-Mods
-Better controls
-More great indie games (Minecraft, Osmos and AaAaAA!!! - A Reckless Disregard for Gravity, would never sell well on consoles, plus the devs get most of the money)
-You can choose the services you use (I could use Direct2Drive if I wanted, though I prefer Steam)
-The ability to record games in near-perfect quality with Fraps, rather than paying some insane amount of money for an HD capture card
-Multipurpose. I can work on a school project, talk to family and friends in other parts of the world, look anything up, design/program stuff all in the same box
-Able to bring some games with me on my netbook without dragging around a heavy console, TV and power source
-Developers can't get away with making users pay $50 a year
-Goes with multipurpose, though I can learn to program games and run them on the same machine
-Better experience, instead of having upscaled HD you can have the native resolution of the monitor along with the settings maxed out if your compute r can handle it
Ive got a ps3, xbox, wii and a pc.
Why choose?
There are those out there who can only earn enough money for just one system. If you build a sub $750 PC, you will have the complete package; gaming, web-browsing, anything you can think of, all in one. It's the best bang for your buck if any console gamer knew what was good for them.
The way I see it, no person here cannot own a PC, for gaming or not. If you're spending about $200+ to play on a console, you still need a PC or laptop which is about another $300 or $400. Let's not forget the LIVE yearly fee. That will rack up after two or three years. Not to mention all the other little accessories and purchases you make off the market. You can buy a PS3 so you don't pay a LIVE fee, but the system costs a little more. It's a little featureless and not as many play online for some reason.
Back the the original question, why choose? Well, put it this way, what if you could only play on one system for the rest of your life? Which would you choose? While you may be missing out on some things, the PC will bring you the farthest in terms of visual quality, controls and controller options, community support, and mods. Jesus, I forgot mods. Mods will double a purchased games lifetime. In the case of a game like Half-Life 2, considering that I bought it in 2005 and I'm still seeing great mods come out for it, phenomenal. You won't be playing a game that long on a console unless it's something like Final Fantasy 7.

That really aren't that great
-Better controls
You try to play street fighter or gran turismo correctly or anything that doesn't have "point and click" as the main control scheme for that matter.
-More great indie games (Minecraft, Osmos and AaAaAA!!! - A Reckless Disregard for Gravity, would never sell well on consoles, plus the devs get most of the money)
The fact is most indie games are crap and only a few ever make it to be recognized, because they were in fact good.
-You can choose the services you use (I could use Direct2Drive if I wanted, though I prefer Steam)
Gamestop, Gamefly, Best Buy, shit like that
-The ability to record games in near-perfect quality with Fraps, rather than paying some insane amount of money for an HD capture card
Just like paying an insane amount for a graphics card to even warrant recording something of quality.
-Multipurpose. I can work on a school project, talk to family and friends in other parts of the world, look anything up, design/program stuff all in the same box
Everyone who has an internet connection has a computer the fact that it takes literally a minute to boot your computer up(be it crappy or not) and do all the things you mentioned just really renders this argument invalid.
Plus, that really doesn't have much to do with why gaming is superior on PC.
-Able to bring some games with me on my netbook without dragging around a heavy console, TV and power source
DS, PSP, gameboy
-Developers can't get away with making users pay $50 a year
WoW
-Goes with multipurpose, though I can learn to program games and run them on the same machine
You do that if you want if that's a decision you wanna take in life, still not a good reason
-Better experience, instead of having upscaled HD you can have the native resolution of the monitor along with the settings maxed out if your compute r can handle it
You mean 1080p HD being run at 60 fps and ultimately playing 300 dollars for a high quality platform for the whole experience?
HD TV doesn't magically make your game look better.
Heyyyy
Where's my :ughh: emote?
I've got a PS3, a 360 and a PC so I didn't "choose".
I got a PC because I need one for day to day life.
Gaming was just something extra it could do. Have since bought a 360 and haven't sunk nearly as many hours in to it. Probably because I have a penchant for shooters, which play a million times better with mouse and keyboard.
Price. Sure, I buy like a $800 computer but it pays off in Steam sales where I pay like $20 for a game instead of $60 or hell, $70 in Canada it's fucking ridiculous.
HD TV doesn't magically make your game look better.
Yes it does, it makes things look a lot bigger and clearer, and extends your vision.
PCs and current Consoles aren't really that far apart graphics wise.

It does to an extent. Most games on the 360/ps3 just upscale to 1080 or don't support it at all
They are far apart. Resolution makes all the difference, and most games don't take advantage of PC hardware other then a couple such as Metro 2033, and Crysis.
Consoles have out dated hardware and they don't look like they are gonna be changing in the next couple years.
Also MW2 runs lower than 720p I belive it was 600p just to get a couple of frames to reach 60. I hate playing it on my 360 as it looks like shit when I play it on my LCD.

I get a new PC every 3 to 5 years, its the same amount of time as the lifespan of a console.
Most games that just stretch the image out are multiplatform meaning they are not always optimised for their designated platform so ofcourse they aren't all 1080p equivalent and sometimes graphically glitchy.
And I know that PCs can reach way beyond that resolution but then it just takes a ton of money to make the game run at those settings, let alone make it run well.

