Disregard L4D2 we all know it sucked
It didn't. Stop either being on the bandwagon, or stop being such an assclown.
There is no support to say EP3 or HL3 will be the next game. But EP3 certainly wouldn't be, since a 4 hour game would be like a massive "fuck off" to HL fans. And TF2 was originally supposed to be a military styled game, things chance. Whose to say EP3 would be next after so many years of being on hold?
Gabe and Robin have said it themselves, Episode 3 will be the final piece of episodic content and wrap up the whole arc. I don't remember who it was but one of the devs (I think it was Gabe anyway) said in an interview that the Episodes WERE Half-Life 3, and instead of making it a full game, they made it in episodes. I believe the person speaking was referring to how they shouldn't have tacked "Half-Life 2" onto the game. They haven't said that there won't be a Half-Life 3, they just said that Episode 3 will finish off the current storyline. Of course it's going to be longer than the other episodes, there has to be a lot more content for them to put into it, meaning no shit, it's going to take longer. I quote Doug Lombardi in an interview: "Yeah, the next time you play as Gordon will be longer than the distance between HL2 to Ep1, and Ep1 to Ep2. "(http://archive.videogamesdaily.com/features/valve-doug-lombardi-left-4-dead-interview-p3.asp)
It was that a more proper title would have been Half-Life 3: Episode One etc. I believe. Though the HL2 titling system works fine too since it takes place in the HL2 era and has HL2 characters. The gap between HL1 and HL2 was much larger so it's probably better for consistency that they are called HL2 eps.
Yeah I sort of miss the old days. I remember coming home to 56k internet and getting excited to go online to play Half Life 2 because I couldn't due to steams offline mode. I miss that excitement. I remember how amazing it was when I got broadband and a whole new world opened up
Well, COD games are rushed and are really bad. Valve actually puts some effort into their games.
Have you played Left 4 Dead 2 whoops i'm late
[img_thumb]http://i879.photobucket.com/albums/ab359/hitimania01/Left-4-Dead-2.jpg[/img_thumb]
Because games from the Half-Life series never had launch day bugs and stuff. Seriously i think we can get spoiled from all of those bugfix updates.
The way I see it, valve is overhauling the engine which is causing the delay. Portal 2 definitely looks improved so I can only imagine what they're doing for ep3. We know they're at least working on ep3 because of the accidental leaks of ep3 stuff in sdk updates.
accidental leaks of ep3 stuff
:mmmhmm: Yeah keep thinking that
l4d2 doesn't suck. it's just very very unpolished. KINDA LIKE TEAM FORTRESS 2
I believe unoptimized is the word you're looking for.
l4d2 doesn't suck. it's just very very unpolished. KINDA LIKE TEAM FORTRESS 2
TF2 was originally extremely polished, it's just the latest updates are like dragging the polished object through a muddy field.
They've obviously scrapped episodic content. [editline]9th December 2010[/editline] A full COD game gets released every year, where as valve can't even release an episode every 2 years
Because COD6 was so good.
Well, COD games are rushed and are really bad. Valve actually puts some effort into their games.
They aren't though. COD games despite having repetitive and bland game play are infact extremely well done and polished. There are rarely any bugs in the campaign. The HL episodes are just as bad as the new COD games. It's the same weapons we've been using forever, maybe 2 new enemies, a few scripted sequences and get this - physics prop puzzles! ~:obama:> Haven't seen them before!
They aren't though. COD games despite having repetitive and bland game play are infact extremely well done and polished. There are rarely any bugs in the campaign.
they're basically a well-oiled money printing machine
Gabe Newell himself stated that the next installment will be Ep3 not HL3, he said if and when they develop HL3 it will not follow the current story arc (akin to HL2 being based around City17 and not Black Mesa) so we are waiting for EP3 which will conclude the current story arc (its characters and settings), what happens after that for the Half-Life series... well I guess we will have to wait to find out.
Fuck, I will be old when they decide to announce or even release HL3.
Left 4 Dead 2 was a superb game on its own. It's just that compared to other Valve games, it is bad. But only in comparison. But regardless... I am almost positive that what Valve is doing is telling us shit on Episode 3, and then releasing it in a big surprise. I'm sure they know it's their biggest game yet. They WANT you to be hyped.
Well, COD games are rushed and are really bad. Valve actually puts some effort into their games.
for the gameplay and story, i totaly agree. but l4d2 and tf2 is filled with valve lazy models/animations/textures
It didn't. Stop either being on the bandwagon, or stop being such an assclown.
It sucked compared to other Valve games. Fact. No pistol running animation, half-assed uzi animation (the belt thing), again no cool story moments etc.
It didn't. Stop either being on the bandwagon, or stop being such an assclown.
I love it when people say someone is on a bandwagon just because they think a game sucks. Really, compare L4D2 to L4D1. Do not use amount of content as a main focus. Think quality over quantity.

Valve have always been known for setting the bar when it comes to game development. They recently set the bar especially with their new mass AI systems in alien swarm and the l4d series. Hopefully next will be gaming entirely once again.
one thing i don't understand at all is that why this will be called episode 3 it's full-length valve does understand the concept of episodes should be renamed imo
TF2 was originally extremely polished, it's just the latest updates are like dragging the polished object through a muddy field.
I actually think TFC and the Fortress Forever mod are the most polished of the whole series. Things are a ton more fast paced and everything blends very smoothly in terms of gameplay. Not saying tf2 is horrid, but things are very slow(unless your the scout), gameplay is very rigid and hard to get into, and generally the flow just really isn't there that much anymore. Generally also with game environments such as tf2s as well it feels like it really needs to be very twitch-based combat. But I guess alot of people like the contrary. [editline]9th December 2010[/editline]
one thing i don't understand at all is that why this will be called episode 3 it's full-length valve does understand the concept of episodes should be renamed imo
It probably won't be "episode 3" anymore. Hell, maybe valve will pull a wildcard on the series.
I actually think TFC and the Fortress Forever mod are the most polished of the whole series.
Fortress Forever wasn't made by Valve.
So are you expecting a full game, or a 4 hour episode.
I'm expecting a full game thats cleverly titled Ep3.
Valve have always been known for setting the bar when it comes to game development.
Fortress Forever wasn't made by Valve.
I know, that's why I say "mod". Still, the game was mainly inspired by the spirit of TFC. So it's basically as if TFC had a direct sequel. [editline]9th December 2010[/editline]
Alien swarm didn't use the same AI system that L4D did, it used the old system, just pimped out a little.
Well, mostly the same. Allows alot of cpu-driven carnage on the screen without fps drop.
I see no quality shift. I see a style and pacing shift, but no quality shift.
Shitty stiff reload anims. Really lazily put together vocalization system. Do you have ANY idea how many lines are unused by both the L4D2 cast and L4D1 cast? The fact Valve can't seem to give Zoey a decent playermodel without making her look like a man. Oh, and how could you have not been disappointed at Dead Center's mall? I was expecting it to be more like Dead Before Dawn's mall. Lively with an announcer and TV's, open shops so you can go in a look at the little things people love, "detail." But instead it's just a huge quiet dark wasteland, and that's very boring. Oh, and Rochelle. I'm not even bandwagoning here because I don't really care for her. She's the only Valve character EVER to be commonly known for being disliked. This is just pure fact, unfortunately. But kudos to everyone out there who does like her. Yeah, all together, it's still fun to play with friends and whatnot. But it just aggravates me knowing how much better Valve could've done, but they just didn't.
