Here's a picture of the current build of my version of Rogue Survivor, built in Scirra (yes I know it's using Rogue Survivor's graphics, I'm hoping to gain the permission to continually use them, but if he declines then I'm only using them as placeholders until I get all the code done, then I'll re-sprite everything): Already implemented features: Roguelike-like Movement (:v:) Field of Vision (working 90%, need to make objects block vision) Seen-areas fog Weapons (only the pistol is in at the moment) Skeletons wandering around, pathfinding, chasing player Simple health (Locational damage coming very soon, once I get an actual HUD going) Food bar/Food decreasing (1pts per turn) Sleep bar/Sleep decreasing (2pts per turn) Ground inventory bar (This has a single problem that I'm having trouble fixing) Inventory bar (working perfectly) Working on: Fixing that fucking ground inventory issue Features that I'm going to work on soon (in order): An actual HUD Locational damage Stats (All will begin at ten) Melee attacking Shooting weapons (as well as targeting enemies) Day/Night cycle Skills More sophisticated Zombie AI Civilians Civilian inventories Trading with civilians Sophisticated Civilian AI Leading other civilians (based on Leadership skill) Features that will be different from Rogue Survivor: LOTS and LOTS of weapons. Blood effects. Gore (decapitation/dismemberment/heads flying/blood going on environment) LOTS and LOTS of different types of clothes (which are randomized at game start) Possibility to pick up clothes and change into them (maybe) Grenades More skills A more advanced stats system, as well as (maybe?) more stats The ability to store items in a refrigerator, desks, and other objects More objects More sophisticated barricade system (There will still be the simple B barricade system, but more objects will be usable to barricade doors/windows/etc) Other stuff I will think of :v: You peoples' ideas Also, developer of Rogue Survivor, I need to ask your permission to use the sprites in Rogue Survivor for a non-commercial game that is much like your game, but different in many ways. I'm going to be making many other sprites for clothing, weapons, objects, and tiles, which I will give over to you as well if you want to use them (in the case of if I get permission).
Im hold up in a store right now since its like the 3rd time i got raided by gangsters in a CHAR office and lost my whole group, is there any way to kill military dudes to get their guns because im running low on medkits on about the 18th day
I'm having an issue. Numpad keys don't seem to work. I immediately went to the keypad for movement, then read the manual. It just does nothing. Anybody else have this issue or is there something I'm doing wrong? [editline]10:24PM[/editline] The other keyboard keys work perfectly fine. Just the keypad. [editline]10:25PM[/editline] Think I got a fix. Apparently my keypad numbers arent labeled numpad1-6, they are Home, up, pg up, right and so on. [editline]11:15PM[/editline] Is there any way to take something from a followers inventory? This fucking piece of shit is constantly taking wood planks RIGHT after i break furniter.
Managed to play this for two hours straight without dying :D I made myself a hideout/headquarters thing. Fucking leadership skill won't pop up, so I'm all alone, but the second it does I'm grabbing it pronto. The guy I recruit is gonna be fully outfitted with a pistol, shovel, hardened leather jacket and a fuckton of ammo. Here's a picture of my character, hideout and stats/etc.
You lucky fuck
You lucky fuck
:v: Now I got even more food (20+ army rations, 20+ groceries), more planks (50+), army rifle/pistol (not much ammo for them though), army vest, a companion with char armor, shotgun, pistol, ammo for both, he also has a shovel and 3 army rations. I have a pistol, shotgun, 50 pistol shells (incl. the loaded ammo), 25 shotgun shells (incl. the loaded ammo), army vest, shovel, 10 blue pills, and 3 planks. I'm currently heading a district over to try and find a gun shop :D This game is epic. Can't wait for 3.2.
Is there any way to take something from a followers inventory? This fucking piece of shit is constantly taking wood planks RIGHT after i break furniter.
I second this. Damn followers keep picking up useless stuff like green pills which they don't even eat instead of their weapon's ammo!
From now on I'm going to set their directives to take nothing and no trading because they are stupid fucks. And if they manage to do something stupid I'm revoking their eating and sleeping rights. [editline]10:07AM[/editline] Also I think the skills that are offered to you when you level up are relative to what you're doing, so I think the only way to get leadership is to have it as a starting skill.
I second this. Damn followers keep picking up useless stuff like green pills which they don't even eat instead of their weapon's ammo!
use the orders key then go to your follower's name and make sure he wont pick up items
How do I actually quit the game? Is the only way to exit the fucking program to die? [editline]10:22AM[/editline] Fucking hell followers stop following when you leave a district. I made a base and they fucking left when I went for weapons. I need a way to kill other survivors. This one person took a follower and Im gonna get him back. This game is fun but hard.
use the orders key then go to your follower's name and make sure he wont pick up items
I know that, but what I want is an option which allows me to open my followers inventory and switch/remove/add things. Hopefully it will be implemented in the future.
Grr. Zombified people are so hard. 4 shots with a crossbow and it doesnt even dent his health. Also, how do I get a fridge through a door?
Yeah, they're pretty rough in the beginning, however, after a couple of days and some improvements on either bows or firearms or melee (melee is freaking kickass btw), while having at least 1 follower, you can easily fend off 2-3 zombified people. Oh you have to destroy the door to get any kind of furniture through it.
FUCK I did NOT think about destroying the doors. I probably won't be able to rebuild them though, right? If not I could use mobile barriers. Can zombies move/destroy those too?
Looks awesome, downloading now :v: OH GOD WHAT. I've been running around mentally screaming for a while, but now I'm attempting to barricade a room containing me, a cop and Rob Robertson. They seem like pretty cool guys :D But God, this will be epic once I've figured out the basics. YAY I HAVE A FOLLOWER :D but Ol' Robertson keeps taking my groceries before I can reach 'em, the wiley rascal. Disregard that Rob got chased off by a skeleton which popped out, now I'm lonely :(
Whoa fucking bikers dude. They invaded my base. [editline]02:29PM[/editline]
Looks awesome, downloading now :v: OH GOD WHAT. Disregard that Rob got chased off by a skeleton which popped out, now I'm lonely :(
The first thing you do when you get a follower is set his directives to take nothing. Otherwise they will be complete dicks. I'm having a blast with this game. I have 3 followers(however they are stupid and refuse to use better weapons) in a barricaded room. Loads of food, 4 extra leather jackets, 3 extra bats, 40 extra pistol rounds, 10 extra shotgun rounds and an extra pistol. I'm going to expand the base soon hopefully. Is there a max level for followers? I also noticed that when they "leave" you they still follow orders. Which is good. I can go running for supplies without then lagging behind and dying or stealing shit from the base. [editline]02:44PM[/editline] Very much sadface. Game errored and crashed when I went to sleep. :(
I had a promising base once. Two rooms blocked off from each other with a refrigerator that acted as a movable wall. Two beds with plenty of food until one night I woke up to a scream. A neophyte broke in through the south and was attacking a civilian that I had trapped into the base with me. I had no choice but to abandon ship and run away. I caught up with a national guard unit and when I returned to my base a day later everything had been razed with only planks remaining.
FUCK I did NOT think about destroying the doors. I probably won't be able to rebuild them though, right? If not I could use mobile barriers. Can zombies move/destroy those too?
Yeah, anything you can move can be attacked. Destroying a door can be good because it lets you move beds and other furniture to other rooms but also bad because once its destroyed you become more vulnerable without the benefit of barricades.
I had a CHAR base for myself and 3 other survivors, 2 CHAR body armors, 2 heavy pistols with 24 or something ammo, 5 shotguns with full clip and 60+ ammo, 2 normal pistols with 80 ammo, lots of food and 3 beds which took almost an hour to get to my base. Then the bloody game crashed and I had forgot to save. And is the skill limit only 3? If it is, then they should at least increase Leadership because I require more followers!

