Love it how Axe has this line, would laugh if he actually says so when PL kills him.
You sure ? They were affected by my Aquila aura, so why not others ?
they carry the auras but they dont get the benefits from most of them. idk if basilus and aquila are exceptions but i doubt it
[editline]3rd May 2012[/editline]
yeah nah only auras based on endurance aura from ladder are bestowed on illusions, basilus and aquila dont convey their benefits to illusions
Saw someone getting an "unknown item" in the full client today... Wonder what that was.

Look way better than the last one.
What's the point to changing the visuals on the characters over&over? It's just an art flick, they should concentrate their efforts on something more productive. Like hats.
[sp]not really[/sp]

Fine tuning ?
People liked previous icons too, but Valve felt like they can do better job in order to polish their product more.
You know, continuously working on game, not just publishing it.

"You bastards blew up my roof!"
Yeah, everything is cosmetic. New pieces of clothing, taunts, custom couriers, just extra stuff that doesn't affect gameplay.
I think the only gameplay-affecting item is that one that removes you from low priority matchmaking.
But I can work myself up/down the matchmaking by just playing, though?
And these cosmetic items, they are accessible for free as well by just playing the game, right?
so only cosmetic items (like skins from league)
Why skins from League?
Why not skins BY Valve?

Well by the looks of things it's gonna work like TF2, items drop for everyone and things like keys, tools etc are purchase-only.
Does matchmaking go by wins, or some unseen skill rating? Cause in my games everyone is at least 50+ wins if not 100+ when I only have 28 wins. I don't feel like I'm being stomped/stomping, I just want to know if I'm good for my wins or if they're just really bad.

Wow try reading the post again
Would you really think that they would somehow take skins from league and then somehow put them on dota heroes?
[editline]3rd May 2012[/editline]
And the cosmetic items right now seem to definitely be hats so far, there's probably more.

Sure, 8 slots for each hero with just hats. It's not probable, it's certain.
Every characteristic piece of apparel is likely going to be changeable.
Shoulderpads, belts, weapons, masks, shoes, cloaks, gloves, fake moustaches, warpaint, ...
The list goes on. Hats of course will be on top of it, but that's just Valve.
Had a horrible day with Dota today, keep running into rude faggots, russians mostly.

I also have to hide the fact that I'm russian so people wouldn't bother me.

If people preemptively ask whether there are Russian people in game, they are on their way to becoming rusophobes and it's as healthy as is racism.
If people ask about one's nationality after seeing him perform poorly, they are on their way to nationalism, as they already treat one nation as inferior, why not treat their own as superior then ? Last time we had to deal with massive kind of nationalism wasn't nice, was it now ?
If people shut up and just stick to natural complaining / cheering when one plays badly / well, then it's all good and healthy.
If people shut up with this kind of talk completely and instead perform friendly discussions with a mix of friendly trashtalk with purpose of fun and creating enjoyable mood, then write down their names and commend them. They make game even more fun than it already is.

That's why Dota is most fun with friends.
* About nationalism and racism, don't think I am talking about WW3 starting with Dota 2 and hatred towards Russians. I am talking about local growths, cancerous stereotypes that stick in given game's community and are very hard to get rid of. Think younger kids using microphone in CS or campers in many other shooters. That hatred, come to think of it, is unreasonable and mostly fueled by enviroment and community, both of which contributed by "letting it go" , i.e. not doing anything when fixed way of perceiving things grew to a point where prejudice is normal.
so, is echo slam working on illusions or just phantom illusions or what
I'm pretty sure they're affected, I was skimming through a guide and it was talking about earthshaker.
Remember the difference between Russian and Ruskies?
Not gonna post it again, since it was a few pages back anyways.
But I find it funny how all the baddies I tend to get on with are in fact inhabitants of Russia, for example:
Lion who's skillbuild was Manadrain, stats and ult. None, and I literally mean NONE on his other spells. He was also attempting to get an refresher, but got stuck at quarterstaff, boots1 and robe of the magi. After a while of feeding in lane, he started dropping all the "cykacyka, balalaika" stuff on the chat all the time, when I advice him to rank Q --> "STFU STUPIT AMERICAN I REPORT YU!!"
It's not really racism or a stereotype if it's true. Most russians I meet are bunch of dimwits, but of course, not all. Just most of them.
Here's a thinker :
Most of the attitude people show nowadays in Dota 2 towards Russian is rather fixed one : aversion, until proved otherwise.
If there is plenty of Russian players in the community, why would they even bother with fixing this state. Sure, even among them there are flamewars and shittalk, but it's not instant and unreasonable, thus players who fit current "stereotype" of Dota 2 Russian stick to their behaviour, because they can just turn to their comrades, while other Russian players, I dare say normal ones, either conceal their identity, side with people hating the "stereotypes" or defend their kin.
Perpetum mobile I dare say. Some Russians play bad and behave in a hostile manner, people call Russians bad, Russian's either don't do anything (i.e. don't fix this), don't want to take part in this and stay hidden (i.e. don't fix this), defend their kin (i.e. don't fix this and "prove" people that all Russians are together in this) or respond with a retort people except, i.e. hostile manner.
The thing is, it can happen to any damn nation and I have yet to see people try to fix this. Not just in Dota, any game.
Sorry I am tackling this problem, I just find it interesting, though still of fecies level.
I still have that russian name pasted somewhere. People then assume I'll suck but then I don't and hopefully they'll have a brigher outlook on russians everywhere.

It's a lovely division, but I barely see people incorporating it.
I hope Valve releases some Community tools for testing soon. I'd love to do something about phsychological/social aspect of Dota, but right now I am tech-limited and hoping that Valve makes something for these purposes.

can't wait for the update
Fuck me, it just hit me.
Rather god damn easy thing to do, I don't need much tools, just some agreements and barely any time.
You know DotaCinema videos ? Their guides and hero previews are of rather good quality, I can speak Russian, so maybe I could ask them whether I could create voiceover in Russian and they would upload those versions to help that part of Russian Dota 2 community that isn't playing well.
Sure, there probably are many Dota 2 related Russian channels on Youtube, but making DotaCinema take part in this :
- makes it rather easy to spot, as Dota 2 wiki and a lot of other sites link to them
- makes this look like combined effort, as they are primarly English speaking community, which offers Russian version for those of other communities.
Critique ?
[editline]3rd May 2012[/editline]
Hell, maybe not voiceover. Maybe just ask Sunsfan if he would like to read script in other languages ?
I do realise this doesn't help in making "Ruskies" use more english in a multinational enviroment which is Dota, but 1 step at a time.

I don't really think russians are terrible players, more like very rude and offensive generally. But still, call me if you need any help.
