Proximity to the geth might also be a factor, seeing as humanity is the only citadel species to not have been spaceborn during the geth rebellion.

Sure they have their own problems but they are just forcing them on other people by practically looting them and if this story is correct, attacking vessels. When the Council didn't give in to them they started a proxy war and gave a shitload of money to slavers and raiders.

Caste system and slaves, reciprocation of their disgust towards humans, large scale involvement by them in raids on Alliance and human settlements, slimy and conniving nature making them horrible to deal with, non-council race and to survive become heavily invested in illegal activities and plenty more. All I can think while writing this is how bad it would sound if it was about a human ethnicity. However I don't understand why everyone is extremely harsh on Batarians. I actually blame the Alliance more than I do them.

Instead of competing with them they tried to push them out of the game and then resorted to dirty tricks. The Alliance is not to blame merely for their participation in the same region as the Batarians.

You know how Fantastic Racism is supposed to help people understand so they can apply it to the real world? I just did the reverse and used real world knowledge to understand this better. Allow to to explain. When we say we hate Batarians, we are not saying we hate Batarian people just the culture, upbringing and attitude they have. Each individual Batarian is reasonable as shown by several in Mercenary groups who follow the way of the gang more than Batarian ways. Hating Batarian people would give some notion that they were different or inferior when they are fairly similar, hating Batarian culture on the other hand is fine as it mostly revolves around slavery and trickery. We hate their caste system, we hate their general attitude towards humans, we hate their governments activities, but these only reflect upon the individual as much as they adopt it. They are free to be offended by us insulting Batarian culture in the same way as humans would be insulted over Democracy being berated. If they do not care or are affiliated with other groups more strongly, it doesn't impact them.
