I believe there is a linux version. Check the sourceforge download page
http://sourceforge.net/projects/crawl-ref/files/
Scroll to bottom and expand 0.5.1
And you can always just play the game over an SSH session.
Ah awesome, thankyou.
Really quickly, what's sneak ( if there is one ) and when choosing a class, if it's greyed out does it mean you're better or worse at it?
It means you can't be it.

Also, how do you sneak? I always get seen instantly by monsters.

Sneak is automatic, your character will train the skill if he/she is wearing light armor (Robe, Cloak, Leather Armor(Check the armor description in the inventory it will tell you if it is light enough to train sneak)). There is no button to sneak, think of it more as how quiet you move. The higher the sneak, the more you will encounter sleeping animals/wandering animals, if you attack them without them seeing you, you get a big damage bonus.
Greyed out class means the Race you have selected can't become that Class.

Halflings can't be thieves?!
Halflings can't be thieves?!
You don't want to be a thief, they are a challenge class (really fucking hard).
Be an assassin, same thing pretty much but you get a +1 +3 dagger and a blowgun with poison darts.
Yeh, assassin is much better.
How does one choose gods?
How does one choose gods?
Some Race/Class combinations will already follow a god when you start the game, for others you will need to find a shrine in game, normally 4-5 levels down until you see one. Just go to the altar and press p to pray, you will get info on the god and be asked if you would like to follow it.
Be careful about what God you pick.
I think I'm going to try a Vampire/Assassin mix.
I think I'm going to try a Vampire/Assassin mix.
Vampire's are a pretty tricky race just because when they are full of blood they have different advantages and disadvantages than when they are bloodless.
I was watching someone own the shit out of everything as a vampire though a few days back. That's the good thing about going online, can watch others.
We need an IVAN thread now.
Damn. Wizards are fun, but I died because a spell miscast and used up ALL my mana. "Adventurer Punjon killed level 5 by an orc wizard". Took out 3-4 orcs and 3 jackals though.

I found the entrance to the Orcish Mines, which were surrounded by dozens of orcs of all sorts. I killed off most of them, including an orc warrior which I killed after losing half my health, but then another orc warrior appeared with steel plate armour and a huge battleaxe which cut me down very easily.

Yeah sometimes it's best to just avoid them if you have a weaker character
It's so hard not to become bloodless, you can only gather it at level 6. Is there any other way to get it?

I would have, but they were at the entrance, the surroundings of the stairs leading to the mines were filled to the brim with them. I never took a step in the mines, because they were all around the entrance to them.
I was playing as a ghoul, ate some delicious rotten humans but then I got a teleport ring that put zapped me between a group of orcs, 2 trolls , a bunch of bats, and a lot of jackals. And a snake too.
So yeah I was dead.
I spawned and was trapped in a castle. There was a moat around it.

You sure there wasn't a diagonal exit?
You sure there wasn't a diagonal exit?
Nope, completely surrounded. I found a staircase after a bit of searching, though.
Wait..so..if you escape the dungeon the game ends and you loose the character just like you had died? that sucks...I wanted to be able to keep using the same character and get stronger and have more dangerous dungeons....

If you escape the dungeon without the Orb then gameover.
You're meant to go down not up.
Is it even possible to find helmets in the dungeon without buying them from a shop, haven't found a single one yet. Just shitload of chest armour and one pair of gloves. Not counting stuff like robes and cloaks, talking about real armour here.
Playing online is the best thing ever.
I used to love this game, I played it all the fucking time.
Not sure why I stopped.

Yes, I've found them before. It's rarer than the other sorts of armour though.
Do not enter the orcish mines when you first find it unless you are an experienced player and using a strong character build. The mines are sometimes easy and sometimes full of things that will kill you. It should be fine for orc priests that haven't been abusing smite though. Avoid the elven halls too.
Geez, having a hard time with every combination. Tried a Monk Ghoul and he just slashes and hacks his way through the enemies.
