I come to expect a dev console in most games, even though I rarely get one :saddowns:
This. If I had a decent PC, I know this is the only thing I'd look for considering, I had more fun playing with the console, then actually playing the game.
Just played gta 4 on a friends pc god that game was so much fun source and gta are the best things ever made.
I can live with other game engines. But VALVe's free DLC policy has spoiled me with no hope of going back :3:
I love Source, but it could use some graphical upgrades. I'm not saying 'LOLOLOLMW2RULESHL2SUCKSROFLMAO'. Just some of those lovely fire effects from L4D2, slightly sharper materials and models, just a little here and a little there. And, of course, release the neglected child of Episode Three. Some of the L4D2 tech would be perfect, like the head and body dynamic system thingy, so we could have more rebel varieties. The car coloring system, too... And maybe the door-smashing mechanic, although I'm not sure about that one. Don't fix what isn't broken, yeah, but you can certainly spice it up. Though, admittedly, it would be epic to smash a door in with a barrel and charge into a room filled with Combine, wielding nothing but a sawblade and a small squad of rebels. Or throw a grenade through a window and hide while the Combine flee the house, picking each one off one by one. The AI Director would be fun too; now, is there an Elite in there or a few bored Metrocops? Depends on how well it would feel, though.
I'm exactly like that.
I'm addicted to Source too. It's hard to enjoy non-Source FPS games when I notice how non-Source-ish they feel. It's like getting used to driving a certain car for a long time and then suddenly trying to drive your friend's car. It feels weird as hell. One thing I don't get though is why people say Source looks dated. Honestly, I still think Source looks just fine. If you turn up all those settings in even just the Orange Box engine, games like TF2 and HL2EP2 look amazing, at least to me. I personally don't see that much graphical advancement in today's newer games; it feels to me like Source nailed human appearance and the 'feel' of different materials (like metal or stone) than most games do today. For some reason most of today's games make everything look and feel like plastic to me. I'm sure a lot of you will disagree; I'm just stating how I feel.
I love Source for the direct contact the user can have with what is under the hood. I'm not even talking about modding, but simply accessing the console and having control of everything right there. I also love how flawlessly everything is integrated. The server browser is also probably the best one I've used in a game to date.
I got Crysis last year to go with a massive gaming powerhouse machine, and played it with all the settings on maximum. The first thing I thought was "THIS is the game everyone compares graphics to?" The physics sucked, (the day I can throw a turtle and have it hit and kill me...) the graphics sucked, (They really couldn't get their shadows right) and the water looked absolutely terrible. I am a spoiled Source player.
I most definitely became spoiled as well. I cannot freaking wait until Portal 2, Facepunch will flip upside down during it's release date, possibly during the whole release month. I usually would write a detailed wall of text about this matter, but I decided to make an exception.
i dont like it in other games when i press t and its chat :(
I find it hard to find good games now. Too much garrys mod :C
console, mods and maps are the things i missed most in other games I play, i know they aren't source exclusive but no other game that i have ever played has been modded like css or gmod
That's why Sorce games are cool (online games specially). While TF2 players get free maps, gamemodes and items, MW2 players for example get paid packs with 4 maps. PC games are the best for online with exceptions like Uncharted 2 (only for PS3)
Only thing I don't enjoy in other games than Source games - movement of the player. I feels so stiff and limited in other games *cough*ARMA II*cough*
This this this. It feels so stiff and sluggish in a lot of non-source games.
I kinda feel the same way. Other game engines just don't feel right, even if they're better than source.
After my exams I'm gonna get a beast gaming rig and play through every Source game without my laptop being a pile of SHIT
After my exams I'm gonna get a beast gaming rig and play through every Source game without my laptop being a pile of SHIT
Make sure, that the beast has a beast cpu. Then you can really have fun with source-games / mods. :v:
Are Valve games the only ones that have spray?
I think the actual Havok Physics that Source engine uses, is just outdated. Probably Havok updated their engine with better physics than it was when Valve used it when they built Source Engine..
I love Source too much, I've play over 2 months worth of my life on GMod, when you put it in that retrospect it makes me feel like a basement dwelling freak :(
Though not a first person shooter, I cringe when I see the syncing in Street Fighter 4. Their mouth just moves randomly for about the same amount of time they talk.

(Which will naturally affect also to future source games, including Ep3.)
