I used to play this but everybody's so good that I feel that I will never get any better. Orkel's no help in confidence either. I will get back to it though since I want to have some fun.
This is coming from somebody that beat Elite Beat Agents on the hardest difficulty too.

I'm bad at this game, but I've been playing it alot recently. I play with the easy mod on, mostly because otherwise it's stupidly unforgiving.

It takes practise. Look at this, it's the very first time I managed to get an insane map through, after a hundred retries in 2008, just half a month after I first booted up Osu. I've kept the replay on youtube from sheer nostalgia and to remind me of the incredibly satisfying feeling after I got it through. Compared to the more recent replays posted above I sucked horrible ass back then, but with practise everyone can learn the game. So there's your confidence.

You'd eventually get better, Look, I may not be the best player but I can consider myself good, and besides the adrenaline you get from playing some beatmaps is p cool

Orkel uses a tablet, he claims it is better that way for him, I use a mouse but instead of using mouse buttons I use Z and X.

I use both actually, tablet and mouse. Tablet for serious play, mouse when I'm just playing for fun. I'm better with tablet, but I'm a nasty opponent with a mouse too.
By the way, I don't think Touhou is an anime.

There is 'good' music in the game too, but JPop is probably the most fun to play.

All of those plays and I get rank 25, which was pushed up to rank 29 already.
Used to play it, was the "Catch the beat" mode though.
Was ranked 50, then I stopped playing for like 2 months, was 200, played a bit, got back to 132, then I stopped playing for real.
Been playing this game quite a bit as well, really fun. Not too good at it though, I'd say 1/4 on the way to insane difficulty.
