with lifelink when i attack.

Seems this kind of decks is quite popular since I use one too :D Skyward Eye Prophets to speed up cards and prevent mana drought, occasionally Rafiq of the Many or Stoic Angel will drop by and make my opponent's life a hell. I got lucky with my boosters. Also Angelsong in times of need and Sarkhan Vol when you have a Mana Cylix or Rupture Spire, but I don't really do that unless I'm not sure he won't die a turn after I played him.
I think I should go to a tournament with this deck, I'm pretty certain I could at least mess with my opps a little if I couldn't get anywhere high on the scoreboard :)
Exalted likes Soul's Fire, Soul's Grace, Soul's Majesty and especially Soul's Might, since it makes the power gained from all the Exalted creatures stay a "while" longer, and it doesn't prevent it from gaining more power. If you have some Naya cards, you can use Mosstodon to make sure the opponent gets hit, or simply attack with something along the lines of Jhessian Infiltrator. Infinite potential.
Last minute: Stoic Angel + Thoughtweft Gambit.

What you could do is put in a Creakwood Liege and you put in a 1/1 Wurm token every turn and it automatically becomes a 3/3. And if you have a Doomgape you sacrafice it so you gain life every turn as well as it being a 10/10 creature.
Anybody wanna play some Octgn or Apprentice?
Damn, I've just brought both my green and dark decks to my workplace, so I could play it with someone else.
It's rad, though I've still got some older cards, like, from the 6th edition? Well, I guess there isn't any problems mixing editions if you're playing it for fun right?
Yea, what sucks is that people at tournaments will bitch at you if you cards "are not in standard". So it kind of is a lame thing. But I play with ass old cards. And I like the feeling of kicking some kids ass who has all the Zendikar and M10 cards when I have like Aplha and Beta + Unlimited sets.
How do you play on OCTGN?
How do you play on OCTGN?
It's pretty much, download card packs. Make a deck out of them. And play with people via LAN.
This game is serious fun. I've been playing for 10 years now (heavily for 8 years, since Mirrodin) and it never gets old. My favorite deck color is definitely black because of the premise behind it. You have to sacrifice some of your own, but deal massive damage in return. I used to partake in Friday Night Magic at my local card shop, but not enough people were showing up and they had to stop doing it :(.
