Well, now that the game is out, and reading the mixed reviews, Im kind of hesitant to buy it. Anyone here recommend it? I don't want to waste $60 for a (possibly) bad game.
has any critic given it a good score? all i've seen is IGN's, i haven't seen any others, i'm not basing my decision solely on that but they do give relatively informed reviews
To my knowledge, Official Xbox Magazine gave it a 7/10, and GameInformer gave it a 6/10.

Depends how many friends you have, I think. If you've got plenty then it should be a pretty solid purchase, but if it's just you playing with bots it can apparently get frustrating quickly.
I saw someone mention that it was out and i was like YEAH then I remember
pc version delayed by 3 months
oohh
fuck off capcom
i thought about it...and i'm pretty much only going to buy it if one of my friends commits to buying it as well, a cross between L4D and SOCOM is what i've been hearing.
Out of all the reviews I've seen I think that Destructoid's is the most fair by far (http://www.destructoid.com/review-resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city-224121.phtml)

That is a good review. It points out the flaws, but the reviewer even said he enjoyed his time with the game. That's what makes this game good - despite it's obvious shortcomings, fun is still to be had :v:
PHEW. Everyone was talking about how Nemesis had a gatling gun instead of his signature rocket launcher. Thank god that was just BEFORE we ever see him in the games (RE3), and he gets his rocket launcher after you "save" him. I like how we're getting all this back story on the goings on behind the scenes of the Resident Evil games.
If I had a functioning console, I would so play this game.
Looks like I'm waiting a few months.
Look at it this way though, by the time I get it for the PC, hopefully the bugs will be gone.
I suck in versus. I'm good at zombie killing, not so much with other players though. mostly because the aiming feels a little off in this game

He does in the film. The films and the games are starting to cross each other to much for my liking.

Maybe I'll get it for a price drop. I'm not one to shell out $60 if I have to compromise to enjoy my game. :P
Wikipedia had a list of review scores. There's a few 3s, a few 4s, a 6 and I think a 7. Doesn't look too good.

Everything that happens in the game can't be considered as a backstory since the game has been officially declared non-canon since the very first reviews, which is a good thing since in my opinion the whole Wolfpack is absolutely ridiculous because of their aesthetics and way too advanced technology for the year 1998, and because of story raping stuff like Nemesis going rampant and platoons of U.S. Special Forces getting deployed into the city. The whole game is a huge "What if?"
Wow I'm really enjoying this.
I have nobody to play with though :(
If someone is willing to coop with me etc my gamer tag is LORD CHUZ.
Why the fuck do we have to buy Nemesis mode? I thought this shit was going to be free
This game is definitely an 8-8.5 in my book. I have to pay for nemesis mode? Oh well, at least the game is great by itself at launch. I don't need DLC for a while.
Fuck IGN.
IGNorance is bliss :v:
I think I'll wait for a price drop or some more patches before I consider giving this a pick-up. Reception's been more positive than I was initially led to believe.
Anyone else dislike heroes mode? I thought that would be my favorite but it's bullshit. It's a lot harder to kill players then the other game modes and you only get one life

Wait, is Heroes that gamemode where the VIP is given a shit load of health?
I'm guessing it usually ends with the two heroes wacking at each other with knives for 2 minutes. lol
yeah they completely ruined that gamemode. I hope they lower the amount of health a player has.
Reviewers have completely missed the point saying it hasn't got the resident evil "feel"
Well the tank controls bring that feel so it would be very hard to bring that back from a cover shooter.
Also I don't know if this guy is trolling or not but I felt awkward from everything he was saying.

That nigga needs to shut his dumb ass up.
That shit really wasn't funny and just seemed like some really awkward ass complaining.
"Lets see if I can blow up this control panel..nope. bad game" he even thought it was a first person shooter?

He thought it was an RTS at the same time and compared it to MW3.
Alright, so I got my copy yesterday and played Coop with my brother.
It was a huge amount of fun. I have yet to play online with people, but my brother and I just did a private match of the one where you race to the helicopter, except we both tried to survive rather than killing each other.
I found myself already starting to like the characters and wanting to know more about them, in particular Beltway.
With Beltway, I saw in the Trailer and a gameplay video that you can grab a zombie and put a grenade in its mouth and kick it away. Can you actually do that in the released version? I cant figure out how.

When you have a full ability meter, start melee-ing a zombie and press triangle/Y.

Awesome, thanks.
I've played every Resident Evil, and I think this game does have that RE atmosphere. It's a little Tacticool but when wasn't Umbrella?

The only problem with the tech is a few of the guns didnt exist like the MP7 and the 416.
Also whats the problem with US forces being deployed? Just because you dont see them in RE2 and 3 didnt mean they never happened.

My main problem with the tech is cloak and stuff like that, they're just way too advanced for the year 1998. Yes, we're talking about a game which has reanimated dead people and hideous mutants but the old Resident Evils were still believable. The story about viruses and bioweapons is not way too sci-fi. In the old games Umbrella also equipped their troops with 90's tech (UBCS with M4 and USS with MP5) and the only high-tech weapon that I can remember from them was an enormous railgun machinery from the Resident Evil 3 Dead Factory.
The real story about U.S. Forces is basically that the U.S. sent only a couple of Delta Force teams into the city but they were all wiped out by Umbrella's bioweapons as schemed and after that the government decided to halt all military operations in the area and just quarantine the whole Raccoon City (RE2/RE3/Outbreak).
Resident Evil wiki is also a good place to find out about background info, this article is for example about the US forces: http://residentevil.wikia.com/US_Special_Forces
Wait this got delayed for PC? When did this happen?
