Maybe a kinda "Do X and X happens" thing in some parts of the game?
You get given a choice, go right and you must destroy as much as you can (should affect the ending somehow)
Or
Go left and end the game there.
Going left will give you a simple "Good job." Going right will give you a "Face all these enemies and destroy as much as you can, live as long as you can and see a boss"
