For Standard? Or just in casual play? I used to keep up with Standard, but the local shop I went to stopped doing Friday Night Magic because attendance wasn't high enough :/
For Casual play, I mostly roll black. I think it's the most fun color to play, although making a good black deck is sometimes challenging.

I have a friend that plays the same way as you. What you should do is make a white weenie deck (Basically lots of weak low costing creatures, removal cards, and like 5 really good cards). Just try to attack as much as possible. Unless you are playing a blue deck, playing defensive doesn't work. Also, it's much more rewarding when you beat somebody in 7 turns.
I have good chances to get tons of damage out with my current angel setup I just always wait until I have a massive setup because I fear a counterattck.

Sometimes you just need to make a risky move. I always think that I'd rather lose after 4 minutes of a game than barely lose after a half hour.
Magic is great. I only started in September but it's growing on me pretty fast.
Currently running a green deck based around Beastmaster Ascension and Overhelming Stampede as win conditions. insanely fun.

Try ramp. Got my ass stomped by this one green/white ramp deck when I last went to fnm. Or control. that's always fun. Blue-White is pretty great, as is Red Blue Green

I went to make a deck and was kind of embarrassed at how many cards I had.
Even worse that I spent an hour organizing them all, and my biggest dilemma for that day was figuring out how to pull 13 cards out of a new white deck to reach the 60 count and still feel okay about it :v:
