Portal 2 takes place 200 years after the events of Half Life 2.
:wtc:
The Half Life series is one of the best FPS games I have ever played in my entire life. I would put it before COD any day.
Ignore The Combine, he hates everything.
Nah I'm not disappointed at Half-life or whatever..
I remember Half-life 1, great game. Then, half-life 2, keeping it very relative to the Half-life 1 (the weapon slots and sounds, awesomeness) and it was just plain gorgeous.
But now these Episodes.. I'm not sure. I liked them, especially EP2 it was awesome to fight against Hunters and shit, but I'm still gonna go ahead and say Fuck episode 3, I want Half-life 3
EP3 Will be HL3, but it will be called EP3.

wat
they kinda forgot about episode three and they are working on other proyects (portal, left 4 dead etc...)
however i hope they are working hard on it
EP3 Will be HL3, but it will be called EP3.
Oh okay, so; Half-Life, Half-life 2, Half-life 2: Episodes, Half-life 4?
No. The next new Half-life will be Half-life 3, no amount of Half-life 2 episodes can change that.
[editline]11th December 2010[/editline]
So, fuck episode 3 already, I want a full new Half-life 3!
Oh okay, so; Half-Life, Half-life 2, Half-life 2: Episodes, Half-life 4?

oh my god i'm so sorry, i didn't know you didn't know how to read
Half-Life 2: Episode 3 is going to be Half-Life 2: Episode 3. Half-Life 3 will be Half-Life 3. They are different games and Valve has said they regret not just making the episodes into a full game because they have claimed that if they were combined they would make a perfectly fine HL3. That does not mean that they are considering the episodes to ACTUALLY be Half-Life 3.
valve didn't make poker night
Which means, they spent the last 3 years putting heavy in it, which means we will wait for something worse.
The storyline for it sucked, in my opinion, i liked all of the dlc that they're adding, but the process of porting the L4D1 maps into L4D2 seems stupid to me.......the only pro of that is that the L4D1 characters can use melee weapons...........i think that that kills the overall playing enjoyment for me. But, i like The Sacrifice and The Passing add-ons.......only because it has all of the characters....minus bill T. T
An addition to this is a reply to Raptortheawesom's reply.
Now HL2DM is filled with hacking newfags who don't know how to play right. And, Gmod was always awesome.
That is all
who the fuck plays left 4 dead for its story? the game has little story and that is pretty much 'get the fuck out of this place alive'. I don't think an actual storyline would've been fun in left 4 dead
why is porting maps from l4d1 to l4d2 stupid? I really don't get it, it's free content and you're complaining about it.
and please stop making those long line breaks
thanks
Valve needs to stop wasting there time on EP:3 (if they are working on it) and actually create something interesting.
In my opinion.
The Half-Life series is Valve's crowning jewel, and one of the best series' ever made. So no.

If you think and look and think to look, you'll find a deep storyline surrounding the Green Flu and the humans fighting it.
Its true, HL2 couldnt be more generic.
actually half-life 2 almost made that kind of game genre
I'm hoping half life 2 episode 2 will be as long as half life 2.
I've always loved how Half Life doesn't use cheap "Jump cut" like parts in the middle of the game (for example COD: NOW WE'RE IN AFRICA, NOPE WAIT NOW YOU'RE IN RUSSIA, YOU TOOK A PLANE) each play through is one fluid motion, you go from City 17 to the Canals, the canals to Ravenholme. Really gives you feel of an epic story.

Indeed. Half-Life 2 is proof that a game can have immense variety, and still be grounded realistically in terms of story. If you take a look at MW2, it seems as if Infinity Ward came up with a list of cool scenarios and areas, and added the story in later, to bridge the gaps sort of.

It's funny because your name is "The Combine"

Your name is Roach, go do this stuff.
Oh, you got shot, lets just change characters.
It's probably more of a golden age just because of nostalgia. Everything seems cooler when you're younger.

Your name is Strielok, go do this stuff.
Your name is Max, go do this stuff. Oh, you are stuck, let's just change to Sam.
You just described every possible fucking game.
Right now valve is doing horribly compared to their previous status. Latest DLC's for L4D1/2 sucked. It seems that they don't understand what game style is any more. They completely broke TF2's orginal art with all their shitty-styled hats (parasites, halos) and now TF2 looks like some half-assed piece of software. Even gameplay balance is questionable.
I still have huge hopes for Portal 2, and I really hope that next Half Life is going to break world of video games, again.
TF2 still rocks and wasnt ruined at all.
TF2 still rocks and wasnt ruined at all.
Opinions.
If I compare the quality of Tf2 two years ago to now...I mean, lods a halfarsed hats, dumb community shit, gimicky stuff for buying shitty games. I'd say the quality has decreased
I don't understand all the QQing about TF2. If you don't like hats... DON'T WEAR THEM. The same goes for the Mann store.
TF2 is still one of the best multiplayer games around.
i remember discovering half life than counter strike
i used to play counter strike for hours
i miss those days when i didn't care as much about the shitty graphics
[editline]11th December 2010[/editline]
now i can't play 1.6 for shit because i grew too used to source

Maybe HL is Gabe's Sherlock Holmes
Explanation: Conan Doyle made Sherlock Holmes and was very famous for it, but he didn't wanted to be only known because of Sherlock, so he KILLED him!(And somehow he then revived him)

instead of balancing weapon fixes, they just add new hats/paint/crates
The first time I played Half Life was via a demo on one of the disks in the OPSM2 magazine as a curious 4-5 year old, I remember getting scared by one of the zombies sneaking up on me and turning off my PS2 :saddowns:
Games just don't have the same effect on you as they did 5-10 years ago, I always go back for a playthrough of all the Half Life games at least once a year because they're so wonderfully crafted and I have a lot of memories with them. You don't get that anymore :smith:

Seconded.
Agreed. The Half-Life series, especially Half-Life 2, is a masterpiece in storytelling. I personally consider Point Insertion to be one of gaming's finest creations. Ever.
The Half-Life series is one of the only games nowadays that actually focuses more on story and gameplay, rather than most games focusing on asstons of effects.
I hope someone has a good playthough HD video after it comes out because I won't be able to get it :saddowns:
