I was disappointed beyond belief having followed Spore for 2 years before release.
The one redeeming quality the game had was the experience of trying to befriend a bowl of spaghetti only to have it crushed by a gigantic Pikachu, while other creatures were being abducted by a Gentlemen head spaceship.
To everyone wishing for the Spore we saw in the original GDC video:
Will Wright had once stated that they did have Spore made like that, back during the whole "cute vs. serious" war the dev team was having. Turned out that the more serious Spore wasn't fun to play at all. So maybe the cutesy version we have now is a blessing in disguise.
I really, really find that hard to believe.
It may not have been fun for the casual gamer but for me or you is a whole different story.

don't base 2005 spore upon just how it looked in videos
for all we know it could have been badder than the released spore
the only way we could know if it was good or bad is to play a released version of it, but that'll never happen :v:

I just want the features really, blood splatter, dragging, and better graphics.
Also
Reasons for removal of Aquatic Stage

Problems with animation.

Problems with navigation since you are in a 3 dimensional space.

Problems with camera calculating

Possible errors in alpha textures (this partly lead to the navigation problem as well)

Possibilty that the movement controls would be too much like the space stage
I can vouch for the screwed up navigation.
Looking back on it, the most enjoyment I got out of this game was watching people in a Facepunch thread make penis-shaped creatures.

Still, I don't think I'll be playing it again anytime soon. I wish I never bought the special edition. What a waste of money it was.
But the Spore we got isn't fun either so that's bullshit.
My copy only worked properly for 2 days then it crashed everytime i got on civilisation or space stage.
Also, the combat in civilisation was dreadful, how rockets magically appeared out of units that didn`t have any launchers. The only one i really liked was tribal.
The first time around this game was bad-ass. Second time around I fell asleep.
The space stage got very boring after the 10th pirate attack on the new planet you just colonized. I mean, the space stage itself had a lot of stuff to it but they were all just so stupid and so useless and took too much time to get. Like for example, how is it useful to change the color of the sky? Or make a mountain? It isn't.
The expansion was worthless. The little adventure creator was fun for about 5 hours, two being spent on little kid creations that sucked and the other 3 staging epic battles that lost their epicness quickly.
The game just fell flat.
This game is practically dead.
I remember when i got this game early on august 28th and streamed it online facepunch, Too bad they deleted the thread for it :(.
I also still have the email Buechner Patrick the vip marketer of maxis sending me a email asking where i got my copy. I told them exactly where i got it and they made the shop not sell the game for 3 months :)
Somehow i think i deleted the actual message but i still got the email in my contacts PBuechner@maxis.com
I remember when some Europeans asked me what i rated the game, I gave it a 5/10 because it was short and repetitive, So many people raged but when they got the chance to play they suddenly have a change of heart.

Oldschool photos and thread.
The only fun part was the Cell stage. The creature stage wasn't all too bad, and the Tribe stage was still playable. The Civilization stage was atrocious and the space stage was meh and full of missed potential.
They had the formula for one of the best games of all times, instead they fucked it over and made it into a shitty teaspoon-shallow kid game. No matter how much better EA gets, I'll never forgive them for that.
Spore is the greatest troll game of times. Way to break everyone's hopes.

oh god
THE NOSTALGIAAAAA
Biggest disappointment in the history of gaming.
ITT half of the posts will be "biggest dissapointment"
Most of the stages are too easy as well.
The cell stage is the only one with any significant challenge, but it's also the only one where you can't die permanently, meaning there's not much of an incentive to stay alive. You also spawn near the place you died, letting you re-fight the battle you lost.
The creature stage was more time-consuming than difficult and it really just felt like a chore having to walk around to all the different nests, and it felt pointless to make friends and enemies for anything other than changing your philosophy in the space stage.
The tribal stage was my favorite, since it had you carefully managing your food stockpiles as well as keeping your army ready for an attack AND defense, something that became especially vital later on.
The civilization stage was dumbed down WAAAY too much. It feels like a child could beat it. I often play on Easy in some of the more difficult RTS games, but I could beat this on Hard. The enemy just pelts units at you randomly and if you got enough spice geysers early on, you can most likely just keep replacing the (overpowered) turrets.
And the space stage was beyond disappointing. The diplomacy rapidly became "Do I want to piss them off or not", like in the Civ stage, and you can take a homeworld just using bombs and circle-strafing above cities. If it wasn't for the attacks in the galaxy map when you're in enemy territory, I'd own all the Grox territory by now. It was pretty fun designing ships and terraforming penises though.
Tribal stage could have been so much more. I fucking hate you, Will Wright, and your facepuncher son.

It wasn't Will Wright's son. In fact I'm not sure if it was even a Maxis employee's son, but there was indeed a thread showing off the Creature Creator. Funtimes.
Anyone find watching any documentary on Space make them want to play Spore again?
I have to say, I go through phases where I can't be bothered with Spore and phases where I can't stop playing. Galactic adventures does make it a LOT more fun. I love making Adventures. It's actually suprisingly flexible as to what you can achieve with it, and you can go surprisingly deep with making "Societies" and "Cultures" using it.

It may not be what I expected but it's still a lot of fun.
It should have been longer.
I had very high anticipations for spore after seeing the 05 demo. The game depressed me to no end.
Don't say "huur no replay value" if you've not played Galactic Adventures. There are so many things to do, adventures to download and make and more possibilities for great creations because you can implement them in any adventure you create. Amazing.
spore was a disappointment
i had fun with it when it came out but it wasn't what i was expecting
and occasionally i get an urge to reinstall it but then i look back at what it could have been and it seems too much of a disappointment to bother with
