Not really. Those maps may look pretty and make you think it's awesome when you generate it, but after an hour or so of playing on it and having inpassable mountains every few metres, making it near impossible to collect wood or find a reasonable building space you will be sick of it.

Mandatory updates like bugfixes and new content which is supposed to be in the final version? Free.
Eventual DLCs, like the planned Zombie Siege mode, then gotta pay money.

I'm going to rar my entire .minecraft folder right now, encrypt it, and back it up online as well as on my HDD so I can play alpha when the game is complete.
