Yes, they did cut out a ton of things, but to be honest I didn't really care for blood OR realism. They would have been nice ('Cept for the realism part, I don't like playing games while wearing a coffee filter, thanks) but they aren't really needed to convey that you're playing god for your group of creatures and are trying to evolve them to their peak.
Cell: Not bad, especially fun when you attach a shitload of jets and zoom around the primordial soup.
Creature: Not Horrible, but is WAY too repetitive and SINCE WHEN DOES MY CREATURE HAVE TO MIGRATE THROUGH EVERY NEST THAT'S MY DAMN ENEMY?
Tribal: Not bad the social way, but fighting's a fucking cruel joke if you didn't tack on the BEST fighting parts.
Civilization: Tribal Stage except red is actually fucking possible.
Space: Fuck fuckity fuck fuck fu- Sorry, got caught in my own swearing. Fun, but there needs to be a slider you can change on the fly for raids and ecodisasters.
The expansion saved it for me
Because, it went from what looked like an incredible game to a piece of shit, over-simplified pile of garbage that a retarded monkey with no arms or legs could play blind folded.
Absolute shit. Fuck you EA.
It gets boring and repetitive. I find myself staring new games and just playing them on the creature and cvilization stages. And the only reason I play civilization is because I like making my ground vehicles resemble Metal-Gears.
Spore was repetitive, EAT THIS AND YOUR BRAIN GETS BIGGER.
I love the editors, though:

most people feel disappointed at the game because they wanted what's on the beta, and want it to be a hard-core game, but EA turned it into a casual game. Most people now loved the game due to how you can make anything using selected parts and construct the most awesome creature, building and everything else out there.
The game is great to me, however it get boring and repetitive, there have not yet been a expansion set to change the repetitiveness and other stuff. I just wish the game parts was a bit longer, challanging, and more better stuff. I wish the civilization was longer and start off in ages then just begin in a modern-age, no classical, medieval, renaissance... just unrealistically shoot off to modern-age with tanks, plane, and ship only.
Every good aspect of the game got cut (Having to do about science) and to make matters worse it was turned into a game for children.
More like EA ruined everything. According to Will Wright they dumbed it down so it would appeal to casual gamer. Aka targeted the most profitable group.
What was lost:
- Blood
- Fish stage
- The oh so awesome skeleton system seen in the earlier videos
- Shit I can't remember
1. I'd like to see where Will says that EA did that because I've never heard of him saying it.
2. When I think about it, EA made the right choice.
I thought that Spore was great. I wish that the creature stage was longer because that was the best part. I liked Spore so much that I bought Spore Origins for my iPod Nano, which was also a great game. However, the 5 activation limit on this was very annoying, but it is definitely not a purchase-breaker.
I liked it until I lost eight hours of play time due to no autosave.
Seriously, what kind of game doesn't have an autosave feature nowadays?

It didn't have autosave?
It didn't have autosave?
No I don't think so, to be honest though I'm glad it doesn't because it would have really sucked for me in a number of cases
I thought Spore was a decent game. I didn't listen to any hype of the game prior to me buying it, so my expectations were low.
I also got the Galactic Adventures expansion, and that's probably a good purchase if you want the stuff that EA apparently cut out from the original to sell as an expansion. The adventure creator is worth it, and it really feels more like an RPG now.
Excuse me? Will Wright Didn't fuck the shit up, EA Totally remade the fucking game EA Made Space stage, and cut out a FUCK ton of good things to make it suit all gamers, including console fags who only own a pc for the internet, except they fucked over real gamers.
Ok.
Chris Becker...
Fuck you.
I think it's boring. Maybe it's fun for a 5 years old kid.
The guy who made it dumbed down was Chris Hecker.
That's the one. Everyone's saying it was EA that turned Spore into what we got, but isn't Chris Hecker a Maxis employee?
I personally love it. I've never had any contact with all the hype, but once it came out i liked the idea of making my own critter that evolves.
True, it's repetetive, but it's still fun. Saddly, it's also extremely short :(
And now stage wise:
Cell Stage: One of my favourites, but it's SO FUCKING SHORT D:
Creature Stage: My most favourite stage, could be longer too. (Herbivores suck lol)
Tribal Stage: It's ok, but i try to get through it ASAP
Civilization Stage: ... i hate it. Overly long and boring.
Space Stage: I like it, it sort of combines previous parts into one. I mean seriously, i can terraform planets, seed them with life, or destroy them enitrely, hell, i can paint it pink if i want to. The Grox and lack of any useful planetary defense is frustrating though.
I haven't played Galactic Adventures yet, but it looks.... strange.
For once i wish EA would fucking leave games alone, they've ruined so many great games and franchises it makes me wonder why the FUCK they are still in the games business.
I remember reading an interview with one of the devs who had admitted he was the one that ruined it. He said he wanted to make it more child friendly and add religion to it so he decided to brainwash half the maxis team and they spoke up against Wills great ideas and they changed it. If only I could remember where the link was.
Never mind, I failed to read someone had already posted Chris Hecker.

They are today's LJN.

Exactly everyones sentiment. Everyone that got caught up in hype did so with good reason, because they thought that was what they'd be playing. Not an abstract art program by, essentially, fisher price.
Had they never said a word up until release, It would have made a world of difference, they promised us something they didn't deliver.
Conversation
Actually will wright was pretty much sitting with his head on the desk towards the end signing papers and letting his minions do the work, he was completely disenchanted with the entire thing in the end.
I don't really think it was a bad game, everyone was just expecting so much more I guess, It was fun, but not even close to as good as I thought it would be.
I love it.
I can create a species independent from my own, place it on a planet, make it sentient, let it grow and then force them to worship me.
I am fully satisfied with my purchase.
Now there's an idea....
It was expected but the expansion did save the game from the bargain bin.
If you think outside the box and spend a lot of time on it. You can make some complicated original adventures
Spore: Hate it, love it, why?
Hate it:
-I spent over £45 ($75-$100 at the time) on the Original Edition the first day it was released, this was the RRP in UK Retailers.
-Shit gameplay.
-5 Install Limit at the time. Another install would be lost from a simple hardware change.
Love it:
-N/a
I didn't like the game because after seeing how good it was, then just playing a stripped down children's game, ruined everything.
Maxims was all like "LOOK HOW COOL THIS IS AW BLOOD YES PHYSICS WOO YES SIMULATION CONROL THE UNIVERSE PROCEDERAL VERBS LOOK AT HOW COOL THIS SHIT IS"
Then Maxim changed to "LOL LOOK HOW CUTE HE IS. WAIT WE DONT WANT TO OFFEND PEOPLE LETS SCRAP MOST OF THE EVOLUTION SIMULATION. PHYSICS NEED TO GO. WE CAN MAKE MORE MONEY IF WE SELL MOST PARTS LATER WOO. THE GAMES TOO LONG TAKE SWIM STAGE OUT!"
fucking idiots. spore was good. but it could have been revolutionizing.
EDIT: also this
Had they never said a word up until release, It would have made a world of difference, they promised us something they didn't deliver.
The real Spore never came out.
MAXIS didnt do the shitsaw jiggle to the game, they just made the real spore, then EA fucked up the game and made it into a baby game
EA didn't develop it. Maxis did. Maxis chose the direction they took.
For me it was fun for a day. Day 2 I just rushed to the galactic core to get it over with.
