Stupid question but how do I install texture packs? I have downloaded one and it is a series of folders and I have placed them in the texturepacks folder but it isn't working. Tried giving it a folder called "pack1" or something but that didn't work either.

put the .zip into the texturepack folder. no need to extract or anything

So, until yesterday, I had been playing Minecraft without sound, for months.
Every fix available had been tried, but to no avail.
I tried for once last time yesterday, and found out that renaming "OpenAL32.dll" Fixed the problem.
I went on Minecraft, and could finally appreciate the beautiful ambiance and sounds of Minecraft.

I see. I did but I can't see it in the texture menu. Maybe the pack is outdated since it says that I have to install it the old way.

Removed torches.

Yeah, people were smelting iron and making swords from diamond in pre stone ages. a few ones had their own hotels too, and they mined with TNT.
Anyways, this describes BetterLight pretty well.

Press start.
Click on 'Run' and type in %appdata%
This will either bring up a whole list of folders or a folder called roaming (depending on your OS; Go into Roaming if you have it)
Go into the .minecraft, then into saves.
Chuck that stuff onto a USB stick, and carry it wherever.
Do the same to put them back onto another PC.
