i report u
PS3 Cause it has free online.
The PS3 is a fantastic home theater centerpiece / media hub. The Xbox is not. I find that the PS3 is easier to use, where the 360 does get confusing (on its menus and navigation). If you find yourself a person who loves to watch movies, listen to music, and play games, then the PS3 is pretty much what you want.
Not to say that 360 is a bad console, but it's not as reliable and only functions well in gaming, where other features like movies and music are more mediocre. As said by others, if you like to play a lot of online games, have a lot of friends who you will play with, etc, then the 360 is for you.

this and crysis wasn't actually running on his ps3 because otheros's hardware access was so limited that he really wouldn't have been able to run it
Other OS was only really good for Linux. The PS3 could BARELY run WinXP. Sucks for the Air Force though (Or whoever bought those like 2000 PS3s) since Linux was probably what they're running.
Oh yeah, one extra bonus about the PS3 is that it does NOT have the New Xbox Experience.
The NXE is THE ugliest, slowest, most confusing bullshit UI ever. And Avatars look stupid.
[editline]11:10PM[/editline]
I legitimately believe that the Xbox's UI is the worst part about the Xbox. The old UI was much much better.
I have the same problem with this. The new UI for the Xbox is so bloated and the utilization of those new avatar deals is pointless. Even if a few of my friends play their Xbox online, it's not worth it, considering I'd probably be playing offline anyway. Whatever online gaming I do is on PC.
Allow me to give you some slight background on myself. I am a bit of a videophile and audiophile. I care what modern video games look like and jagged edges have the potential kill me momentarily. Now, I've done countless hours of research on both consoles and have come to find that both support anti-aliasing in games, however, they don't both ALWAYS do so. It depends on the game(for some reason). I have also deeply studied the controllers and the comfort of them, and found them both to be spectacular, yet equal in my hands.
Five things are keeping me undecided.
Firstly, the Xbox360 does not have a Blu-ray player. Which to me, is key, since I will be playing either console(whichever I decide to get) on an high definition television, and I am tired of DVD quality on this mammoth. It looks like shit. And however much one may argue that the Xbox offers DVD-Upscaling, remember that the Playstation 3 also offers that. So that's hardly a selling point. Especially when the Playstation has Blu-ray playback on top of the DVD-Upscaling.
Secondly, Valve has previously stated that they don't plan on developing for the Playstation, however, in recent months, perhaps even weeks(I don't recall exactly), one of the Valve execs(Chet Faliszek), believes that development on the Playstation will happen eventually. Is that something I should rely on? Because I absolutely adore Valve.
Netflix was once a worry, however, my third indecision is movie choice and quality of both consoles. Sony's video selection must be massive, however I am curious of it's quality. And I have heard time and time again that Xbox's Netflix support is downscaled for optimum online streaming. Which is a mega turnoff.
Fourth on the list is audio quality and ease of audio use. I have heard rave reviews of the Playstations CD-ripping skills and that it does so in a fast and efficient way. That is good news, however, when it comes to the Xbox, I know very little about audio playback. If I were planning to meld my console into a movie watching, game playing, music listening home media center, which would be the best option?
And finally, online capabilities come into play. I understand that you get what you pay for with Xbox Live, however, you are still actually paying. I have a wireless network at home and I really do expect to be able to play my games as I would on PC. For free(aside from the cable provider bills). The Playstation boasts free wireless connectivity with a browser and a menu that is simplistic(which is what I like). The Xbox's former "dashboard" was nice, however, after having seen my friends with the upgraded Xbox "Experience", I am sort of put off by it's almost childish appeal. How does the online Live connection compare to the Playstation Network? Is one more reliable than the other?
I look forward to hearing more opinions and suggestions. I tried my best to offer you a window into the way I think, so if you could, help me out on the points I don't know about. It will be much appreciated.
Let's put it this way.
A PS3 is a Blu-Ray player that plays games. Not the other way around.
Xbox 360 is a dedicated gaming console, with massive developer support and a better online service.
It sounds like you're leaning more towards a PS3 because it's definitely more suited for large televisions, especially for movie streaming and Blu-Ray.
However: be wary
The PS3...
"Lacks backward support for PS2 games; no infrared port means non-Bluetooth universal remotes aren't compatible; online gaming, media, and commerce options still aren't as fully developed as Xbox Live, though they're getting better."
For Gaming, go 360. For medium-heavy Blu-Ray and HD users, go PS3. The Xbox definitely has a larger developer support base, and is only missing a few exclusives from PS3 (Most notably Little Big Planet, but also some others like Killzone 2).
I have an Xbox fanboy at my school, and when I told him that both systems were pretty good, but the PS3 was better in MY opinion, he flipped out and starting yelling at me about how Xbox is better than every console, has the most exclusives, HD is better than bluray, and how Live is the coolest thing ever, AND finished with saying that Live is better than Playstation Network because the connection is perfect no matter what kind of internet you have, you can have the shittiest internet ever and still get the best connections always. :/ I have no hope for him.
HA
HAHA
HAHAHAHA.
[/laugh]
If you could play Live on the shittiest connection ever, I wouldn't need ICS between my PC and my Xbox. Sorry, but I have shitty wireless reception in my living room which cuts my bandwith in half.
PS3 is fine enough for gaming alone, wake up. the "360 haz gaems" card is an old weapon from 06/07 which has been reused by over confident 360 faveurs although it is barely vailid anymore. look around, not counting abomination "OMG NEXT GEN" titles from 05/05/07, what does the 360 have that the ps3 doesn't have? i don't mean the exclusive train, PS3 has got a nice one of those too now.
what the 360 has got is a big as hell, old games library, an outdated POS dvd drive with no chance of playing HD-movies. pay for online services you might never need, while the PS3 gets the very basic package, a more than adequate connection and free play. i've NEVER encountered a hitch with PSN so i'm sticking to my verified sources (me, my experiences) and call bullshit there. the only cards the 360 has left on me are Fable 3 and GoW 3. N(/f)atal never interested me and it's reduced to a big ass playstation eye anyway. halo never interested me, it's boring as fuck to me.
I'm advising PS3 because it's in the take-over lane right now, this isn't 08. times are changing and some cool-as-hell titles has come and are coming for the PS3. 360 has alot of those though, but the future seems uncertain to me.
I think OP was a cleverly disguised flamewar with the 360.
Mainly because he said nothing good about it, so why even need to choose?

