So here's my latest adventure.

I go to The Nether with my flying boat mod. Whee.
Fuck where'd my portal go. Oh well I've got obsidian let's make another one.
Oh great, middle of nowhere. Fucccccccccck. Let' go fly home.

three ingame days and a ton of biomes later

It started out as 5.12mb.

IT ENDED AT 26.59.

I died from a creeper, then tried to get back to the little cave I dug in and had three goddamn creepers following me. I just moved towards them until one exploded, I lost half my health but they all died. Goddamn I hate them.

I died a criminal's death.

After my tunnels leading from the bottom of everyone's bases to my safehouse was discovered, I was forced to run day and night into the wilderness. Eventually I started digging holes in the ground, just big enough to fit me. One day I got curious, and began to dig around my hole (keep in mind, I plugged the exit). Apparently I hadn't lit my cave well enough, for a creeper spawned, and with a single explosion, all the spoils I had on that server were lost in the ground.

Obsidian is a dick.
I was just minding my own business, creating traps in which the local wildlife would die a death filled with pain and fire, when suddenly I accidentally place one water block right above my lava.
BOOM 15 minutes of mining obsidian.

I really wish the Nether was more interesting. I mean, there's only 3 unique blocks and 2 types of mobs. There is no real point to go there. Its a shame.
