Just to reiterate a previously brought up point: it seems you've swayed yourself.
I totally did.
I would pick the PS3 and I own both consoles, get the 360 off of Ebay later on if you feel like you're missing out, I got mine off of there for cheap.
The 360 doesn't seem like it was designed to be very future proof, its use of the increasingly inadequate DVD format is proof of this as is its dated processor architecture and cheap construction.
That is not true, it's all speculation at this point, but experts are saying it'll limit online play and make current features available.
It is true, because it is already out. It's just getting DLC and stuff early, and there are reviews and previews of games and films. [editline]08:11AM[/editline]
4:40 PM - trololo: The XBOX 360 is also far faster to develop for due to better development tools
Only reason it is faster to develop for is because developers know their ways around the Xbox technology, where as a lot of developers are still trying to work out how to best use the PS3 technology.
PS3, you won't regret it trust me. Raptor, I hate you, but that last pic is pretty funny.
I have a gaming PC and all 3 of the latest consoles. I use my PC to play games, I use my 360 to play games, I use my Wii to play games, I use my PS3 to stream movies. PSN has, in the past, to be extremely unreliable for me ( Me and a friend who have zero problems on 360 constantly lost connection in LBP ). It also has frozen or come EXTREMELY close ( Think FPS<1 ) and it's very annoying. I tried several demos on the PS3 to always be disappointed with framerate issues. GTAIV is a WONDERFUL example. My PS3 got maybe 20 when I was lucky. Otherwise it was shit city. Locking up, lagging, general crap that pissed me off. All in all, it's a good console for streaming but fuck gaming on it. Oh and if the controller battery could last more than 5 hours and I'd be happy. I literally bought each console for exclusives: 360 = Forza/Halo PS3 = LBP Wii = Mario. And my PC for Valve/Anything fun. But overall the PS3 sounds like the console for you if you listen to lots of music and watch movies ( as I do ) in another room. Streams flawlessly and supports a FUCK ton of formats.

Seems like a hit or miss sort of thing.
Playstation 3
What you described for what you want in your first post was almost an exact description of the PS3. Great media system, free wireless internet, better exclusives. All round better.
Xbawks or PS3? PC without a doubt.
PS3. You want a Blu-ray, Free online, Netflix, It's CD ripping. You can get Valve games on PC. And they're all on the shitty source engine so a hunk of shit can run them. It's not even a competition. PS3 has the features you want most so get that.
They're pretty much the same. With either one you'll be both eternally happy with it and at the same time, wanting the other one. All my mates with a PS3 want a 360 for Halo and Viva Piñata (shut up it's awesome). I want a PS3 for Uncharted and ... stuff. It's an endless cycle that's broken only by having both consoles. I think it's a conspiracy, Sony IS Microsoft.

IIRC, someone managed to run Crysis at a playable state on PS3.
Other OS is gone, so he can't.
ITT: Massive PS3 circlejerk.
sorry that i prefer region free, quality exclusives and the ability to watch blu-ray movies man instead of living in the past with that dvd player [editline]10:30AM[/editline]
Other OS is gone, so he can't.
this and crysis wasn't actually running on his ps3 because otheros's hardware access was so limited that he really wouldn't have been able to run it
Ps3

Is that something I should rely on? Because I absolutely adore Valve.
Sounds like a PC would be perfect for you.
I decided to buy a ps3 because all my friends had one, if not i would have gone with the 360. Do your friends have a ps3 or a 360?
well PS3 has littlebigplanet so get that :3
Get a PS3. All your "must-haves" exactly suit the PS3, so get it.
Buy a playbox 360 2
I was going to say that!
Well, keep in mind that certain PS3 models can't play PS2 games if you decide to get PS2 games along with it. Really, The 360 is the more popular but less amazing choice, I'll put it like this. The 360 gets a flow of average to great games but the PS3 gets a low stream of amazing games. Killzone 2, GTA4 (multi platform though) MGS4
PSN has, in the past, to be extremely unreliable for me ( Me and a friend who have zero problems on 360 constantly lost connection in LBP ). It also has frozen or come EXTREMELY close ( Think FPS<1 ) and it's very annoying.
That has been fixed in a recent patch. Me and my friends had the same problem, and now we have none.

