Friend of mine recently started hosting a server for my buds and myself, one of my friends starts building a mob farm tower. For some reason, he starts with the top floor first. Result: a monolithic construction that shits monsters that then fall to their death on a platform below.

It would probably run much more efficiently in C++ or something if he's not a bad programmer, but you can't just say "oh let's switch programming languages" in the middle of development, and it would probably need to be re-tweaked to work on Mac OS X and Linux, since Java is binary-compatible across platforms that have a runtime environment available and C++ isn't. :v:

Definitely would, the API to create a Window and get an OpenGL context is the same across platforms for Java, but it isn't if you go the native route. On Windows you have Win32 and WGL, on OS X you have Cocoa and CGL and on Linux you have X11 and GLX or EGL (which you might also have on Windows)

And you have no guarantee that your code will run faster, especially if it's designed to execute in the Java VM.

Fuck me...I just spent an hour building a wood cabin and the game crashes and it fucking disappears. This is like the 3rd time this has happened to me in the past week. Notch really needs to fix this crashing bs.

The only time that I've ever crashed was when I placed 3 stacks of TNT and set it off at once
