This is hideous.
I'll just say this again in nice bold and underlined text so everybody will read it okay VALVE ARE ADDING AN OPTION TO DISABLE COSMETIC ITEMS. THERE IS A CONSOLE COMMAND TO DO THIS.

Sorry Coon/Tetra/Green/Ownage/Snow/Glub I think I'm going to be playing Drow a lot.
More than you already do :v:

yeah but you cant disable a horrible community that only wants to trade cosmetic items.
This explains why the store took awhile - Valve needed time to create models for a good deal of the heroes coming out.
Jesus Christ, they better have the option to disable cosmetics. This is hideous.
It could go for some fine-tuning, and I was personally hoping for something more along Windrunner's cosmetics, but it's not necessarily a bad idea. This is certainly 10x more fitting than Cowboy Ursa anyway.
More than you already do :v:
Shhhh.

Hopefully I won't get trade requests in the middle of a gank from the guy I'm ganking for my vintage Drow's butch haircut.
yeah but you cant disable a horrible community that only wants to trade cosmetic items.
you're extremely dumb
Exactly, the model is so bad you can't tell if he's a cowboy or a fan of Octoberfest!
And that part of the horrible community will just have their own chat rooms to do it. Pretty much nothing to worry about. If some idiot pauses the game to trade, just report, unpause and let him learn.
Fixed. But yeah, seeing as how SMNC hasn't been as overrun by traders as I thought it would be, I doubt DOTA2 will. I mean, do you see people trading items in Portal 2? :P
you're extremely dumb
trading vintage cowboy ursa for juggernaut giant dragon dildo sword vintage only plz!!!
yeah but you cant disable a horrible community that only wants to trade cosmetic items.
Since I doubt that people will seriously trade during a match, I expect trading to be kept to the chat channels and thus easily avoidable. Also the item screen shots are close-ups and don't show how it looks from a top-down view. Obviously the items are going to have a little lower texture resolution and polycount since you're looking at them from 30 feet above and not close-up.
trading vintage cowboy ursa for juggernaut giant dragon dildo sword vintage only plz!!!
this never happens and will never happen in matches
No test build today. Tomorrow we get big update in test. Can't wait.
this never happens and will never happen in matches
yeah that trade is really unfair edit: just checked the spreadsheets
yeah that trade is really unfair edit: just checked the spreadsheets
yeah vintage dragon dildos are worth ATLEAST 5 juggernaut heads.
yeah vintage dragon dildos are worth ATLEAST 5 juggernaut heads.
You would know?
Realistically speaking, there's three major reasons why TF2 has such an overwhelming item economy: -The atmosphere is much more casual. -Trading is a huge priority because it is a much greater time investment than gameplay. -The gameplay isn't nearly as intensive as DOTA 2. Seriously, TF2 becomes very straightforward after a few playthroughs. While that's not to say that TF2 is bland, the gameplay isn't nearly as challenging nor diverse as games like DOTA. In an average TF2 match, the skill gap is much smaller, there is much less diversity between enemy units, and the diversity between unit loadouts is pretty minimal. That means a lot of gameplay focus can be lost on economic-based activities such as unit specialization, gameplay mini-games, and even map support. Because of the inviting atmosphere of TF2, you receive a huge amount of casual players who want to partake in a little bit of everything but don't want to actually invest time in becoming good at TF2. Meanwhile, DOTA 2 has a very steep learning curve. Players who are going to buy cosmetics probably have a fair amount of time and skill invested in the game. While many traders also behave the same way for TF2, the fact that DOTA demands such will seriously cut down the amount of people bumbling around for trades. Plus, DOTA is going to have a HUGE amount of items per each hero. Having too many choices hurts an economy just as much as too little.
Jesus Christ, they better have the option to disable cosmetics. This is hideous.
I will email the cosmetics makers and ask them if they can make Wind Runner like this ;)
Honestly they should just keep up the "Drow Ranger the forest dweller" image. It's much more fitting for her character, and we have enough frost-based heroes as is. However, I don't really mind her new cosmetics as long as there's a bit of tweaking.
So the item shop is basically confirmed for tomorrow than? That or two heroes?
Where did you read that?
So the item shop is basically confirmed for tomorrow than? That or two heroes?
Yes and maybe. Cyborgmatt guessed CK and it's obvious it's going to be PA.
Where did you read that?
http://dev.dota2.com/forum.php
Can I point out the fact that TF2 trading is also extremely rampant due to the fact weapons are tradable? Actual gameplay changing items? This is just cosmetics, as far as I know there won't be crafting(so there won't be any 1 refined-radiant crystal for any craft item) and we don't even know if there will be the equivalents of unusuals. Creator Gifted items however...*stares at certain people*
Also the power of DOTA cosmetics is very miniscule compared to TF2.
Another thing: Since trading was added in SMNC, I haven't seen anyone ask for trades actually in a match. The game is just as unforgiving as DOTA2, so the "hoarders" who aren't actually interested in the game will be scared off IMO.
