Are people actually excited for the thing that killed tf2?
If by "killed" you mean currently the top played game on Steam right now, then ok.
I still don't understand the idea that hats ruined TF2. I can still play the game and none of that stuff matters to me.
I actually find TF2's hats to be fun, trading can be an amusing side-hobby and the player customization makes you feel more unique.
If they were adding the shop, wouldn't there be some kind of hint in the test client's files?
I mean, isn't the interface for it still completely unfinished and aren't there only a few items for a few heroes?
Yesterday's Test Client update actually updated quite a good chunk of the store related stuff, lots of strings in specific.
For me it wasn't the fact that there was hats that killed it for me. It's just that many of the paints, hats, and items don't fit in the TF2 art style.
If Valve will just make every item fit the Dota2 art style then there will be nothing wrong with it.
I think that Dota 2's system is going to work out very well, however, I'll be very disappointed in Valve if we have to pay for a whole hero; Skins, and aesthetics are all right.
Valve won't make us pay for a hero, they won't do that in any of their game.
In TF2 for example, as soon as one weapon with gameplay changes (even just a stock rocket launcher that fires from a slightly different angle !) gets released, they make it available without having to pay anything. Even if it's a promotional item for another game.
Valve will stay for cosmetics on Dota 2, you can trust them on that.

I believe IceFrog has said that they're not planning on selling heroes, and that all sold items will be purely cosmetic.
Here it comes.
For the people that missed the shop related stuff from yesterday.

I don't know, I liked tf2 hats because I got to make a profit off of it. As long as the cosmetics aren't out of place in dota then I won't really care.
Cosmetic differences fitting to the art style and don't make heroes unidentifiable would be fine. TF2 cosmetics kinda went overboard in terms of not fitting the art style and ruining silhouettes and such, which is what most people don't want to have happen to Dota 2.
Honestly, because I'm so invested in playing Dota 2, I'm looking forward to cosmetics. :v:

I don't care how many hats he's wearing, you're not going to mistake a Demoman.
I just want my Anti Mage to have fucking pony wings and there's nothing wrong with that. :v:

Just noticed the new role icons.
Initiator icon should be a sword going through the front or a guy that looks like he's leading a charge
My dota 2 is updating.
Too bad I can't play the update until tomorrow.
That was a lot faster than I expected, I have a lot less hopes of seeing something new now.
I'm glad there isn't a new hero this week too. At a playoff basketball game tonight.
i want an option to disable cosmetics on my screen just so nothing distracting distracts me.

They'll probably add that later on. I'm pretty sure a lot of dota players transferring over wouldn't want cosmetics.

There is(as i've said a lot of times) a console command to do this. Cyborgmatt/someone found it in a test patch update a few weeks ago.
Is Dota 2 buggy for anyone else right now? It won't let me search for games and my name is apparently "playername" now with 99 wins losses and abandons?
Dota 2 is updating.

Just wait a while or restart steam then it should work.
Verify game files.
If anything, drops and hats only can benefit TF2.
Mostly Gabe's pocket.
Why do people generalize "hats" either into a good or a bad thing?
The new additions and perma-items are fine if they actually look like they belonged in the game and the universe. Also preferably made by Valve themselves because they know best, not the community.
I already downloaded the update, I even launched the game and it worked fine and had the new beastmaster model, etc, got a match but it locked up at 8/10 so I restarted Dota 2 and it broke.
Usually it takes a while for the servers to stabilize.

Pssh. Who needs actual sports when you have E-sports?
When its the 99wins,etc. It's more likely server side than client side.
[editline]10th May 2012[/editline]
automerge
Now we just need a blog update to hint at the coming weeks hero...
Pssh. Who needs actual sports when you have E-sports?
When it's free. :v:

I don't know about you, but the thing that I like the most in a game is the atmosphere, I often pay more attention to it than to elements like gameplay. Now, what happened with TF2 is that the whole atmosphere of the game was ruined, because of things like Scouts that you see walking around with a pink hat, blue boots and a huge medal on their chests, it simply feels out of place. It's like if you were watching Titanic, when suddenly, all the characters turn to the stage and Adam Sandler is there telling silly jokes, it simply ruins the tone that was set through the entire movie.
Now, it's not all about aesthetics: there are countless ridiculous weapons, too. Heavies can run around really fast and have as much range as the sniper, while scouts now have thousands of hp and can jump around like monkeys. Not only does that make the game hard to balance, it also makes it hard to play, because if you stay away from it for a week, you won't even keep track of what's in the game, or what those things do.
Basically, it changed the game entirely. I bought it because it had an unique theme, with defined classes and simple gameplay, and what I have now is a game where I can't know who is who and what is what.
Where is the blog update...I want the next hero to be hinted at dammit.
