Why didn't he just buy a crap load of codes and give them out? All the money would have counted the same.

Maybe he didnt want his name to say 1 $ 1000 times?
Maybe he didnt want his name to say 1 $ 1000 times?
Yeah, but that doesn't even matter. I'm pretty sure he was just being generous, rather than trying to make himself look good. If all he cared about was being nice, it wouldn't matter if it didn't say @Notch - $2000, if the money went to them.
Why didn't he just buy a crap load of codes and give them out? All the money would have counted the same.
No, the money wouldn't be the same. That would be, say, $2000 for 2000 codes, meaning 2000 people who just got it for a dollar. If notch just donates, like he did, then those 1999 other people could also buy it with their own money, thus meaning, for instance, $3999 for 2000 codes.

Nevermind the fact that every PayPal transaction costs $0.40, so if he bought 2000 copies, $1 each, only $1200 would get anywhere.

That is, IF he used PayPal. I used Amazon's service, I dunno what their fee is.

Not worth it
Maybe musical stairs, so that stepping on higher steps on it will make a higher-pitched sound!
Just figure out how to do it based on what Notch posted, then wait until he releases the redstone instrument blocks.
Then you can just stick some there and you'll have the first not-incredibly-simple sound thingy!
i'm not too great at explaining things am i :saddowns:
It wouldn't be that complicated, though, once you get the gist of it
Sounds like it could be used as a burglar alarm when combined with Redstone and pressure pads...

Considering he has a company now, he probably doesn't earn that much anymore.
Can someone post all the existing mob mods that work?
And what's the use of gravel besides flint.
Take it or sand with you to dungeons. When you encounter a large drop down to another section, drop it against a wall above the drop until its at your level, then dig straight down while standing on it.
An alternative is to use a bucket of water for these drops and that's my prefered option, but gravel or sand also do the job ok if you don't have one handy.
Hey so....I know minecraft is a great game...but when am I not going to be able to see each individual pixel

You mean on the textures? Never. It's how the game is supposed to look. If you don't like the look, download a HD texture pack.

It's called art style. The 16x16 textures are part of the games style and I'd be sad to see them go for some unoriginal brown, blurred, glowing shiny high resolution textures.
If you're referring to the blocks themselves then I'm afraid you completely miss the mechanics of the game and the game will never become deblocked.
If you care about the blocky art style then I'm afraid you will continue to be dissapointed.

Because how would they get more donations if he bought a bunch of people the games? If you aren't willing to spend a dollar for charity you don't deserve the games.
Period.

I misunderstood how the charity thing worked. I understand this now. I assumed all the money was just going to charity so I figured it all go in the same. Obviously I was wrong. And trust me, I donate to charities every time I can. After having several family members have cancer, and my mother having muscular dystrophy, I'm more than willing to donate to any charity.
It was just a misunderstanding.

I don't get why people don't like the style. Just today I decided to walk along the coast for no reason other than to see what would be created and what the world would look like when I was done. If the game was some incredibly detailed thing I'd never be able to just walk and not know what to expect. Plus the 16x16 textures make it feel like you're inside an old 2D rpg.
When PVP comes out, I hope Notch implements a buddy system.
If someone is on your buddy list, you can't hurt them, and they can't hurt you.
I really want the poster in the OP on a shirt, just without the "minecraft thread" parts
