I died a little inside, I just don't understand the point of spending as much effort as they obviously do coming up with amazing concept art and character designs....and then stick what looks like a cowboy hat on Ursa or make drow look something like a lesbian dungeon master. Why waste all that time with top notch character design?
I seriously had this hope that with dota2 they would just make fitting alternative equipment, surely not that hard right? I mean its pretty much the top complaint about TF2's cosmetics that they destroyed the look and feel of the game.... *sigh*
Well, when the items are released we can always post in the dev forum to say what we don't like.

This is the wrong way of looking at it though
Most people want to see themselves look different rather than show everyone else they're different.
As an anecdote I traded for a Stormy Storm Mullet in TF2 when I could have got much more, and the general consensus is that spy unusuals suck compared to others since you can't see them when disguised, but I got it anyway cause I like how it looks and when painted gray it looks like wet hair in a storm. I could have got a better hat to show off to people but I got what I want instead of showing off how much I have.

Played my first game as Viper, also my first game as a hard carry. Went 10-5-9 and had the highest GPM and XPM. :D

Good job genius, i know it's there. That's what we are arguing about. I still stand behind what i said. There's no way it's going to do anything once the cosmetics are out. People buy cosmetics to show off their e-peen. Now if half the people couldn't even see their shitty cosmetics, they are less likely to buy them.
one thing that i see differently then tf2s method is that all they got is cosmetics and those cosmetics have a higher drop rate then tf2 so therefore the values in dota 2 and tf2 will be different

You still stand behind that they aren't implementing the ability to turn off cosmetics? It's already in there unless you're talking about a button in the options menu.

One thing I've never seen been brought up is how easily modded [i]all[/i] of Valve's games are. If you don't like any particular set then it will be incredibly easy to replace it. We just need to wait for the game to come out (either launch or open beta) so everyone has access to it and we can update the (de)compilers. It won't be an issue once things pick up.
I think there's maybe 1 or 2 sets which don't fit. In my opinion everything else looks nice.

in lol there is only one part of the skin but in dota 2 its interchangeable. i dont know about hon though
Damnit valve, I hope you are happy with the fact that I and probably others will most likely be disabling ALL cosmetics just because of a few bad eggs.
Maybe they could add disabler items you could buy? 2x disabler, disable 2 items of your choice, or 10x disabler. I wouldn't disable all cosmetics if I could just disable ursa's hat, tides hat, drows outfit etc.

I say give it two months after launch and someone will have updated the (de)compilers and we'll see the first cosmetics mod. And then from there you can extremely easily mod absolutely any and every cosmetic you want to be invisible and it will be as easy as fucking hell.

*shrug* It's a fairly big feature that I was looking forward to seeing how it would turn out. It obviously didn't turn out how I had hoped. I most likely will still be participating in the workshop and submitting stuff however.
Realistically however people still moan about TF2, and mainly due to feeling it's art was ruined. I seriously hoped things would be different, and I honestly would rather not feel the need to turn off all cosmetics. I'm not alone either, quite the fuss on dota dev as well.

I don't see how this is the most horrible thing to happen since ever. 99% of what they have in the shop is perfectly fine as far as something that flows with the aesthetics of the game. The weirdest thing is the Ursa outfit, which [I]still[/I] doesn't make extreme changes to his silhouette or color. Literally nothing has been ruined, it's just people freaking out because they have a stick up their ass about what [I]they[/I] think Dota 2 should be like.