I was hoping to create an army of survivors :( [editline]04:51PM[/editline] Also, one of my followers got leadership. Weird.
Yeah, survivors get leadership but doesn't use it if they're in your command. I've seen several people running around 2 and 2. You can't recruit survivors who are leaders of groups btw. Hopefully, there will be an increase in skill limit, or at least and option to choose what's the limit.
Oh god that'd be awesome. Recruiting a leader of a group of 3, and getting all those under him indirectly under your command through him.
Grr this game. Stupid stuff always happens. For some reason my follower decides that they cant go through the adjacent exit and then they run off when I try to get them back. And then windows. For some reason I can't barricade a broken window, break it any more, or move furniture in it's place.
How do your stuff in stores replenish

And moving furniture in it's place would just be weird, how would you fit a drawer through a window? You should be able to barricade a broken window though.
How do your stuff in stores replenish
It won't, at least not what i've noticed and I stayed in a store for over a week once. You have to look around in your district for army supplies or for stuff that people drop when they die. Or you could just visit another district. Edit: Sweeeeet! Just looked at the fella who created this game's website. He will be improving the civilian AI so that it secures doors and barricades! Wohooo
Sigh, another crash. Thank god for gangsters. They carry so much shit I got loads of medical supplies and rations/groceries. So many pistols I don't know what to do with it and a lot of armor and melee weapons. I think that you would be able to get guards for a base plus the three followers, because when you leave a follower they still follow orders and directives. So set them to guard/patrol and then leave them.

Maybe you could try recruiting people and release them in your base and close it shut when you leave.
Fuck what I said earlier. I was thinking that they would follow orders after you tell them to leave but shortley after I did they fucking took off. [editline]09:24PM[/editline] I really hope the maker raises the leadership skill limit alot more. I'd really like to have a full blown civilian base. Atleast 6-8 followers would be nice.
Finally got a game I could survive in for a bit, lets see where this goes...
This game is really fun.
Hell yes! Alpha 3.2 is out! http://roguesurvivor.blogspot.com/
