I another attempt to make the mod less common deathmatch-ish, we have been thinking about adding utillities.
Utillities being equipables that are used to aid you or disaid others. We have had ideas like a grappiling hook, an airblast tool, a weapon stealer/remover, a jump enhancer, a jetpack and a gun that freezes/slows enemies.
Any of these ideas catch your eye? Got input? Post away.
Also: we have finished (except a few animations) the level 1 shotgun, which takes the form of a Blunderbuss. Beta versions (ie, fully working weapons, just no proper model or animations) of all weapons are done, and we have played a 2v2 team deathmatch, and our curved hud works and looks great. We have also gone for TF2 styled rendering, beacuse it looks damn good with high curve models.

We have gone for the strange naming beacuse some of the weapon classes are very generic, while others are specific. We are using alot of animation hacking for these shotguns, and although we have only got the basis for two, its quite crazy.
As for the whole innovative idea, we are thinking of something, but its not going well.
Using some scrapped HL2:beta code (a FP user messaged me and is now our coder), we have made a very, very strange system for weapon selection and such. Users will be able to hold 2 completely different weapons at a time. For example, if I press 1, my hud will pop up showing me a pic of the weapon in my handheld slot (eg, the "gangsta" gun). Now heres the strange bit: if I left click, it goes in my left hand. Right click, it goes in the right hand. Once holding the weapon, left click to fire the left gun, right click to fire the right one. Beacuse of this very strange system, there will be no hands viewmodel. Otherwise, you may have 4 arms at once! When reloading, the actual loading of the gun is done offscreen. Eg, with the revolver, the barrels will swing out, gun goes of screen, gun comes back ready to go. If this is a go, no iron sights. Sorry.
At the moment we are testing this old scripting with the CS:S Mac10 and our beta shotgun, and it feels very strange, yet fun. We have not removed the hands yet, so it is really funny to see 4 hands, 2 CS:S 2 Gordon Freemans, onscreen reloading.

I think a 4 barreled shot gun is pretty awesome. We couldnt think of any ideas for new shotguns between 1 and 5, so we just added more barrels until you get to 5, whihch is pump action.
There are no "real" assault rifles. The fast firing loadout only contains one smg, and the rest are crazy ass. Like the machine shotgun. The best gun in the handhelds is gold, and has bullets that are freaking huge. Its pretty much a instant kill, high recoil, low accuracy high reload time gun.

That where alot of these utilites come in. With the designs for the grappiling hook, we have been deciding whether is should be a steampunk, futuristic or organic style. And yes, the freeze ray will exist, and at the moment we are debating if the gravity gun and/or the portal gun would be a good adition for utilites.
Also, we have designed tesla-coil chain-crossbow weapon, which shoots electrocuted physical crossbow bolts (dont worry, we are not using the HL2 crossbow bolt. At the moment its a basic, low poly bolt with a electric trail).
Another thing is the player models: we dont want to be using the same recycled hl2 models only (but some probably will be avalible) and designs are up for multiple robots, cyborgs, aliens and such.

Now this sounds like my kinda gun.
There's far too many mods which promise 'dozens of different weapons!' which then just turn out to be variants on bullet-throwers. I really love seeing things with imagination. Make sure your weapons can actually have different effects - for example, maybe that Tesla crossbow can electrocute an enemy for a few seconds, paralyzing or slowing him down? This adds lots of strategy into the game, especially if you can select loadouts before a round - picking a combination of weapons and utilities which synergise to create new and fun tactics. Tesla crossbow to slow them down, combined with a melee weapon of some kind - you have the perfect ambush setup! :D
Otherwise you end up with the problem CS:S has - loads of different guns, but everyone only uses the 'best' ones.
Okay i'm rambling a bit, but I think this mod could end up awesome if you do stick with it. :smile:

I demand a Plasma based flame thrower, that turns people into goo and has radiation instead of fire. Instead pf directly damaging them over time, it slows them down, makes them inaccurate, and last shorter then fire. more damage in general, but rarer and more expensive/less common ammo.

We have a but on that instore. All weapons will lower/highten your speed when held. EG: a heavy weapon like the Tesla-Bow will slow you down, while a light weapon such as the "Board with a nail in it"(bad name, we know) will speed you up. This is a counter measure to people simpily walking around with two great weapons like the tesla bow and the Tri 'n get me (3 barreled shotgun). This thread has definatly given us a whole new insight: before we where simpily going to make a mod which would more so be a weapons pack. A few weapons changes we have made from reading the thread:
4 barreled shotgun replaced with the Radispitter. The Radispitter "spits" out green goo, in a simmilar way as the boomer pukes, but with less range and more spread. It only does damage over time, no damage from actualy being hit by it. Thanks TMlord.
RPChainsaw, Brainwasher and Timestick added as a "super weapons" (we decided we should have a few map based, two handed weapons that do insane damage. You cant spawn with them, atall. These are the super weapons.) RPChainsaw launches a instantkill rocket propelled chainsaw. We got the idea from a DOD:S skin on FPSB. The Brainwasher disables the user actions of who it hits, and effectively turns them into a freindly NPC that deffends you. The timestick freezes all players (except the eprson that used the Timestick) for 10 seconds. Its used by smashing it on the floor, so its only one use.
And alot more. The plans have changed from a sierious shooter, to a cartoon renderd killfest with crazy weapons and powerups galore.
You need a land-shark gun.
Also, if you haven't planned out every weapon yet, I could be an 'ideas guy'? :v: One of my few talents is an over-active imagination.

Gfard alien head
