He can just implement it client side for now. Because he should rewrite the light code to be more efficient.

Writing code for efficiency requires deep code analysis which can be a daunting task for the most seasoned of programmers. Reusing code requires one to wade through thousands of lines of code that has already been optimized many times. Rewriting the code is a monumental task, and often, there are little to no gains. And it isn't like there is an easy way to just rewrite it. If you have a suggestion for how to rewrite the lighting code, feel free to send it to Notch.

It's everything but. What I am saying is that the mod is efficient and it works well so there is no reason why notch can not impliment it.
