The books are fine to me, save the the one with Rebecca going to some lost cove.
But book 0, 1, 3, and 5, and 6 follow the story.
Book 0 for RE Zero. Book 1, for Resident Evil. Book 3 for RE: 2. Book 5 for RE:3. And Book 6 for RE: Code Veronica.
And they are a good read if you like the theme and got time to spare. Its basically the game in more detail and book form. But there are a some differences from the game and book. But they follow each other a lot better than the movies. They both get to the same point.
As for talentless hacks, I reserve that name for those that wrote the movie scripts.
The wiki doesn't really give me the whole plot, just a summary, I rather read the whole plot/storyline and I do not like watching lets play/walkthroughs.

basically your team meets up with HUNK in an underground Umbrella research facility, so HUNK and his team can get the G-Virus from William Birkin. this works out about as well as you'd expect and of course there's now zombies all over Racoon City. Umbrella command sends you to the town hall to destrony some evidence where you encounter a load of US Special Forces guys, who naturally try to kill your super-evil cyberpunky ass.
after fighting through the Special Forces guys you run into Nicholai, a UBCS dude, but you part ways shortly after and continue looking for the evidence. however, before finding the server the evidence is on, you discover from a security camera that Nicholai betrayed his fellow UBCS mercs and fed them to the zombies. at this point, you're given a choice; destroy the evidence, and any chance of Nicholai paying for his crimes along with it, or defy your commanders and leave the evidence for Special Forces to find.
I'm afraid that's as far as I've gotten, but I'll fill you in on the rest once I beat it.