This doesn't even make sense. What services am I paying for that I'm not using? The Xbox live party chat is a godsend, it's the reason its worth the 50 dollars A YEAR. It allows me to play with my FRIENDS. Isn't that the point of online gaming? Stop trying to justify which is a better console when they are both very good purchases. The only thing that should stop you is which console your friends have.
It all depends on what your friends play in my opinion.
All my friends have a ps3. I got a 360. And now I wish I bought a ps3 instead.
Borrowing games and playing with your friends is key.
Also, maybe it's cause I actually use it, but the dashboard is not confusing at all. It's just as simple as the PS3 XMB. You turn it on and it's on your Xbox tab. The options are Play Game, Check achievments, View Game Library, and misc. system options. Go up and its the video marketplace, watch movies on netflix (which streams in HD completely fine),and rent/purchase movies and TV shows. Go up again and you can see all of your friends. You can see if they are in a party and who is in it. Want to talk? Just press ONE button.
Xbox360 won at first, but there's really very little reason now to get an xbox instead of a playstation.
Also, get a pc.
Well, to be honest, I've been around Xbox360s a lot in the past. But it almost seems like there isn't any more potential in them. The Playstation seems to have a LOT more potential in the future.
Then buy a Playstation in the future and buy the perfected Xbox360 now.
The OP wants a PS3
The one thing i will say about the PS3 is it's very open.
Is it USB/Bluetooth? Then it will work with the ps3, the only exception to that rule is USB Xbox hardware.
Microsoft has little to no third party hardware, which is not necessarily a bad thing, no matter what you buy for your 360 will work but if you have a gaming headset for your PC, plug it in to your PS3 and it should work just fine, but it's not %100 guaranteed.
The PS3 was designed to be the all in one media centre for your home, acting as a web browser, DVD player, digital photo frame, games console (and if you buy the peripheral a DVR) all in one.
The Xbox was designed to be an outright gaming console period.
You want a PS3 based on what you are looking for.

i don't care for mics, i hate speaking to people since my English is worse than Kim Jong Il in "team America".
i have ONE friend who owns a console, he's got the PS3, we both have always had that as our main platform (we just moved to PC) and have an Xbox for secondary interests. 50 a year or so for some features that would be useless for me is pushing it, I'm already paying for Internet access and they're just too bold when charging me for playing games i already own online. i'm sticking where it suits me.
my REAL stance is neutral, i know that rant was biased to hell. but it is not much more than a bit of angle and slightly enhanced truths. the Xbox has no chance of keeping up when developers refuse to use multiple discs, its format for HD movies died and they refuse to pay their competitors for what could lead them to stay NO.1 even after the playstations exclusive library starts to leave the box behind (which FF13 was the first multi-platform game to do and Uncharted 2, MGS4 and GoW3 are better at showing off their shines than any 360 game I've seen.) I'm merely being realistic with a grain of fanboy (nah, it's not that fanatic, let's say preference) towards the Playstation.
PS3 has been gaining on the Xbox for about two years now and it's readying up for a takeover in 10/11/early 12. my impression is, Multi-player with social interaction is at the 360. all round console/media-center with all the cards in 11/12 is PS3 and that's where the next lump of epic shit is at.
I'm going with PS3. I'm already kicking myself for not getting one back in 2008. Don't get me wrong I love my Xbox, but it seems that the better exclusives are with PS3. Plus I hate Live with a passion.
inb4 fan war
Buy both you stupid bitch.
RAWR!!!

I bought a PS3 today, and I was only not mentioning the good points of the Xbox because I had basically chosen my outcome. It was up to Facepunch to sway me and give me that last push. I like confirmation.
Good choice!
You're always safe with that pee ess tripple

You also seem to like good consoles and good games.
XBOX 360 is the now, Playstation 3 is the future.
People have failed to realize it yet, and the future for the PS3 is fast approaching, just buy one.
I think PS3 is the now and future.