LBP ran fine for me, online or offline at 30+ FPS at all times. the only time that GTA 4 ever drops in frames is when the police pile 15 cars on your head and proceed to blow up. AFAIK a fuckton of reviewers grabbed both versions of the game and compared the shit out of them concluding NO DIFFERENCE WHATSOFUCKINGEVER! I'd say go for the PS3. i own both for the sake of exclusives. the best of the PS3 (GoW3, Uncharted 2, FF13) are looking and feeling just an obvious edge better than the 360s best (GoW2, Fable2, Halo3, ODST) I'll say that it's pretty obvious that the PS3 will leave the 360 a few steps behind in the next year or two. FF13 is the first (unimportant) step. that "ps3 has no gaem" meme is about as old and outdated as "the world is flat i tell you!". there's a ton of titles now and the world became round as of 1492.
Allow me to give you some slight background on myself. I am a bit of a videophile and audiophile. I care what modern video games look like and jagged edges have the potential kill me momentarily. Now, I've done countless hours of research on both consoles and have come to find that both support anti-aliasing in games, however, they don't both ALWAYS do so. It depends on the game(for some reason). I have also deeply studied the controllers and the comfort of them, and found them both to be spectacular, yet equal in my hands. Five things are keeping me undecided. Firstly, the Xbox360 does not have a Blu-ray player. Which to me, is key, since I will be playing either console(whichever I decide to get) on an high definition television, and I am tired of DVD quality on this mammoth. It looks like shit. And however much one may argue that the Xbox offers DVD-Upscaling, remember that the Playstation 3 also offers that. So that's hardly a selling point. Especially when the Playstation has Blu-ray playback on top of the DVD-Upscaling. Secondly, Valve has previously stated that they don't plan on developing for the Playstation, however, in recent months, perhaps even weeks(I don't recall exactly), one of the Valve execs(Chet Faliszek), believes that development on the Playstation will happen eventually. Is that something I should rely on? Because I absolutely adore Valve. Netflix was once a worry, however, my third indecision is movie choice and quality of both consoles. Sony's video selection must be massive, however I am curious of it's quality. And I have heard time and time again that Xbox's Netflix support is downscaled for optimum online streaming. Which is a mega turnoff. Fourth on the list is audio quality and ease of audio use. I have heard rave reviews of the Playstations CD-ripping skills and that it does so in a fast and efficient way. That is good news, however, when it comes to the Xbox, I know very little about audio playback. If I were planning to meld my console into a movie watching, game playing, music listening home media center, which would be the best option? And finally, online capabilities come into play. I understand that you get what you pay for with Xbox Live, however, you are still actually paying. I have a wireless network at home and I really do expect to be able to play my games as I would on PC. For free(aside from the cable provider bills). The Playstation boasts free wireless connectivity with a browser and a menu that is simplistic(which is what I like). The Xbox's former "dashboard" was nice, however, after having seen my friends with the upgraded Xbox "Experience", I am sort of put off by it's almost childish appeal. How does the online Live connection compare to the Playstation Network? Is one more reliable than the other? I look forward to hearing more opinions and suggestions. I tried my best to offer you a window into the way I think, so if you could, help me out on the points I don't know about. It will be much appreciated.
Blu ray isn't that good. To be honest, I prefer DVD. In case of editing, the edits aren't visual, while on blu ray, you see almost everything, like blurred hair. DON'T GET VALVE GAMES ON CONSOLES IF YOU CAN GET THEM ON THE PC! You can use your pc to download videos and music, which you can play on your Xbox360. Quality depends on the download, but if you choose a good one, it will remain good. ^^ With paid online, you get less noobs that think they're the "ultra L33T". though they say Xbox live is full of kids, I've only heard one once. But that one just said Hi to his brother who was playing. [editline]05:52PM[/editline] Arguments from an Xbox owner.
Just buy whatever your friends have. Yes really. The only games I ever play on my PS3 are the singleplayer exclusives like Uncharted and MGS4. The only games I ever play on my Xbox are ones with my friends like Bad Company 2... and to be honest I have a million times more fun on BC2 with my friends on 360 than I ever do playing it on the PC on my own, regardless of how technically better it is on PC. Also, if your friends have 360s then you and they will have the great benefit of XBL which, in my opinion, is worth the price because it is vastly superior the PSN. Don't worry about shit like "omg xbl is full of noob kids" because you'll be playing with your friends in easy to use private parties. Seriously, unless you're a film buff and you really need the BluRay player on the PS3, just get what your friends have. If you have a gaming PC already (and therefore there is no point in most of the Xbox games because you can get them on PC) and no friends or your friends have PS3s then get the PS3.

The film has to be hindered by the amount of space on a DVD to let it be worth watching on Blu-Ray. I only own a few Blu-Ray movies for this reason. Cloverfield, Sunshine, Avatar (to be), and Beside You In Time.

I've never had any annoying kids on the PS3, although fewer people use headsets so that'll probably help. But it is probably best to go for whatever your friends have, that's why I originally bought the PS3 over the 360. For a while I regretted it, since there where few games on the PS3, now though I think there are a lot more exclusives I'd rather play on the PS3 than the 360.