1. What's you're point? You're still playing on outdated hardware on consoles.
2. Obviously. http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/28/halo-3-not-hd-runs-at-640p-pixel-counters-claim/
3. That's the thing you don't need anything higher than 1080p to fully enjoy a game. My computer was approx. $600 (at the time, and last one in last post was an example.) and has a 3 year old GPU, 2 year old cpu and runs games in 1920x1080 and looks better in any multiplatform games.
My PC is outdated, I admit but it still runs and plays better than any console.
I didn't. I use pc only to go on facebook, all the gaming is done on console.
It doesn't cost a fortune and runs fine.

PCs are always out of date, there are always new things coming out to say to a console is out out of date is to say the best pc is out of date since shit comes out every month or so, it really doesn't matter since developers can't just go wild and start making super high end games that only a couple of people who had the power to run it will buy.
So I might as well buy a 300 dollar console that can run almost all the middle to high end games, have some money for a few of those high end games and just fucking play, which is what gaming is all about.
I never quite understood why graphics are such a big deal to some people, crysis as a game is mediocre, I'd rather play system shock or MGS4 instead of counting pixels for things and details I won't even notice while playing.
And Halo 3 isn't even that graphics oriented, atleast get something from like killzone2 or something.

You've definitely got a point there. For me at least, enjoying a game isn't about enjoying the visuals. My head's not going to explode or anything if a game's not running at the highest possible resolution that it could. That said, I usually prefer PC because of content, at least as of a few years ago. Neverwinter Nights 2, Sins of a Solar Empire, games like those. Unfortunately, there haven't been many games to catch my attention like that on PC lately...
I need a PC anyways, I figured, I may as well spend an extra $200 on it so I can play kickass video games.
Also, mouse and keyboard is so much better for shooters, and if I want a controller, for any other games, I just plug in an Xbox 360 controller.
Mods and customization are some other big pluses.
they both have their ups and downs. i play the majority of my games on pc, but i also have an xbox because all my friends have one, and its fun to play with them
(This is a serious question)
What kind of downs do PCs have other than compatibility (People with bad specs), crashing, and not being able to play with as much real life friends as on consoles?
To all the console fags
If you want to play a good game, go to gamestop and pick up...
Garrys mod
WOW...
Wait shit, sorry forgot.
So how about you guys go try direct x eleve-
Fuck

Exactly! I saved over $90 buying $30 worth of games at Christmas.
That really aren't that great
You haven't seen or played many mods then. Mods can offer extra functionality like that Just Cause 2 multiplayer mod that's being worked on
The fact is most indie games are crap and only a few ever make it to be recognized, because they were in fact good.
World Of Goo, Minecraft, A reckless disregard for gravity, a ton of others. The PC gives Indie devs a place to release games where they don't need to go through publishers. All you need is web hosting and some other service to allow people to pay you. Both of those are pretty cheap.
Gamestop, Gamefly, Best Buy, shit like that
You missed the point, though I might have thrown you off. If I put Steam and XFire into it, you might understand. For example, if you use the Xbox, you're tied into Xbox Live. If you use the PS3, you're stuck with PSN. With a computer, you can choose any service.
Just like paying an insane amount for a graphics card to even warrant recording something of quality.
You already have the graphics card. If you're considering dropping somewhere in the $800 range for a computer, $100-150 for a graphics card is normal. I think an HD capture card is even more than that
-Able to bring some games with me on my netbook without dragging around a heavy console, TV and power source
DS, PSP, gameboy
Again, I might have confused you. I sort of inferred the SAME games, not every game on the PS3 has a PSP version. Not every game on the Wii has a DS version.
You mean 1080p HD being run at 60 fps and ultimately playing 300 dollars for a high quality platform for the whole experience?
It's upscaled. Very few games actually play at that resolution. Once again, if you're committed to gaming and feel like paying $800 for a computer, you'll drop in a $150 graphics card. These days, a $150 graphics card is pretty damned good
Consoles aren't for everyone, personally, I think if you're doing a lot of gaming and want a decent experience and getting your money's worth. Go for PC. If you want something easy to use, setup and purchase stuff for, I support you to go for an Xbox or a PS3.
I have consoles for exclusives.
1. Price vs Usability: I can do anything on a computer, but on a console it's mainly gaming, excluding a few crum web browsers. Games are $20-50, dlc is mostly free.
2. Expandability: I can upgrade anytime to a new graphics card + CPU and instantly be able to play newer games, consoles can't upgrade unless you mod them, and even then, most of the time that's just a bigger HD.
3. Mods: Counter-strike was originally a mod for Half-Life; Team Fortress for the Quake engine.
4. Developers are more lenient/open: There are SDKs for tons of games, as well as the ability to run your own servers, etc.
5. Key remapping
6. No pay-to-play full online model. I don't need to pay monthly for Steam.
7. I can program on it.
Grew up with it.
Also, mods and mostly free online play.
Simple question, why did you choose to pay more for pc over console?
I chose for this:
Mods
No publishing= more games
better quality and performance
i like mouse and keyboard
less 12 year olds screaming over mic
What? I chose to pay more for PC because I didn't want shitty hardware and also the Xbox 360 was only $400.
Why the fuck did you make this dumb thread? You ask us in the title why we chose PC over console, but most of us didn't, because we have both, then you ask us why we chose to pay more for a PC over console.
Grew up playing on a PC, not going to change.
I play most of the singleplayer games on my computer. I only have consoles (both xbox and ps3) cause my friends all have shit computers and will not play any games on the pc,
Versitility, power, mods, no extra for LIVE, plenty of games.[SP]*Snip*/ thought better of it[/SP]. I can play videogames while playing video games.
