Do not buy this, volition fucked this game up by not giving pc users a map editor. I already contacted the steam support for a refund.
How do you know that? The game's not even out till like the 15th of next month?
Do not buy this, volition fucked this game up by not giving pc users a map editor. Face it, the average user buys to have fun, and you bought it to have fun aswell I suspect..
How do you know that? The game's not even out till like the 15th of next month?
It was asked in a dev interview I think.
Oh. What's the big deal? It doesn't affect you if you stay the fuck away.
Oh what the fu- Mocking my name are ye? Also i think making maps would be a huge pain in the ass since you would have to get the building NOT to fall upon putting it in game. Which if i remember Volition said they had a lot of trouble with that.

They're asking for a fucked up piece of shit.
That's 3dsmax :downs:
I know that, and? I often do a rough model of a map I'm making in 3dsmax first, this would remove the middle step.:downs: And since it's a plugin module, it's even better than a seperate program.:engleft:
Yeah sorry to burst your bubble but that's 3dsmax. 3dsmax isn't exactly simple. plus it costs like $2000 or whatever, you can't expect them to release it with a £30 game. I suppose just asking them to release the plugin is reasonable though.
Too bad it is P2P. Cheating like in gta4 can appear
Yeah sorry to burst your bubble but that's 3dsmax. 3dsmax isn't exactly simple. plus it costs like $2000 or whatever, you can't expect them to release it with a £30 game. Wait, so theoretically, one could still create maps with 3ds max and import them into RF:G?
Wait, so theoretically, one could still create maps with 3ds max and import them into RF:G?
Yep. BUT they wouldn't be able to be destroyed due to not having the strength values from the plugin.
Look one post up, I'm a graphics designer so I have 3dsmax, and so does pretty much every serious mapper I know.
Exactly, there would be no point just releasing the plugin with the game because not everyone who got it would have 3dsmax. It would make much more sense making it available from their website or something, that way the serious mappers, such as yourself, can access map making facilities, and it wouldn't confuse people by saying "Map editor included!" on the game's box. I'm not saying they shouldn't release the map editor plugin module, I'm just saying that it would be stupid to release it with the game, and confuse fans by saying there's a map editor when infact it requires a very expensive program to run the "map editor" In the interview you posted they said there's no editor shipping with the game so that doesn't mean it won't be released at some point, I'm sure if all the people who wanted to make maps and had 3dsmax (me included) asked for the map making plugin, then it could very well be released. The point is, it doesn't matter if you have 3dsmax, to ship the game with modtools that require 3dsmax would make no sense. [editline]01:42AM[/editline] Plus how can they release a map editor, when 3dsmax is essentially the map editor?

Also just look at TF2 on the console and then on the pc version, custom maps makes a HUGE difference in the popularity of a game.
I suppose so, I was looking at it from more a logical point of view rather than a moneymaking one.
I suppose so, I was looking at it from more a logical point of view rather than a moneymaking one.
Sadly, they just want to make a quick buck and not spend it on making a proper map editor or finding a way to release the plugin without making people without 3DSMax whine. Valve on the other hand listens to the community, even chooses a few community maps to port to the consoles so they will at least get a FEW custom maps, and they even put in a var for surfing post release because a few people asked for it. Volition is known to not care about the community, just look at the SR2 port, though they released a "fix" later, it didn't do shit for most of the community, me included.
So, someone couldn't look at the game's coding and find out the strength values(format, whatever) I don't know much about this, so I'm probably making an idiot of myself.
So, someone couldn't look at the game's coding and find out the strength values(format, whatever) I don't know much about this, so I'm probably making an idiot of myself.
You could probably add it with notepad++, but would probably take a long time since each object of the building would need it, and they're not all made of the same object, like you don't want glass behave like concrete, and it would be hard to know what object is what, and a map would have thousands of objects.
Do not buy this, volition fucked this game up by not giving pc users a map editor. I already contacted the steam support for a refund.
A little over-reacting I see. I wouldn't be surprised if they created a proper standalone editor once they see how many users actually BUY the PC version. From what I can tell, all you're able to create is items in 3DsMax, and not the actual "maps". I'm sure they'll release one at a later date.

I think making the entire landscape, including the ground, as a model seems a little inefficient to me.
I think making the entire landscape, including the ground, as a model seems a little inefficient to me.
That's where the plugin comes in. Alot of games do this, especially console games.
I still hold my ground on the claim that they will most likely make a more user friendly standalone editor. Don't get me wrong, 3dsmax isn't THAT difficult to use, but they'll probably let the average user be able to make simple things, without having to pay a huge price tag.

Stop assuming stupid crap.

The AI on this game is hilarious. I had to get some hostages to saftey. I climbed onto the roof of a nearby building and jet-packed my way in. I crashed though a window and untied the hostages. As we made out way downstairs we got ambushed. We where on the ground floor so I smashed a hole in the wall and ran to the get away vechile. The other guys went back upstairs. Fucked around. Came back down fucked around. One died and they backed themselves into a small room. To make it worse I kept having Guerillas join the fight and within no time at all gunships arrived and started blowing the fuck out of the building. "ENOUGH" I said as I ran back into the bulding to save to sorry bastards. They where back on the top floor with most of the stairs destoryed. I jet packed up and found the fuckers. told them to get their asses in gear and get moving. Then BOOM! A massive explosion shook the building. Everything went kinda silent. I started to walk towards the stares as the building creeked. Then I ran like fuck and the whole thing started shaking. I ran and ran as rubble came down on to me and the hostages. One drone came at us but a large rock fell on his head. Then the roof came crashing down as I jumped out a window and safely landed below. The other guys? Oh they stayed on the top floor running in circles like a bunch of retards. Also sometimes the difficulty can become too much. I had to defend some buildings from an attack. All the Guerillas ran inside and shat their pants as a couple of gunships blew one building into the other. It was pretty awesome climing the building as it got blown up though. I saw a guy shout "HELP OVER HERE" then an explosion erupted from the wall and he was gone with a man shaped hole on the other side. The games physics are fun, the graphics are.. well mainly red.. but pretty. The story is dancing in the background somewhere and the AI isn't really intelligent. Also the sudden spikes in difficulty can be infuriating but this game is addictive and fun. I find myself starting a battle only to have the shit blown out a building while I'm fighting in it.
Upgraded nano rifle would fuck that dropship up :clint:

"I'll make an exit here so we can get out without walking in front of the entire EDF army" "Nah we like to use the front door brb"
